Sears to Remain Head Coach

If this is indeed true, then I will be fine with it if he is allowed to hire his own staff, HAMMER HAS TO GO

i hve never heard of this site, i am not sure how reliable it is. i was just assuming we would start from scratch after all the john L nonsense. how many yrs will they sign him or is he not really staying?

If that is true, then why has there not been an anouncement from the University. There would certainly be no reason to not anounce something like that. I'm a bit shocked that something hasn't been said, one way or the other. I'm sure, behind closed doors, a lot has been said. Makes me think that they may have been negotiating with somebody. :wall:

Have to say, I'm disappointed with this news.

Agreed. There is an article on the Deseret News' website that documents Bovee's thoughts:

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/...appointing-year-brings-questions-for-WSU.html

I cannot help but feel like there is some sort of sympathetic attachment to Sears because he's been leading the program during a tough time. Rallying behind him and the team is outstanding and there is definitely something to be said for integrity and perseverance, however, the bottom line cannot be overlooked. An analogy I have is the situation with Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos last year. Tebow did a great job leading the team and squeaking out some victories, BUT, Elway & Co. knew that Tebow was not the answer for where the organization ultimately wants to be. They didn't settle with the popular choice- they parted ways and brought in the right guy. I feel like Weber is facing a similar situation here. Hopefully Bovee makes the right decision.

It's official. Sounds like there will be other coaching shake-ups, though. The Hammer haters might be in for a treat.

And the beat goes on...thought that sympathy would win out despite the glaring stats of this season and paying to see 3 home games ending with disappointment not just in the score, but the play calling, etc :twocents: . This looks official and my bet is that Sears hires a new DC, other staff remains, and hope lives eternal for next year. Not a bright, sunny outlook but I will always cheer and hope for the success of Wildcat football...just won't be paying next year to see same thing, until game results prove otherwise. Been through the disappointment too many long past seasons. Good Luck Wildcats & faithful fans.

I am very disappointed. Sears is a nice guy but he finished last. So if I understand this correctly, a 2 and 9 record is enough to get a contract extension? Mediocrity has returned to Weber football. :ohno:

Don't understand why he wasn't just hired prior to the season if he was going to be brought back after a terrible 2-9 season anyways.

Jody Sears' contract to coach #WeberState football expected to be a 3-year deal
I would have NO problem IF they would have opened up this job, accepted applications, did interviews and then IF Jody Sears still came out on top then I'd be fine with this. But they didn't because Bovee is a dumb a$$ :dunce: :wall: :wall: :wall:

While I want to agree with those who think Bovee should have interviewed others before deciding on Sears, I also believe it needed to be a definitive decision. If Bovee interviewed other candidates and then decided to stick with Sears, it would look like Sears got the job simply because Bovee couldn't find anyone better. As a result, Sears' credibility would take a serious hit and how could anyone feel strongly about a head coach who won by default? In my opinion, it was either 'keep him' or 'can him.' Shopping around first would have only added to the turmoil.

Now gotta go see how the grizz fans feel about our new OC.

One other thought after reading some of the WSU players reaction on Twitter. To the players that will leave because Sears was named the HC. Good riddance! you went 2-9 you clearly ain't as good as you think you are. :twocents:

Who knows.. I have mixed feelings about Sears, I think we all expected a better season with Hoke being a senior and a healed arm. Too many injuries, too many changes, too many close games where we were on the wrong side of the scoreboard.
