Sounds like Chapman is Headed your Way

Saw this on BYU board:

"After Coach K blocked Chapman's in-state transfer options, Brekkott appealed to the NCAA asking for an exception based on the fact he has a child being raised in Utah and he really wants to stay local to be involved as a dad. The appeal was categorized as a three-day appeal and he should hear tomorrow. In talking with his former teammate it sounds like Brekkott doesn't know where he wants to be--just that he wants to be in Utah (whether it is in Logan or Provo). If he gets the appeal, is there any change BYU finds a place or if they are interested? He was recruited heavily and had club ties with Nixon."

Interesting...well, if true, that's proof that a local kid has absolutely no desire to play at Weber. Love how Weber gets stabbed in the back by locals. If he doesn't want to be here, I don't want him here.

No matter, you've gotta hand it to LK. He totally out dooshed Chapman. His appeal has little weight in the fact that his reasons for leaving was to be closer to Roy and LK released him to a school 10mins from Roy. Also, Utah has a H&H with USU, supposedly, coming up and that's a good reason for blocking a transfer and the vitriolic between the Y and U is palpable to the NCAA...that and BYU right now has 16 guys on scholarship with Mika returning. No space in the Inn Brekkott.

Oh Sweber, if this is fact then that is proof that Y fans are talking to Brekkott. Will, wouldn't that be categorized as a violation?

I'm sure that if Chapman wants to be a Wildcat, our Wildcats would welcome him to the family. However, if he is less than excited to be a Wildcat, then I think we would be less than excited to bring him in to the fold. I have heard of players saying 'OK, I guess I will sign with you', and our coaches telling them 'No Thanks'. I know that they only want players who want to be Wildcats. Anything else is just wasting everyone's time. :coffee:

He's not going to BYU, that's for sure. They have this thing in Provo called the Honor Code. But I do think he'd like to be able to consider USU without having to pay his own way for a year. That's the reason for the appeal I believe. He wants all options available to him.

The longer this goes on the more I think this kid is something of a head case.

I don't think that makes him a head case, he better choose correctly this time around...

Hey, I deleted that! But seriously, the kid just seems to have no direction. To be honest, I think he made a big mistake leaving Utah, and that's coming from a Weber fan.

Curious...I wonder what Coach Rahe would say about Chapman. During his initial recruitment two years ago, Weber didn't offer and really didn't show much interest in the kid. I don't know if Randy's opinion has really changed that much during the past couple of years. Who says that Randy wants him now? To be honest, I really don't think Chapman wants to come to Weber and is doing everything he can to give himself other options. LK called his bluff and an appeal isn't going to open up more options. LK released him to the school closest to where he claimed he wanted to be.

It's not really true that WSU didn't try to recruit Chapman. Our coaches tried to talk to the kid, but were stopped by his coaches and controllers. If you can't even talk to a prospect, you sure can't make any offers. Of course we wanted him. We couldn't even get through the door. Everyone here seems to think that you can just walk up to a prospect and start talking, you can not. It is never just the player. It's all about the people around him. :coffee:

My Brother-In-Law is somewhat close to him, having helped coached his comp teams, and that is not the story he relays from Chapman regarding WSU's recruiting efforts. :twocents:

That's because Chapman, himself, never got wind of our coaches inquiries. Our advances stopped at his HS and AAU coaches. He never heard about it. It stands to reason that he or his family would say something like that. They didn't see what was going on in the background. :wall:

So what are they doing this go around? Have they contacted Chapman, has he been up to play some rat ball with the team? I was out in Clinton at my daughters softball game and saw him playing pickup ball on those outdoor courts (hard to miss him he was a foot taller than anyone else). Come on Weber seal the deal.

For one thing, school is out, most of the team has left the area, and Randy has been out of town with Joel at the NBA draft combine. Randy is back now and the team will be back on campus at the end of May. Also, recruiting a transfer is quite different from recruiting a HS player. The speaking to requirements are governed differently by the NCAA. The players are older and are more in control of the whole process. Everything will happen in its due time. Chapman will be a Wildcat if he wants to be a Wildcat. It's not like some used car salesman is going to show up at his door and 'seal the deal.' :coffee:

When I read some of your posts Olds, I can't help but think of a T-Shirt I saw in an airport once that read "I make stuff up"

I really don't know why I even bother, sometimes. The level of ignorance on this forum is frightening.

Keep believing that the world is flat, that factories don't pollute (trees do), that the tooth fairy answers your prayers, and that Trump will make Merica' great again.

I guess its safe to say that Chapman is not coming to Weber. I'm pretty sure we would know by now. I wonder what the deal is? Anyone???? Bueler?????
