The Big Sky Tournament 2017

Every time Sac makes a run Eastern Matches it and Sac goes cold, It's a game of runs but Eastern may have it now up 55-42 with 11:30 left.

Not a bad first half of play, Cats only up 6 though 44-38. Zach really needs to practice those free throws in the off season, he is 0-6 and visions of the BYU game are flashing through my head right now.

Senglin has hit 4-5 from three land and aside from that bad turnover at the end has played alright.

Lets close this one out Weber. Put SUU away in the second half.

Like what I see from Senglin in every area, especially defense. But Randy please, come up with a better play when holding for the last shot of the half or at the end of the game. Everyone knows that Senglin is gonna control the ball and not pass it to anyone. More often than not he gets turned over. Thats two in a row if you count the Montana State game. When is the last time Senglin passed or made a basket when Rahe puts the ball in his hands in this situation? I noticed tonight that every other player spread out stood completely still and just watched Senglin turn it over. There has got to be a better way! We're gonna need it if we are to win this tournament.

Way too soft on the defensive side. Gotta tighten things up.
And please, god, during the offseason, require Zack to make 100 free-throws before he's allowed to leave any practice.

Good win by the Cats tonight by 20 90-70. Zach started out 0-6 from the free line but finished with like 5 of last 6 made. Needs to be better against more solid competition. Got Eastern tomorrow and they will be very tough to beat, but it can be done.

Good job Cats and GO WEBER tomorrow.

You gotta hand it to SUU, they hung with us for quite a while. They fought hard all game long. Randy Onwuasor is one hell of a player and they have some other nice pieces to build on for next year.

I'll take a 90 - 70 tournament win any year. Next up EWU. We all know what they have. This should be a good game.

Good job cats..... overall I thought they played well but defensively they need to tighten things up. Hill needs to have a better game tomorrow. I'm glad Rahe went to his bench. Late in the season he had a tendency to stick with the starters and they would wear out. Tonight he didn't panic and used his bench which proved key. Well done Rahe.

The substitution patterns will be different against EWU. They don't present us with any good matchups for Dusty. Dallas will get more minutes. I hope we give Hill a little more help on Wiley. He is a load to try and stop. With Bliznak, You just have to stay between him and the basket and hope he doesn't get hot from 3.

Team ball...Weber got another W last night because they played as a team. Offensively the Cats made the extra pass and were patient with their sets. Most importantly everyone got involved. It was a fun game because everyone came to play and played well. I love it when Weber plays team defense and Randy uses his bench and rotates his players. Keeps the guys on the floor fresh and gives us more depth for tonight's game.

Eastern...we are quicker and better shooters than Eastern. Best way to beat the eagles is with great ball movement and speed. Attack the basket and get their bigs (bliznyuk and wiley) into foul trouble. We are desperately going to need Hill and Braxton to get a lot of mins tonight.

Olds, in the previous two meetings against the eagles, Baker averaged 23mins and 7pts. Personally, I think Randy should go with what is working right now. I personally doubt seeing Dallas a lot tonight unless Hill and Braxton are in foul trouble.

I agree Tal.... Baker is definitely undersized but he also creates matchup problems being a stretch 4. Rahe won't play Dallas significant minutes unless foul trouble hits(which is quite possible).

Im guessing most of you have followed Weber closer than I have the past number of years. I have been really following them the past two tears. Anyway, does Rahe ever press or mix in a zone defense? Seems man to man is his baby...

Since I have whined about never playing zones in past posts, let me.

Do we ever play zones? Nooooooooo!
Do we ever press? Noooooooo!

Honestly, I've seen a zone a couple of times this year -- for one or two possessions. We even played one last night, for one possession I think. Can't remember ever pressing much. Randy will have "I'm a Man2Man guy" written on his tombstone.

Good to have you here Ktown. I'm assuming you're from Kaysville, since I hear that referenced as K-town once and awhile.

Tal, I think Weber looked better last night because they were playing a team that is short handed in talent in a quantity that was needed. That can make a marginal team look really good! Lets see how we handle a team this evening that has more depth and talent. SUU's defenders just didn't have the ability to defend us strongly. Ain't hard to score against inferior competition. Lets hope they play up to the higher talent tonight.

Horrible start, great finish to the 1st half. tied at 34. Cats are playing relatively good defense, and have come on offensively from their bad start.

20 points off turnovers to EWU’s 3. THAT was the difference. Clutch performance from our guys tonight. They could have folded after Hill and Braxton got into foul trouble, but they clamped down defensively down the stretch. Well done, fellas!
