Roos Field Renovation

As I'm watching the KSU v SDSU, I got curious about their stadium. The Wikipedia page for the stadium has this little blurb:

Through a multimillion-dollar, multi-year sponsorship agreement with the Fifth Third Bank's Georgia regional office, KSU Stadium will become Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Renovations to expand the 8,300-seat stadium to accommodate over 10,000 seats will be made prior to the football team’s inaugural season.

I know this has been brought up before, but why has this not happened at Roos Field yet? If Kennesaw State can net a "multimillion dollar" deal for the naming rights of their stadium, why can't we? I'm sure MR wouldn't mind if it meant a little help for a reno.

Metro-Atlanta is 13x the size of metro-Spokane. Plus, Atlanta is the economic engine for the whole Southeastern United States. Can you name one major company based in Spokane that would have the available capital to fund $10mm for naming rights?

The only potential group I can see that 1) has the money, and 2) would see enough added benefit, would be Northern Quest Casino. They already one of the major contributors to Eastern athletics. If Eastern started some kind of Native American studies program they could sell it as a win-win to their tribal members.

Just a thought..

EWU already has a Native American (titled American Indian Studies) program along with it's own building on campus.

I don't know, Zips Stadium has a nice ring to it. We could call it "The Zip?"

The whole state of South Dakota has 869,000 people, https://www.google.com/search?q=south+dakota+population&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-1yet they recently opened this facility.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dana_J._Dykhouse_Stadium
North Dakota has total population of 647,000 people. City of Fargo built the Fargodome and leases game times to NDSU and uses it as a multi-purpose facility the rest of the year.
My little home town of Aberdeen South Dakota has a population of 25,000 people where Northern State University recently raised millions of dollars for sports facilities. https://www.northern.edu/master-plan
Things can and do get done when there is leadership present and actively involved. All creative ideas as to how to get to a fruitful end.

Agreed. That’s what’s hindering the expansion of Roos Field, LEADERSHIP. It’s simply not a priority. :coffee:

Mmmmm. I think that's no longer true. Let's give Lynn a shot with this one.

I didn’t say “don’t give her a shot”, I’m saying that’s the problem. I like action, when shovels get into the ground, then I’ll celebrate.

I was going to mention...yeah, they had one when I was there anyway.

These states and their FCS schools also aren’t competing against Power Five FBS schools for sponsor support.

Yeah, we also compete with the Seahawks.

In South Dakota, SDSU IS the big football team of the state. Thus, they get top level sponsorship from the state.

University of South Dakota would differ with you. Yes we compete with the Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings are very popular in the Dakotas.
FYI Washington has 7.4 million people

Shit, forgot about University of South Dakota. But still, they are on the same level for sponsorship, while we have 3 teams considered on tiers above us.

And Minnesota may be popular there, but the sponsorship never rests on a business from South Dakota.

I believe EWU is making a conscious effort to update Roos. Even though The Gateway project failed, it atleast made notion that the field is inadequate for the players and the fans experience. It’s very encouraging to hear they are giving this another go. It may not be as adventurous as the Gateway Project but atleast things are moving and being discussed. A national championship would put this thing in overdrive I believe, just like in 2010. They have added a new scoreboard, pressboxes, entry way, restrooms on top and game store. It’s great to see that the university is reaching out for feedback from its alumni/fans and selecting ALCS for the preliminary design to probably more conventional/realistic for everyone to enjoy. Go Eags

Except for the scoreboard (2012) and the stadium book store (2015?)

From Wikipedia:
In June 2012, it was announced that a state-of-the-art video scoreboard would be installed in time for the first home game of the 2012 season on September 29. The project will be financed by the EWU Foundation and will not include any taxpayer or non-designated donor dollars. The primary source of funding will come from advertising revenue generated from the scoreboards, which will also produce revenue for scholarships.

Nothing like a championship run to keep building momentum for renovating/expanding Roos. The players/coaching staff are doing their parts to put a quality product on the field. Hopefully this successful year fosters more monies into this effort!
