If you are not good enough for the NCAAs and if you are not good enough for the NIT then you might be good enough for the CBI. What's the point? I would rather have the student athletes concentrating on their studies rather than some made up tournament that means nothing and designed for coaches and ADs that cannot accept the fact that their teams aren't good enough...
I am sure it means something to the Seniors who will extend their playing career a few games longer. They will probably be their last competitive basketball games they will ever play.
Don't you buy your way into the CIT? I agree, if you don't get into the NCAA, or the NIT, you should just go home. It sucks for the seniors, but oh well, buying into a tournament that no one cares about winning doesn't benefit anyone, and I am sure that the 30K it cost to buy in could go to a better cause for such a small school with no money to waste...
Um... Not really.
I was at UNC's second round CIT game a few years ago. Everyone was still out in full force, and that game probably had the best atmosphere for UNC game that I have seen in recent years. So to say that it means nothing to anybody is just idiotic.
I stand corrected, they do not pay to get into the tournament, but, do pay to host it. So, I am sure paying for the home court advantage doesn't possibly skew the results at all... Sounds legit to me... And while we are at it, tell me please, what does a championship in the CIT mean? You're the first place team out of all the teams that finished third or worse in their conference? Yeah, let's hang that one up for all to see... And just because you were at a game that you thought was fun, doesn't make the game any more valuable to anyone but you... Are you trying to say that since "Everyone was still out in full force" that the revenue for the team and school is worth the addition of the extra tournament? I still don't understand your argument for the point I made that this tournament means nothing other than just few more games for the team to play and get some of the younger guys in the mix against some mediocre competition. Valuable? Questionable... Fun and entertaining for simple minded people? I don't know, you are probably better equipped to answer that question than I am... So my comment about this tournament not meaning much may not be 100% accurate, I am sure it must mean something to someone, but idiotic?
You're more dense than I thought. I understand college sports is a business, its about making money, and winning games. What does winning the CIT mean? It would mean something to the kids. Something they could look back on ten years later and be proud. Is winning the CIT going to bring national attention to UNC or any school? Of course not. Is a waste of time for some? Sure. Is a feel good tournament? Yes. But not everything in college sports has to be about money. I don't see UNC playing for an NCAA title any time soon, so why not put them in a tournament where they could actually win a few games. Its also about created a good experience for these kids, and what's wrong with that? Because these kids love basketball, even more so at this level, and a lot of them probably wont see the light of day at the next level. For the one CIT game, it put over 2500 fans in the seats so it obviously meant something. But I guess they were all simple minded according to you and it doesn't matter.
There's a lot meaningless games in the NCAA tourney as well, you think the school, coaches and players would give that up because they were going to get blown out? Nope.
