Sounds like Chapman is Headed your Way

I'm sure that he would be quite welcome to join us at WSU. From everything I have heard he is a great kid with a lot of potential. This would change our 2017 recruiting a lot. I hope these rumors are true. It would mean that we would be looking for the best guard we could find and all of the missionaries we can get.

This one is really interesting. Chapman was highly regarded out of high school, one of the top recruits in the country as I recall, and had played well the past two years. So he sits out one year and is a Jr in 2017 taking over for Hill at a 4. Man, we just got a lot better as some of these younger players continue to mature. He is a very athletic player...

You have to wonder what is going on at Utah. A few defections like what is happening on the hill usually have an undercurrent of some kind. Loved the way the Trib writer deflected criticism from the program by calling it "a national trend." Ha, must be a U grad. Something is going on...

Well it is a national trend -- what did the ESPN transfer site show, 700 kids transferring this year? But you also have to believe Coach K is not the easiest guy in the world to play for. In days gone by a lot of kids would have just sucked it up but not these days. If players don't get the playing time they want, or if they feel the slightest bit " disrespected," they're gone.

It would be sweet to get Chapman, but, let's not get ahead of ourselves. He isn't here yet. Regardless, it does look bright because LK specifically mentioned Weber.

“Last I heard, Brekkott is looking to get back to the Roy area,” Krystkowiak told hosts Sean O’Connell and Brian Swinney. “Weber (State) is one of the schools I released him to.”

“Family and some high school acquaintances were real important to him, and we went through some of the things that were high on his list. So there’s a chance he gets to Weber,” he said.

Yeah don't want to assume anything yet. But, hard to not get really excited about the possibility of two seasons of a Braxton-Chapman duo up front.

I think that Chapman is more a 3 than a 4. What I see is us having solid, big wings for the next several years. We would have several between 6'4'' and 6'8'', who can play inside and out. Quite frankly, that is an element that we have been lacking in recent years. It hurt us when we got to the dance. :coffee:

Part of the reason behind him transferring could be the fact that he doesn't want to play the 3. That's what every talking head expected next year, that he would start at the 3. No matter, I guarantee that LK didn't want to lose Chapman. He has a lot of upside and could have been a major factor behind the Utes continued success.

That would be an awesome get and the prospect sounds good. A Braxton/Chapman front court for two years sounds pretty sweet. He is a recruit (that never happened) in Weber's own backyard that had me a little uptight that Rahe's staff apparently never approached. Maybe all's well that ends well, though.

I wonder if the kid transferring from USU had an impact on this. Maybe that was going to cut into his minutes a bit more. Or, it could be just what was said in the press releases. :coffee:

If we do get him, and he is academically eligible, he can participate in practices and the summer session as well. We would be seeing him in June. The only question would be if we are able to get Darling in for the summer session.

Well...we have all been scratching our heads wondering whether or not the Cats would ever get involved in the annual transfer carousel. This is a pretty good answer that the Rahe is always looking. Chapman would have a major impact on our program and be a major player in the Sky. His chances of getting to the league could increase too. I think this is a perfect marriage and would be a great opportunity for all sides.

I agree. Chapman would be much more visible at WSU than at UU. At WSU he would be playing for championships. At UU he would be playing for something else. They are not PAC12 championship material and they are a long ways from any discussion of a NCAA championship. Sure, they are in a bigger pond, but that just makes many players more invisible. :coffee:

My feelings are that we have always been in the transfer market, but that it has always been less of an impact because of Randy's desire to build with youth, have stability in the program, get good citizens, get good students, and to get players who really want to be here. Over the past 10 years, I can remember only a small number of players that Randy has truly considered as D1 transfers. This potential transfer would seem to meet all of Randy's needs. I have a good feeling about this whole thing. It could turn out great for everyone involved. :coffee:
