The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

WAC will disappear.

Nothing changing in FBS right now besides schools wanting to opt in or out of these NCAA settlements.

The ACC still fighting amongst themselves. They altered their media agreement, schools will get paid out more proportionately based on their Nielsen results. Going to make a haves and have nots.

None of this affects Sac St. Need an announced FBS move and/or Stadium update. Momentum is stagnant. Yes these things take time, but poor season has lead to a malaise. Hopefully more announcements soon.
Recruiting is speaking volumes in the interim.

Next news I anticipate will be from the NCAA for our request of 1 year transition to FBS Indy.

I believe that is what will be seen next steps?

It sure seems that way.

IDK what they’re selling these recruits on, but to attract so many 2-3 star kids and then to get the attention of some 4 star kids and even get a 5 star to visit?

I realize that Brennan Marion is an up and coming coach with a lot of connections — but still. Something else seems to be happening behind the scenes that is getting these kids attention.

Malaise from last season? Nah. The Marion hire followed by the highly touted portal and recruit class addressed that. I don't know any Hornet football fans that aren't excited about the on the field product for next season.

Agree that Dr. Wood needs to follow through on his announcements. Between the stadium, FBS ambition, conference home, and MBB HC hire; my guess is we see/hear news on the MBB HC before all else. Recently he's been pretty vocal on more of the stadium details so I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a whole lot of news on that front for a while.

Regarding the WAC, as sad as it is to finally see it go away I am glad their disintegration occurred before any potential ill fated move by us into that conference. Had UVU and GCU not left, it would have been a viable Oly sports home for us. I haven't read up on the bylaws of the BSC, but I think it would be entertaining to see us just pull FB out of the BSC (assuming FBS indy is the move) and make them boot us for everything else.

Coach Marion and his staff seem to really have their pulse on the trends and interests of the newer generation that is hitting the scene. They are extremely active on social media.

Marion one and done? He will be soon courted by any FBS school with a pulse to bring the attention. We had four years of Taylor, wonder how long Marion sticks?

A bigger question is where is the $$$$$ coming from? CPSLO is cutting sports and San Francisco State is eliminating too, big cuts to the CSU is causing another tidal wave of athletic elimination. WCSboard.com has all this categorized as smoke and mirrors by Sac.

When the hire became official, my hope was that Coach Marion would be here for at least 2 seasons. My expectation was never for 3 seasons or longer.

If he's as successful as we all hope, he will likely be poached by someone after season 1 or 2, unless we do go FBS and he was serious about caring about personal and situational fit more than anything else (and the challenge of building his own program and something new). I'm referring to his introductory press conference, where he was asked why he chose Sac State over, reportedly, more prestigious offers.

What would be the point of "smoke and mirrors" and putting in all the effort? Why even bother?

Furthermore, what makes WCSboard.com an authority on the situation?

I don't see the point of an insincere effort. That makes no sense. Perhaps their efforts will eventually fail, but to suggest that this isn't a good faith effort and that they are purposefully exaggerating and misleading everyone is silly talk IMO.

Agree, most of the darts are from Joser fans. They cant believe that their stagnant program is being surpassed by a newcomer CSU.

Id like to think all of this is positive for the school, but again facts are facts and not knowing funding sources makes you wonder where all of this has been for the past 40yrs?

Marion’s own slogan, “one good year can change your life” is self promotion directed at himself. If he has a bang year, he will be FBS HC bound this time next year.

Smoke and mirrors? Perhaps some are involved but what is for certain is a fee increase going towards athletics and athletic facilities that kicks in this fall. Dr. Wood doesn’t force those fee increases through if we weren’t going to make a serious effort at FBS. That fee increase is what makes this current attempt different than any previous "efforts" by his predecessors.

I glanced through the WSCboard and as expected it was full of uninformed folks spouting off about our situation. I haven’t delved too far into the “budget cuts” to bother finding out of it is real cuts or just decreases to planned spending increases, and to be honest, I don’t really care. Whether or not Dr. Wood carves out the funds to implement his agenda wrt athletics will be up to his discretion. He has talked a big game so let's see if he carries this all the way through. His legacy is completely in the balance and how he handles the various athletic situations currently at hand will determine if he goes down as the best ever President or a total clown.

I hope we don't have to cut sports, but if we do Dr. Wood can kill two birds with one stone by cutting all the T&F programs as that would also negate any need to construct/move the track facility. So long as football and baseball are kept (hoops is required for D1 membership) I couldn't care less which programs, if any, are axed.

Not sure why people are concerned about Coach Marion bailing after a stellar year or two. This is the current environment of D1 coaching in the major sports. I just hope we can replicate this level of success and notability with the pending MBB HC hire.

HC Marian has charisma! He knows how to recruit better than any that I’ve seen before.

Possibly if his teams deliver elite performances / championships and going FBS winning into a solid FBS conference he could become a coaching legend at SAC ST before some body offers him too much $$$ to leave.

Let’s Ride the Lighteming!!!!
