This is the first time I can remember Weber starting out with a D1 home game since I have been a fan. Even with the performance last year, I feel that Weber will have a huge crowd of over 10k as long as the game is promoted properly on campus and in the community. Also, there is no other instate teams playing at the time, which should help. If we can win this game it will give us the confidence we need to have a successful season.

Steven F. Austin is good but we also have a lot of talent. They are picked 4th out of 8 teams in the southland conference. If we can just work a little harder then them and can be a bit more focused we can win this game. Hell, if we could just catch the damn ball we would have had a few more wins last year.

Hugely important game for the Cats. Gotta get the season started off right. I really don't know much about Steven F. Austin, I know they are a middle of the road Southland team. We all had McNeese coming in here last year and getting beat by the Cats. I hope Weber doesn't overlook SFA, but reality is that this game is a very winnable game, as is the McNeese St. game is at the end of September.

I will not be back to Utah until school starts but in years past I have seen billboards all over town and have heard radio commercials. The Weber banners downtown, that's called marketing. The various local resturants at the tale gates, that's called marketing. Football Fridays, that's also called marketing. The athletic department has done a good job marketing the program. Of course they can always do more but they deserve a lot of credit and it has show in attendance numbers. Weber has had several games with over 10k in recent history. Now let's keep it going with a huge student section to help will the team to victory against SFA!
 
Weber has actually done a lot to make the games more entertaining, the fireworks during introductions are awesome, I'm loving the purple smoke out of the gian helmet. We just need to get fans to the games, especially students, there is no reason we shouldnt get a crapload of students to a game. A great loud crowd does a lot for a team, just look at Montana
 
Yes I understand what marketing is. Sorry I was talking individual games with times and what the special ticket promotions are or halftime performances are. That I rarely see especially on campus except those fold up signs and I have never seen those in the community. I'm still a student and I have gotten a couple emails about the CBI tourney last year and the america first game but that is about all that i can recall. I'm just saying there is so much more that could be done. Even simple things like a giant card board sign that says when the game is. stuff like that. Yes they do do and excellent job at promoting the school itself. I do like all that the school and ogden has done. Its nice to know weber state does exist is ogden and that the town is finally recognizing that.

It doesn't take much to get the information out to students, yet, nobody does it. Pretty sad if you ask me. There is a banner of Dame on the bell tower, which is totally awesome, but why can't athletics make a banner of our schedules and put them on the tower or on the wall of the Social Science, Union, or Science building?

Even if Athletics can do more, really it is WSUSA and SAA who are responsible for disseminating information out to students. Besides, who wouldn't want to be out meeting students? Last years groups of WSUSA and SAA were a complete bust. PATHETIC at best. As a student you should be getting pissed that you are paying for their scholarships to sit around and do nothing.

Although the Athletics Department has dramatically increased their efforts during the past few years, don't give too much credit. Those Damian Lillard banners you see all around campus were actually organized by a different office on campus. However, you're right. It's the student organizations that really need to step up their game. :kisswink:
 
Greetings from Nacogdoches, TX!

Looking forward to what seems to be a good game this weekend. Both teams coming off of "let-down" seasons looking to get back to their winning ways. I saw someone post that StePHen F. Austin was a middle of the road southland team, just wanted to say that if your team goes into this game thinking that it's going to be a looong game for them. Things to expect from the SFA football is a very fast paced offense. Since 2009 the offense has ranked in the top FCS top 10, leading the FCS in 09 and 10 in passing offense. Along with that passing game comes a underrated running game lead by Gus Johnson who ran for over 900 yards and 14 TDS. Lots of speed on both sides of the ball, and one of the best offensive lines in the country. The o-line has given up a total of 15 sacks in the past 2 seasons. The defensive line is a strong group as well, the secondary and LB's are probably the weakest part of the D so far. I know after talking a big game you have to wonder why we only 5 games last year. Brady Attaway, the starting QB, is very prone to turning the ball over. A LOT! Throwing 42 int's in the 2 years that he has been a starter. This worries me in this game, especially because you guys are purple just like us :lol:

Hope this gives you guys some insight about a team that none of you have seen yet, but hopefully will get a chance to see for many years to come.

BTW what a great football stadium too....
 
Howdy There SFAJacks!! This is going to be a great game. Of course I want to see my team win the battle on Saturday, but afterward, I only want the best for SFA for the rest of the season. Story that goes along with the Depth Chart. Ryan Love, our new beat writer for the Des News, missed a couple of things, like the team being 2-9 since Mac's departure, not 7-16. Unless he has seen the future and Weber goes 5-7 this year. All in all, not a bad article. The Cats are deep at WR and RB and our LBs are solid. My biggest concern is the depth of the OL, but the starters should be fine.

ABOUT STEPHEN F. AUSTIN
Stephen F. Austin University is an FCS school located in Nacogdoches, Texas. The Lumberjacks are members of the Southland Conference and were picked to finish fifth in the standings in this year’s preseason coaches poll. Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas, McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana were ranked ahead of Stephen F. Austin in the polls.
The Lumberjacks are coming off a 5-6 record in 2012, their first losing season in four years. Last season’s schedule included a 43-35 loss at third ranked Montana State. They are facing the Bobcats at home this season on Sept. 21. Over the past four seasons the ‘Jacks are 30-17 overall. They advanced to the FCS playoff and captured a conference title in 2009 and 2010.
In 2012 the Lumberjacks finished second in the nation in passing offense at 385.5 yards per game and were second in total offense at 503.1 per game. The ‘Jacks have been ranked among the nation’s top six in passing in each of the past five seasons, with two passing national titles. SFA has ranked among the nation’s top 10 in total offense each of the past four seasons.
SFA returns 49 lettermen off last year’s squad that finished 4-3 and in a tie for fourth place in the Southland Conference. A total of six Lumberjacks were named to the Southland Preseason All-Conference team. Running back Gus Johnson, wide receiver D.J. Ward and defensive lineman Darren Robinson were all named to the preseason First Team. Robinson was also named as a Preseason All-American and was tabbed as the Phil Steele Preseason Southland Defensive Player of the Year. Michael Brooks, Caleb Nelson and Andrew Ratliff were all named to the preseason All-Conference Second Team. Senior quarterback Brady Attaway also received preseason honors and was named to the College Football Performance Award watch list. Attaway was sixth in the nation in total offense last season.

This game is stacking up to be an offensive show. Maybe not one of the basketball scores that we have seen in the past, but high scoring non the less. A key for us will be if we can keep our O on the field for sustained drives and if our D can slow them down or turn them over. I don't think we can stop an attack like SFA's, but on the other hand, I don't think they can stop ours. This game may well come down to turnovers and penalties. I like the game being played at our home in the mountains. The surroundings will be a little different than what they are used to. :coffee:

I was on ESPN looking at odds for this weekends games, and just for the heck of it, I looked up the top 25 FCS poll, and I noticed that at the very end of the receiving votes with 2 votes was Weber State.

At least someone out there believes in us :lol:
