I don't have a picture of it, but did anyone notice the slot machine handle on the side of the scoreboard?

I thought it was a cheesy touch, but not too noticeable, so not horrible.
The handle itself has a big red ball on the top of the handle with EWU logos over it so that's cool.

Overall though the scoreboard is great. I personally feel that it helped encourage the fans to respond to big 3rd downs and big moments (something our fans have had problems with in the past). Well done EWU Athletics. Well done!

Honestly, we still have the absolute worst, most uneducated fans in the country. During the 4th quarter, the student section was on their feet for defensive plays, but even during 3rd downs late in the game, almost the entire upper half of the grandstand was sitting down...knitting. :ohno:

I'm calling bulls$$t on that last statement... I was in the upper half of the grandstand and we stood and we cheered and we are every bit as hoarse as all the students. I'm getting a bit peeved about everyone complaining about how horrible fans we are ... Is there room for improvement, YES! But as recently as 5 years ago, we earned the scorn of other fans who supported their team by being crappy fans and letting them turn our stadium into their home away from home, but in case you didn't notice, the red/black greatly outnumbered the maroon yesterday and we didn't leave early when things were looking grim!

You guys have voice left? 8-)

I'm gonna have to side with calm. Although there were a good handful that stood up and got loud, the vast majority did not. I don't understand how our fanbase, a good portion of which are also Seahawks fans I would presume, doesn't know how to get loud. I'm pretty sure Kalm wasn't calling you or our fanbase horrible fans, but there is a lot left to be desired in regards to vocal fan support when the other team is on offense.

I'm not calling anyone on the board out. I assume most that post here bring it every game. I've personally seen Vic do back flips at games before and he has an injured lumbar region. ;)

Stamp collecting conventions, competitive bee keeping, Wii bowling leagues at the senior center, and funerals are reminiscent...that's all.

Here's my two cents...

First, the atmosphere and crowd was great in the 1st half. The crowd was into it, the stands were packed and it was a great game! At halftime, the crowd size shrunk as people care more about getting plowed out in the parking lot at halftime. (Mostly the students). The EWU fans died for the majority of the 2nd half until about 4 minutes to go in the game. At one point, we were asked to sit down, IN THE STUDENT SECTION!!!!!! I'm sick and tired of students being the lamest ones in the damn stands!

I'll admit, my confidence in winning that game was gone after Adams fumbled at mid field and I almost left, but I looked up to the sky, saw the full moon and said, "hey, weird things happen on full moons!" The rest is history! Overall, I'm pleased with the attendance, because there is no doubt in my mind there was more than 10+k at that game! They only counted 2,000 students! There was at least 3-4k.

Can't wait til next Saturday! GO EAGLES!!

In an earlier post I was on a rant about the size of the board. To be clear I was not pissed about whatever the size was going to be but what I felt was deception by someone else. I will stand corrected that is was not intentional but a misunderstand and I over reacted. Now that that is behind us. I am very impressed with the clearity of the screen view. I would gladly give up some size to have the outstanding definition on screen.
Are there NCAA rules as to when and what sound can be played during play? Are there restrictions as to the message on the board? I would like to see full screen of DE and FENCE at critical points in play. Maybe the score board can be used to "educate" and motivate our fans.

We need to get a real pro on that video board and fire up the kids !!! If someone can learn the ropes that could be the Eags 12th man !!!

Need to get a real pro on screen, with that, the education will come , along with noise and the entertainment !! Could become EWU's 12th man !!! Need someone with great imagination and Football knowledge !! Sure made the game more enjoyable able to see replays !!

Make no mistake about it, there were people leaving the upper stands on the pressbox side after Adams fumbled the ball in the 4th. I remember thinking "isn't it a little early to be leaving"? And it WASN'T students, or UM fans.

And anyway, I've got no problem with the student section - they are the ones making the majority of the noise. Folks just need to figure out when to be loud, and when not to be. In the 4th quarter on our second to last possession, I remember Adams signalling to the crowd to quiet down.

I think the scoreboard will help a lot with this. When the team has the ball on 3rd down, put "NOISE" on the board. When we have it, put "QUIET", or something to that effect. It ain't exactly rocket science, but to this day our fan base has never been able to figure that one out. :ohno:

In the defense of the students:

Although there were students leaving in the second half, there were FAR less leaving than I see on previous seasons. Usually 50% of the student crowd has left by the third quarter. I saw 20% at most leave the stands.

I mentioned this in a different topic but wanted to reiterate that the media department is doing a great job producing pieces to air on the board. In addition to the obvious highlight type, they had one titled "Getting to know Your Eagles" this past weekend that was hilarious! You know something is a classic when the stands spontaneously erupts in laughter and applause. The board has been a great addition to the gameday experience and I'm so pleased that the folks in charge have the imagination to do more than the typical fluff.

BTW, they are using the "Quiet, offense at work" message at appropriate times that appears to be getting through to even the most ill informed fans!

I agree the scoreboard has been awesome!

The only complaint I have is they do not replay any of the questionable calls or controversial plays. I'm not sure if they are afraid they are going to get the crowd booing, but I find it rather annoying to look to see the replay and the only thing on the board is the EWU logo.

I would still like to see DE and FENCE over and over on 3rd downs rather than "noise"
The player personalization was good last Saturday.

We are so used to a replay after almost every play on TV that we come to expect it at the game as well.

and that horrendous background image behind the eagle logo is terrible, it looks like the screen is ghosted or something, but i think it's supposed to be a picture of roos field. It'd be better if it was just black.

Here's the Get to Know your Eagle video that aired last weekend

Also, I've noticed when they do the "kiss cam," they show a whole section of the stadium. I'm sure it will get better in time, but whoever is at the controls of the board have some learning to do...

Anybody know who runs this thing? I would like to see the youtube videos for the 2010 season on the board as pre-game entertainment.
The fair weather fans that show up tomorrow would love... and so would I!
