Spring Ball Updates

Two no-pad practices are in the books. How about some updates from the locals for those of us too far away to get to practices? It would be greatly appreciated! :thumb:

HannahO,
I was kind of late getting to the practice today. Once I got there, all lots were full, so I went back to my residence. There was a Wrestling going on on Campus in Reese Court. Vic

Was at practice today and noticed the O-Line with out a important player from last year... Chris Powers who was all american was on the sidelines most of practice with the exception of helping Coach Best out and conditioning with the team... Did his backup take his spot? is he being held out of practice for a reason? Just curious to see him not practicing... also Gabe Jackson the Left Tackle seemed to be doing the same thing... both of these 2 are seniors and are anchors on the O-line and team leaders... can anyone shed some light on this subject????

According to "relieable sources" due to the extended length of the season a "national championship" and extended practice time for that reason, Best was planning on using Chris and Gabe as practice examples in certain situations and limiting their spring practice time. Best is hoping for the 2's and 3's to get the majority of the reps this spring and plans to use Powers and Jackson on a limited basis. The time for Championships will be Summer strenght and conditioning workouts and I can tell you these to o-line guys will be leading the pack !! GOEAGS!

Hm, I had heard Gabriel Jackson might get the same things Tyler Jolly had gotten in the past; the white blood cells or plasma, cannot remember which injections in his knees. still not sure what is wrong with Powers though? hopefully everything is okay; gonna need him on the line, I do not think his back ups are ready yet!! Hope to see you all out there on Tuesday! go eagggs

This is the most likely procedure, if something is in fact going to be done. I haven't talked to Gabe about it, but I know it's a common thing for linemen. I myself had the procedure done twice in my career and it helped me immensely. Recovery is very quick and it is a good way to eliminate some pain without invasive surgery. Luckily, docs are putting guys under for the procedure now. For my first one I only got a local, and it felt like my knee was going to explode from all the pressure. I'll be in Cheney for the scrimmage on the 16th so I'll be able to give a report then. Go Eags!

I believe Powers and Jackson are receiving what is known as the "Matt Alfred" treatment. Matt is a crusty old vet from the 2000's that somehow or another was able to miss 4 out of 5 springs.

Wellllll, you are correct sir. That would be the spring of 04 where I broke my wrist and didn't learn about it until just before camp. Playing with the Megaman cast on was an adventure in pain. Fun Fact : Osteoarthritis at 26 is not all it's cracked up to be.

As the Dude would say, "I'll be there, man". The real question is, are both of you going to the Killin?

Eagles high on Bronson

...
When asked about Bronson’s running style, Baldwin compared it to that of Brown, a 5-9, 175-pounder, who started three games – including the Eagles’ 20-19 win over Delaware in the FCS title game – when Jones was injured last fall.

“Demitrius is carrying a little bit more weight,” Baldwin added, “but his style is such that he brings a little bit of everything. I wouldn’t label him as a certain type of back, because in just two days I’ve seen a lot off different things from him.

“I’ve seen a good burst when he’s getting out and getting to the edge; at 225 pounds he has good power behind him, and out of the backfield, he’s got good hands. He’s a great addition to our team.”

And no one agrees with that assessment more than quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, who transferred in from Southern Methodist last fall, won the starting job and spearheaded Eastern’s unlikely drive to a title.

“He and Mario are going to be a nice one-two punch,” Mitchell said. “I got to see one of Demitrius’ runs the other day where there was a hole that was, maybe, a foot wide. But he turned his body, jumped through it, juked a linebacker and took off down the sideline.

“And if he can do that on Day Two, not knowing the plays yet, what’s he going to be like when he learns where to run?”
