Roos Field Renovation

We are something like 8 years into the renovation of roos field thoughts and nothing has been done. Eastern's alumni and donor base isn't a cash cow so we need to just move forward knowing that. Fix the visiting side bleachers...

I'd love to see something bigger happen, but it feels like we are just spinning our wheels...Fix the bleachers on the visiting side which are embarrassing..

As far as the Chaves/Hickey discussion. I don't think we can pin the stadium project on either one as there are a lot more involved in that situation. I'd love to see some better scheduling and the AD has direct control over that...
Direct??? Only as far as what teams are available and willing.

Ageed. I think any team’s fanbase can be milked, but it takes the right product & the right salesman. Eastside bleachers removed and a 5k seat grandstand built its place, how much??

Generally aluminum grandstand style bleacher costs run about $200 to $250 per seat. So roughly $1.25 million.

I have to believe this is, along with some cosmetic upgrades, has to be the focus of attention. Improves that EYESORE of a visitor side and adds seats. This also puts 1.25 (let's say 1.5mill.) as a realistic attainable goal...sure hope so. All that other shit ain't gonna happen so put that goal on display and start going for it!!!

Ya, but I feel we tend to rollover when it comes to scheduling. 2011 USD and next year at Idaho are just a couple examples...

I've never been involved in the discussions/negotiations of scheduling so I can not say one way of the other. Were you privy to the South Dakota scheduling? Idaho? if not how can you form a judgement?
One thing I feel certain of is both Chaves and Lynn really care and are smart people so I trust they were doing the best they could for Eastern

Don't overlook the need for about fifty portable toilets, and easements for wheatfield parking lots. $22/ticket? Wait! Only $21/ticket; we can charge direct for the additional parking and a few shuttles.(Is "grandstand style bleacher" seat oximoronical?)

At the coaches tournament on Friday, Lynn gave a brief speech before the round. She assured the crowd that the stadium reno was going to happen and "is on the books." Take that how you will, but these were comments made to a large group of people in a very public place.

In my younger years, a looong time ago at an outdoor concert in Waubay South Dakota for the "boys" they hung a tarp on a chain link fence and had a half of a culvert sitting on the ground. A lot cheaper than renting porta potties

ODU tears down recently renovated Foreman Field ($24.8 million in 2009) and rebuilds now SB Ballard Stadium, ($67.5 million) a more modern 22,500 seat stadium. Seems like the university & their AD feel more comfortable securing private funding to support athletic staff, budgets etc AFTER the desired stadium gets built.
That’s a ton of progress and you’ve got to give ODU credit somewhere. Are these the correct steps a program should take? Eastern has sold out tons of games in the same span, Eastern could also adopt this Build Now/Raise Later ideal too.. right? EWU isn’t the first program that needed a stadium expansion.

“So we’re evaluating where our program stands financially within Conference USA...” (ex. salaries, travel & recruiting)

“...And the best way you can do that is to enhance their budget capacity through private funding, and that’s going to be our next big area of emphasis.”

The problem is EWU is bound by the WAC Codes that states they can't use public money to build non-academic facilities, this includes borrowing against it. Their only choice is to raise private money. Virginia's Administrative Code must allow for such a thing.
