Spring Practice Begins...

apparently today. At least according to coaches Twitter account, they're practicing today. So, does that make the spring schedule on the website null?

Apparently the coaching staff wanted a couple of practices without a lot of observers....

from twitter, 24Mar2011 @ 10:00AM:

this afternoon we have spring practice #2. Another day of great competition and guys wanting to get better one day at a time....

Maybe I'll go again...last time the only folks there were the Dean of students and Faculty athletic rep, Mike Mills....and me of course ;-)

The "UNCFOOTBALL" Twitter is almost too positive. Just one time I want to see him post "Guys were lazy today and it pissed me off, gonna run them into the ground tomorrow."

scatterometry, are you a Bears fan or a Griz fan?? Just curious as I have seen your mug on e-griz in the past. Who is the real Eddie Munster??? :D

It will be interesting to see how the practices are different. Downing would always not participate during individuals and walk around, talk to fans, etc. I didn't like that. If Collins isn't coaching a specific position, he still needs to be involved. Help out the younger coaches, etc.

Monday (or was it Tuesday.. .I'm old) Coach Collins was working specifically with DB's .... Yeah, I sure liked Scott, but wasn't too hip on the all the shmoozin' he always did on the practice sidelines. Go push the team, like I do see Collins doing!!

(I'm a bears fan ; got a kid on the team. Don't remember posting on the Griz board, but could've been rubbin' it in a little with the awesome basketball season that just concluded  )

I'm glad your a Bears fan Eddie and cool that your son is on the team (football ? ). Without giving up your identity can you tell us his position?? Good luck on the upcoming season as things are looking up!! Anyone going to be at practice today???

I was out there today. Here's some observations:

First - the Big issue this spring is Jace Davis is academically ineligible for the spring. Although we have depth there, we need #25 on the field. Not good Bear fans.

Second - Practices are more up tempo

Third - the coaches are a LOT more vocal then the previous regime. Lots more instruction, more interaction.

That's about it. I didn't stay too long, but that's my brief update.

Anyone know of any departures or new transfers? The website roster hasn't been updated.

Bryce Schwindt and David Krausse dropped out of school because of grades. Not sure about any others.

That sucks, probably could've used both of them. It's even crazier for Schwindt though, considering all the hype around him.

Did anyone attend Saturdays practice? That was the first day in full pads.

I went Saturday. Seemed like a good practice. These coaches do not let any player get away with anything!
Run on the field, run off the field...oops, you walked, you get a talkin' to. I'm ok with all of this. There is some colorful language, but I wouldn't say it's at all excessive and I personally think it's great. Every one of these coaches expresses a passion I haven't seen on these practice fields before, and they're not afraid to let everyone know it. I noticed that coach Shay was the first to redress a player BUT ALSO the first to run down the field to tell a guy he did a GREAT job! As a <former> coach in a few kid sports, that is very important!! ...if you're gonna chew someone out, you also need to be the first one down the field with a loud congratulations! Very happy to see that.

Pads...they were hitting, and seemed to be happy to be doing so, but I don't have much to say as it was the first practice with pads.

Yeah, I just figured out Jace D is ineligible too. The bad thing is that, even if he were able to return in the fall, he's missed all this practice time, learning the offense...bummer.

I'm likin' what I'm seein'

No doubt. Tough love is important. That's the first thing I noticed about this staff. They're extremely vocal. You can hear them all. Coach Collins was out there during individuals working with DB's and even during team drills he was coaching technique, etc. I too like what I see. Bring on Lindenwood!!!

Ive been saying this ever since the new coaching staff has come on board. we are going to have a new attitude on the sidelines. Go Bears

Just playing with some passion and some urgency for once will make me happy! :thumb:

I'm going to predict there will be no more sleepwalking through games and then making excuses. We'll lose a few of course but I don't see it being acceptable and excused like it was before. Thank God.

UNC should have a good shot at a winning conference record next year. They have done good job of improving each year and they definitely have a lot of talent on the team.

We'll see how everything comes together with the new staff. I do think we have the talent though.
