The Hornets Against That School Across the Causeway

aggiefan97 said:
Not sure where the impression "the Ags' strength of schedule is weak" came from. Davis played Montana, Cal Poly in the FCS and oh yeah, Fresno St. and Boise St. in the FBS. Yup, we scheduled S. Oregon and Winston Salem, but nobody faces a top team each week, not even in the big bad BSC. Davis has a top-5 SOS in all of FCS....something the Hornets can not say. SSU's SOS is not bad at all, but even with the supposed disparity between the GWFC and the BSC, Davis' is 15 spots higher than SSU.

In the past five years Davis has struggled in its transition from D-II to FCS, no doubt, but even with that, SSU has one once (ONE TIME) in a decade. SSU is on the upswing, Davis is getting its' feet wet, and you still have only one vcitory this millenium. Not to mention, Davis has a winning record this year in FCS, while SSU continues its trend of losing seasons year in and year out.

Its gonna be interesting on Saturday, but Aggies pull-out a close one on the road:

UCD - 41
SSU- 37

Why does it matter who you played and lost to? Tell me about the teams you played and beat...

UCD Wins
Western Oregon - DII win...
South Dakota - DII Transitioning to FCS
Winston-Salem State- Transitional (Back to DII) team
Portland State - Garbage team that Sac State dismantled on the road, you guys barely won
Cal Poly - Legit win, Though you played them at home and we lost to them on the road, it's been a long time since our week 2 loss
North Dakota - DII Transitioning to FCS

Frankly I'm not impressed...

Sac State Wins
Porland State - Big win on the road
Idaho State - If you want to play the comparitive opponent game, they lost to Montana on a last second field goal and also beat Portland State and we beat them by three TDs!
#21Northern Arizona - How many ranked teams did UCD beat this year?
Northern Colorado - Big Win on the road!
UC Davis... You're next...

Legit DI Wins: SAC (4) - UCD (1)

They must not teach Math over there at J Street Tech. You list "quality wins," and somehow your win over PSU counts as one, but ours does not?? That seems a tad inconsistent. If you want to argue that our win over PSU was a 4th Q comeback and yours was a pasting, I will accept that. But if you claim that you have to handily beat an opponent for it to be a quality win, you probably should take the UNC game off your count there.

If I put a list of your "quality wins" on the Anygivensaturday site and listed such stalwarts as Idaho St., UNC, and PSU, the FCS community would laugh for days. I don't care what ISU did to Montana, they are consistently one of the worst FCS teams in the nation. And if you are hanging your hat on PSU and UNC....wow, that explains that lack of success of your program. I will give you the NAU win...that was solid, but that is one, ONE quality win this year.

You can knock the Dakotas all you want and WSSU too, but if WSSU does not count as an FCS win because they are transitioning down, then the Dakotas have to count because they are transitioning up. You can not have it both ways. Either USD/UND are not FCS or WSSU is not, but they are clearly very different programs. Not to mention if you think that wins over ISU, PSU, and UNC are more quality than wins over UND, USD, and WSSU, they I can not argue anymore with you, because you clearly know nothing about FCS football. The Dakotas are top-40 programs, transitional or not, ISU, PSU, and UNC are barely top-100 (and ISU is not top-100).

So my "quality win" count (where quality wins mean a victory over a top-50 FCS program, transitional or not, which counts officially with the NCAA):

UCD - UND, USD, Cal Poly (3)
SSU - NAU (1)

The SOS is misleading. I think that the SOS must be figured by how many FBS teams you play, (davis 2 Hornets 1) If you look at the quality of FCS teams that the teams have played there is no comparison. The only ranked teams the aggies played was Montana and Poly . On the other hand the Hornets played Poly, Montana, Eastern Washington Weber State and Northern Arizona all ranked at the time. The rest of the Big Sky is far superior to the Great West. Right now Eastern Washington, Weber State, Montana State along with Montana are still in the hunt for a playoff berth. Look at the match ups between the BSC and the GWFC. We lost in SLO to Poly in the second game of the year, Poly has a decent team, they deserved to win but we really didn’t play that day. The aggies, champs of the GWFC beat the worst team in the BSC, Portland State by 3 points, lost big to Southern Utah who had previously lost to Northern Arizona. The davis people were all talking about Southern Utah being unbeatable at home yet Eastern Washington went to Utah last weekend and blew them out. South Dakota, a team that davis beat in overtime, lost to Montana State and Northern Colorado a team that is tied for last in the BSC. Even North Dakota the transitional team that davis beat for the championship lost to a NAIA team at home. This week Poly plays at Weber State where they will have a very tough time there. I feel that if the aggies or Poly were in the BSC they would end up in the lower tier of the conference this year.
Will the Hornets, 6th place in the BSC at 4-4 beat the aggies, champions of the GWFC? Yes!
Although our running backs are a little banged up I believe that we can run on davis behind our superior offensive line which will wear down the aggies especially in the latter part of the game and open up our passing game. I don’t believe that the aggies can run effectively against us and if they have to rely on the pass they will be in trouble. If we keep the pressure on Denham he tends to panic and make bad decisions under pressure.

You're not getting it. WSSU was transitioning up, but after this season they are going BACK down. The Dakotas are transition teams, meaning they are pretty much DII's until they get to their maximum schollies.

Sac handled PSU BETTER than the farm extension, Sac's win was convincing whereas the farm extension squeezed by.

The UNC game for Sac was a quality win because it was 1) a conference win agaisnt a DI program, and 2) because it was at their house.

How many ranked teams did the farm extension play? 1 FBS and 1 FCS. Sac played FIVE and won one of them. The farm extension lost both.

And if you think anyone cares what people think on AGS, you're crazy. It's full of east coast elitism and Montana homers.

I dont know what happened to the quote, so I've put my post in bold.

Well said Green Laser and Stung Alum. I think that pretty much ends any argument to this topic. The phaggies seem to hang their hat on a LOSS to Boise “we play one tough opponent a year” State. I’d only add that “the farm extension” played PSU when their starting QB Hubel was hurt…and they still squeaked by them even though he didn’t play. Also if South Dakota had a kicker, they would have beaten the phaggies as well. The USD kicker missed a couple short FG’s that was the difference. He also missed a PAT in OT which was the final nail in the coffin for the Coyotes.

As far as other forums go, championshipsubdivision.com is where it’s at. Completely uncensored anything goes atmosphere. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks on there too that provide good info on the more western conferences. It’s not so east cost biased as AGS.

Friends, the bottom line is this...

The tools across the Causeway are still butt-hurt over getting whipped on their brand new field last year by us and they're very afraid we're going to do the same at our house this year.

Scared of venturing into our parking lots...

Scared of losing to us for the second year in a row...

Scared a girl might talk to them if they leave their POS apartments/barns...

Geeeeeeeez, this is so lame.

Best of luck Saturday! I'll be cowering in the corner as the Mighty Mighty Hornets take the field against the most scared team in all of college football!

Check your own board. Your guys were the ones that brought up what a dangerous place the tailgates at Hornet Stadium are. You guys are all welcome to come over and have a good time. Relax nobody will hurt you, honest, now your football team thats a different story!

I would hope that the majority of your fans shared your attitude. The problem is that you guys have some real bad apples in the parking lot. You can say we have "thin skin" all you want. But the fact remains, when a family is walking through your parking lot (as was the case two years ago with my family), and there are a bunch of drunken morons shouting vulgarities at us because we are wearing Aggie shirts, it simply is not acceptable. Let me contrast this to the situation at Sochor Stadium last week. I had a very enjoyable time visiting with some fans from North Dakota, I even bought one of them a beer. It was a very festive atmosphere.

Have a safe, and fun day at the game Saturday.

It was a referrence to what has been said on your guys' board, it's nothing personal. There was a lot of talk, presumably from older people, about how they felt uncomfortable taking the walk through the tailgates.

If people werent being such girly men, no one would poke fun at them. :P

Children and tailgates don't mix, avoid them if you have children, especially at a college sporting event where you're sure to come across some drunk young people i.e. greeks.

And you can't say that stuff doesn't happen at Sochor, every place on the planet has "bad apples" as you say. You just notice the ones at Sac State more because your out of your element, it's unfair for you to have such a biased opinion. I can say the same thing happened to me last year in Davis, but I'd be just as biased as you.

Lighten up, avoid the tailgates if you have to, don't label everyone based on one experience.

Question: How many UC Davis students does it take to change a lightbulb?

Answer: Seventy-six. One to change the lightbulb, fifty to protest the lightbulb's right to not change, and twenty-five to hold a counter-protest.

A UC Davis football player was almost killed in a tragic horseback Riding accident. He fell from the horse and was nearly trampled to death. Luckily, the manager of the Wal-Mart came out and unplugged it in time!

Question: How do you get an Aggie cheerleader into your dorm room?

Answer: Grease her hips and push.

An Aggie and a Hornet were sentenced to the electric chair for a murder. The police told the Longhorn that if nothing happened he was free to go. He asked the Longhorn if he had any last words and the Hornet said no so he pushed the button. Nothing happened so he was free to go. Then the Aggie got into the chair and they told him if nothing happened then he was free to go. So they asked him if he had any last words and he said "it might help if you plug in the chair!"

Wear a Sac State shirt and you'll be fine.

You got along with the Dakota people because you are all pig farmers, or heifers. You could probably plop davis into either Dakota and besides the hippies and asians it would feel like home. Drive through fast food restaurants that can accommodate a John Deere abound.

Its a good thing it is being played during the day, vampires come out at night. Boo. If you are that afraid, just park in the parking structure and quickly whisk into the stadium, not far to walk and the police will be everywhere.

Obviously you have never been to a Texas/Oklahoma game.

BTW, I don't agree with profanity with children around or in general anytime, so I don't agree with what supposedly occured a few years ago. I think if you treated us with respect it would be all good.

Hornet Fans:

Seems like the Phellas on the Phaggy board are reading some propaganda on the game that they don't like...Below is the quote. I am over and out on this thread, and fly out tomorrow morning to the Bay Area. See you all in the parking lot! I'll be there about 9:00 am, with donuts for the coppers. I wish I could say I'll be the one selling the "My Daddy went to Davis.." t shirts, but I didn't have time to make any - and plus my mom will be at the game. :)

"I was just browsing the AGS forum and read the thread on the Big Sky predictions for this week. About 2/3 of the Griz fans are picking the Hornets to beat the Aggies by up to 2 TD's. I guess their narrow escape from Davis a couple of months ago did not leave them with much of an impression on them. We all know about the East Coast bias. This is known as the Big Sky bias."

GO HORNETS!

That's funny, but I refuse to read their propaganda any more. Just checked Championshp Subdivision's board and they're split on who's going to win, but consensus is that it'll be a helluva game!

GO HORNETS! Sting those Ags!

Way off topic but how is tailgating at Sac State? Are the cops strict? Will they check everyone's ID's if we are drinking? Do they check everyone walking into the gate?

For the most part, if you drink responsibly and don't act like you should be thrown in the slammer, then all is good. They don't check ID's from what I have observed over the years while I tailgate. Just be an adult and support your team and respect opponent fans and CSU Police will leave you alone.

OMG!!!! Don't screw-up tailgating for everyone f.....aggiefan11. If she isn't old enough to drink, then she will drive you home. Man-up! I thought you guys were protesting, anyways?

Get a flask or slim pint of your favorite beverage. Slip it into your cowboy boots, your an ag, I know you have a pair of cowboy boots, and all is fine. Get into the game, buy a big soda, mix and enjoy.

If your underage, all bets are off and be sure to be wearing an aggie shirt so that if you get caught, black eye on your school.

I've been to both venues where people were smoking pot, so I don't think a few drinks if done correctly will cause concern. Just be responsible.
