The Big Sky Tournament 2017

Montana State choking the game away, had a nice large lead at the half but SUU leads by 2 with 4 minutes left. Game's not over by any stretch but its not hard to see that SUU has all the momentum.

This is definitely playing in Webers favor (SUU MSU starting double OT right now). Let's hope for 3 more OT's and an SUU win!

Now Triple overtime………..well at least whoever wins this game will be tired when we play them…..not that it'll make much of a difference.

What a game, SUU upsets the Bobcats 109-105 in triple overtime and gets their first ever Big Sky tourney win.

Gonna be battle for Utah in round 2.

Now Im going to bed

Wow. What a game for SUU. They played crappy D and still won in 3 overtimes. 109 - 105

SUU left Hall open for threes time after time and he was hitting them until the third overtime, when nobody could hit anything. They were all dead on their feet. The officials didn't even look fresh. The refs let them play, for the most part, but made calls when they had to. They also didn't shy away from making calls at the end of each period.

Best possible case for WSU. Both teams could hardly walk up the court in the final 2 minutes. A bit like running 15 miles. They will be a little stiff on Thursday.

I really hope the boys paid attention and took notes on this game last night because SUU is gonna come out on top of the world on Thursday, they'll be feeling a little tired but if they are given reason to believe they can beat us they will. SUU has nothing to lose and all the pressure is on us.

Cant look past these guys, I don't care if they did just win only their 6th total game of the season. They can beat us.

We can only hope. That game was just absurd.

Wow...I thought that SUU would push the Bobs, I never thought that they'd beat the Bobs. Epic game between the birds and Bobs! These teams put everything on the line and the birds ended up with the W in an 3OT Marathon. I do feel somewhat for the Bobs. They have been through so much the past few years and they seemed to be playing really well the last few weeks. However, The Carp (Fish) has his team headed in the right direction. MSU losses two seniors (Quinton Everett) but keep virtually everyone else (Hall 1st team All-Big Sky and Frey FOY), while adding former UVU and All-WAC Konner Frey and Southern Miss Transfer Keljin Blevin. To round out his incoming players the Carp is also bringing in 6-10 Luke Schultz and PG Isaac Bolton from Portland. The Carp's biggest weaknesses this season were defensive consistency and rebounding. No matter, with the fire power coming back, the Bobs could be one of the top teams in the Sky next season.

Okay...So, Onwuasor, behind 25 FT attempts, and his birds pulled off the biggest upset of the tourney so far. Onwuasor is definitely the motor driving SUU. He is currently averaging 23ppg and shooting .408 from the field and .299 from 3. He is an expert at getting to the free throw line. In the one game against Weber in early February he ended up with a game high 27. His game is all about driving to the basket. Against Weber he was 9-10 at the FT line. In other words, we are going to see the ubiquitous pick and roll offense teams have been using against us. With Onwuasor rolling off of screens. He isn't going to pass it. He is going to drive it 90% of the time. It would be really interesting to see if Randy plays the 1-3-1 or 2-3 zone a bit more in this game. Also, we definitely need Braxton to stay on the floor longer than when he did last time we played the birds. Weber will need to up its defensive strategy and play lock down D. Onwuasor is going to get his points. Weber has to make sure only Onwuasor gets his points and those he does get he has to earn every single one of them. SUU's defense is soft and slow. MSU shot a lot of open 3's and just didn't connect. If Weber is moving the ball well and passing expertly, then I don't see SUU putting up much resistance. However, SUU can score in bunches and are solid offensively. If the shots aren't falling, Weber is going to have to play lock down, stingy defense. Hell, they need to play that type of defense anyway.

SUU's D was very soft last night and they were when we last played them. However, they do rebound well and have the length and ability to block a few shots. They do leave shooters wide, wide, wide open on the outside. They are a good offensive team, but I wasn't overly impressed with MSU's D against them. As far as zoning them, they do have some good outside shooters, including one of their big kids. Knowing how much we play zone, I just don't expect to see it. What I do expect is a lot of switching and helping with Onwuasor.

At the end of last nights game, Onwuasor and the rest of the T-birds looked totally drained. They were laboring to walk up the floor. They put everything they had into that game. It is going to be interesting to see how they might recover, sleeping in a noisy, smoky hotel casino. They are young athletes and their bodies recover faster than any of ours would, but there is still a significant recovery when you push your body 40% farther than you usually do. The other significant issue is mental/emotional recovery. That is where the environment is not the most beneficial for them.

We should be fresh and ready to go. :coffee:

Okay lets hire 5 or 6 families in ReNO with small crazy children to occupy the rooms directly above the Tbirds. We will give the kiddies unlimited cotton candy and have them go crazy for the next 36 hours. Or we could just bring a portable PA system to Reno and have Rob Alexander blow into the microphone every time Onwuasor takes a foul shout. It worked pretty good when we played the Tbirds last month.

Last year, in Reno, the smoke and loud party noises kept me up until 3:00 AM. I was only on the 5th floor, so maybe if you were higher up in the tower it wouldn't be so bad. It took me two days to detox from the smoke.

TBirds will be tired, but they will be playing with house money. We can win if we execute our offense and play good defense. Can't overlook anyone in March.

We could also hire SATOG to call their room every 30 minutes with an obnoxious "awww, so close" message.

Can the the Big Sky really not afford a little nicer press conference set up? First of all nothing says Reno (IN 1985) like a turquoise table skirt. Can we get a bigger table? These guys are packed in tighter than Thanksgiving at Grandmas house. The backdrop is supposed to take the entire video frame. Nice to see Brian Jones back to looking like a slob during the conference tournament.
