The Big Sky Tournament 2017

Great game! We were not getting any of the close calls, and we just had to frown at Wiley to get called for a foul. Oh well, we won anyway. We played really well for 30 minutes. Maybe we can put a complete game together Saturday.

WSU 80-EWU 72

For all the grief he gets on this board at times, my game ball goes to the coach. Really well coached game!

THIS :+1:

Rahe did a great job again, This was a big win for our Cats. And it's gonna be Weber State vs North Dakota for all the marbles. Can anybody say…..3RD TIMES THE CHARM???

Also I'd like to ask all in favor of calling Harding "Jerrick "THE SPARK" Harding? say aye.

Wow, what a fun game to watch! Really impressed by the small line up. Harding picking Wiley's pocket was great. Liked Baker's passing and shooting. Good game plan coach Rahe. Good team win, Well executed.

Next game will be a tough one. Hope we can punch our ticket.

Randy Rahe AND his assistants flat out coached their asses off tonight. :twocents:

Well, honk my hooter! I didn't think the Cats had much of a chance and The Wizard, after sooo much grief from me and others, goes out and coaches one hell of a dandy game ending up with a W and a championship match with the sioux. Let's go Weber!!!! Bring home some more hardware and punch your ticket!

I eat my hat over my previous posts about Senglin. He has done a great job at the point, been the most intense and focused member of the team and put the team on his back and carried them. I now believe he will have a legit shot at the NBA because of his focus and intensity. In short, he wants it and is honed in on making a difference. In my opinion he has been the best player in this tournament. Done it all, defensively and offensively. If he finishes this season well and continues to show his talent against better competition I think he will have a shot at being drafted. Maybe even benefitting from Lillard in that regard.

 Good job, coaches & players on last night's win over EWU. Wildcats a championship team after all?!
Good Luck tonight...hope the game goes well; win, it's the Big Dance, but if you lose, an invite to another post season national tournament should happen. Getter Done !! :-D

old adage..tough to beat same team 3 times in one year...especially if the teams are pretty equal
UND has so many weapons. Can't let Seales come off the bench and go 8-12 like he did at the Dee.

Third game in three days. Prepare for something that looks like a couple of drunken sailors fighting. It won't be pretty but I like our chances.

A couple more comments about last night. Baker going to the basket the past two games has made a big difference in what he's able to do offensively. The same is somewhat true of Richardson who put the ball on the floor too.

Richardson -- I'll admit his sometimes his turnovers make me nuts -- but the kid plays fairly good defense despite claims he can't defend. He's really long for his size and moves his feet well. He gets in trouble because he's not that strong, or when he reaches. But he can usually beat players to their spots. Hard to compliment a guy when the player he guarded scores 32, but Richardson made Bliznyuk work hard, especially in the second half when he wasn't nearly as effective (and got to the line on several cheap calls). Despite the difficult defensive assignment Richardson had great energy last all through the game.

Let's go get one wildcats!!!

Last year Baker had his moments that I questioned his ability to even have a spot on the team. Too slow for wing and too small in paint. He flat out gets the job done and can shoot the rock. Its so easy to get caught up with length and athleticism (which obviously are undeniable and huge). But having a smart player that can shoot the ball is so valuable. Every rotation player has had a key moment or key shot this tournament. Been really fun to watch. Let's go get em tonight baby!!

For a freshman, heck I can't say that. Harding is way beyond a freshman. For a small guard to come in and disrupt defensively like he did just adds to what this kid offers. A little better from the outside and this kid is #one in the conference. I'm excited for next year already.

Regardless of the outcome of the game, I can't even begin to express how excited I am for the next three years of Harding. He has more potential than any guard I've seen in his first year since Dame.

Maybe more so, he's legit.

Named to the all-tournament team were Randy Onwuasor of Southern Utah, Victor Sanders of Idaho, Jake Wiley of Eastern Washington, Harding and Senglin of Weber State, Corey Baldwin of North Dakota and MVP Hooker.

This is a little late ... but one of the things that bothered me about the finish of the ND/WSU game was they made up 6 points in two possessions thanks to what I thought were very questionable "and one" calls. I would be tempted to say that those were calls that you don't make in the last minute of a championship game as both were softly contested defensively. You make up 6 points without hitting a 3?

Well, I no longer feel so bad thanks to the absolutely horrific officiating I've been forced to watch in the NCAA tourney. "And one" must be the new thing as it has been constant. Offensive player forcing contact and getting to the line after what seems like a barely contested shot.

Not sure I will complain much about Big Sky officials going forward as I've watched several games where the refs where so bad it was almost criminal. Oregon aggressively presses RI in the second half yesterday and gets called for a whole 5 fouls in the half. Meanwhile they go to the line 27 times to RI's 8 and pull out a 3 point win. Nike U looked liked they had bought off the refs it was so lopsided.

Ridiculous calls (or lack of calls -- how do you miss the Zags going through the basket for a block?) are kind of ruining this years tourney for me.
