Thoughts on the game

I think it's fairly safe to say that Bo Levi is just on a completely different level right now than where he was at this point last season. I think it was fairly obvious to all in attendance who the best QB on the field was. What a great competitor and leader. Caught the post-game interview with BLM, what a respectful young man. Handled the loss with humility but confidence for the rest of the season. 473 yards and two TD's - the third best individual performance against Washington in Husky Stadium in their entire history as a program. How about the play of the O-Line and Receivers? Wow!!!! O-line handled them. UW got one sack. Our big receivers made the UW secondary look like little kids much of the afternoon. They had no answer for our big athletic receivers.

Defense - great game. We knew they were going to run the ball, that was a given. That was all they could do offensively; I was not impressed whatsoever with their 3 and 4 star recruits we've been hearing so much about. We gifted them a short field 3 times that led to scores. Otherwise, I am thinking this game might have been different if they had actually had to drive the field. Blitz was effective when we used it. We put Price on his butt three different times and it was obvious he was tentative. I had no issue with our defensive schemes. It was obvious our defense was better prepared for the game than theirs.

Special teams was probably the low point. Can't make those mental mistakes in a game like this. We will clean this up, no question about it.

Always tough to take a loss like that, but I am very confident that we are going to win many, many games this season. Couldn't be prouder of this team right now. They played their hearts out and damn near beat a team that no one gave them a chance to. Dominated the Huskies in every statistical category minus rushing yards.

Overall, couldn't be prouder. Time to brush this one off our shoulders and get to work for South Dakota. They had a good showing against Air Force and aren't going to be a gimme game.

Go Eags!

Pride and disappointment, are my two prevalent feelings, as are the feelings of most all Eagle fans I'm sure.
Random thoughts;
All any team can ask is to have the ball at the end of the game with an opportunity to win. Our coaching staff put our players in that position.
Our coaching staff out coached, out motivated, out prepared their counterparts on the opposite sideline.
Our players were better prepared both mentally and physically.
We lost yet our team is a winner, our program is a winner, our fans are winners.
Now we put this behind and go run the table.
See you in Frisco!

EWURanger, thoughtful, insightful comments as usual. I agree with everything you said. I think a lot more people now know what those of us who follow FCS football have known for several years now. Our top-tier programs are better than pretty much every Div. I program except the top thirty. Our teams play quality football, without all the recruitment violations, etc. that go along with the big programs. It's fun to watch and we wouldn't have it any other way. Montana had a chance to move up to Div. I and decided to stay in the Big Sky. God bless 'em, and God bless the Football Championship Subdivision! And Go EAGS!

Quit stealing my thoughts Ranger. :mrgreen:

Loved the pass to set up the run offense. The rushing component will only get better in-division.

If this defense plays like that all season, it's going to be tough to beat us. :notworthy:

You guys have a good, solid team and I hope you repeat this year.

That said, don't forget we played vanilla basic offense an defense the entire game, it's not like you got our best shot and we blew our wad with you. But your team will go far this year.

You continue to show the same ignorance you've shown from the day you showed up. Go back to Dawgman.com and stay there.

purplereign;
I find it hard to believe the Huskies didn't do everything they thought possible to maintain their last drive. At that point all they needed to do is get first down and the clock would have ran out. I doubt the coaching staff was thinking "lets be vanilla and conservative" at that point. The Huskies were on the verge of national attention... attention they did not want. Fact of the matter is at that point in the game the Eagles had your team frustrated and befuddled. We stopped you soundly on defense and drove 70 yds in less than 2 min. and lost on the last play. Being at the game it was obvious the Eagles were in control of both lines of scrimmage and our coaching staff had a better game plan and motivated the players better. You won, yes but the Eagles are the winners!

Sorry brother, but you're not getting away with that one. Washington may have come out the first few possessions using "vanilla schemes". But are you honestly going to sit there and try to tell us that UW went "vanilla" the entire game to not tip their hand for the more "difficult" games at the risk of losing in what could have been perhaps their biggest upset loss in the history of the program? That's just simply being dismissive of the talent on EWU's team and condescending in general.

With respect to UW, lets cut the BS and face the facts here. You were out-prepared, out-coached, and out-played by EWU. The ball literally bounced your way a couple of times and you got three short-fields for scores. What would have happened if you had been forced to actually drive the field repeatedly, something UW showed that they couldn't do on a consistent basis? EWU gifted you a win that you were very, very, lucky to escape with. If you can't realize that then you are just being a myopic homer in complete denial.

Come on UDub fans, I expected more from you! :thumb:

A vanilla QB and vanilla secondary require vanilla schemes. :coffee:

Congrats on your win though. Hope you guys improve. :thumb:

Been reading all over that UW went with this vanilla program so other more important upcoming games/teams wouldn't know what UW has planned. This is flawed. 1) They saw plenty of film on EWU to know what type of offense/defense we run...didn't really show them anything new(reason being is we don't want our conference teams to see our new improved offensive/defensive schemes, hah). 2) That means they weren't prepared thinking all they needed was a vanilla game to beat us(if true their coaching staff needs to be evaluated, big mistake). 3) They would not jeopordize their scheduled "C" game win as this game may be the one that gets them into a bowl game(need six wins and they may be cutting it very close). 4) They had to know EWU is known for coming back in games so even late in the game and ahead they failed to adjust(unless they weren't playing a vanilla game). 5) They had to know early they were going to be in a games especially by the end of the 1st qtr. when they weren't up by 20 pts, as they had hoped...yet made no changes. 6) Anyone else see the look on UW coaching staff/players faces throughout the game? Contrary to EWU's look of "having been there before" mentality.

Bo Levi Mitchell's 69 pass attempts were the most ever against UW. The previous high was 59 by BYU's Kevin Feterik in 1999
Mitchell's 473 yards were tied for third with Major Applewhite of Texas in the famous 2001 Holiday Bowl. The only ones to top that were Feterik's 500 yards in 1999 (a game that was the first for Rick Neuheisel as UW's coach) and the 510 of Arizona's Willie Tuitama in the Wildcats' comeback win in Seattle in 2007. It was just ahead of the 469 of Oregon State's Jonathan Smith in 1998.
uw is currently in last place(after this one game)on pass defense in the nation

I have to disagree with Dozy on this. I think this shows a whole new level of ignorance by the purple moron. It's one level of ignorance to compare the '09 Eags vs Cal to this game, it's quite another to watch an entire football game and have no idea what happened.

It was apparently the game plan to be "vanilla" and then just intercept a pass in the end zone to secure the win. Really? All part of a grand Husky scheme.

Game balls to Bo, Heard, TJ, and Gaylord.

At least for now, any questions about our CB's have been answered.

Looks like we may have come out of this pretty healthy. That's a good thing, because South Dakota will be lying in wait. No time for a let down.

I agree with your "disagree"!! Super-ignorance...

You should see the Husky board. Apparently, EWU is a Pop Warner team still, not worthy of the Huskies. Given that the Dawgs got "run" yesterday in almost all aspects of the game what does that make them then?? It's laughable how self-important and ignorant they are. I now see why Coug fans hate them...

This x100 :dead:

Call me names all you want, but the offense and defense did play vanilla schemes the whole game. That said, our lines struggled at times which both stalled drives and allowed Eagle drives to continue which in combination with our inexperienced youth all over the field, kept the game close. You guys have a good team, but you gave it your all and still came up short so making all these ridiculous claims of superiority are downright ludicrous.

Two special team blunders from totally dominating UW. Looks like you guys are picking up where you left off last year. Passing attack was fun to watch. Huskies didn't look good at all.

Got a few things to clean up on defense, but new corners looked solid. Renard was getting a good push all day and #99 looked like he has a bright future.

This old saying seems appropriate;
Never argue with an idiot, it just brings you down to his level and he will beat you with experience!!

All I read in that post were a bunch of contrived excuses. We committed 4 turnovers, and still had a good shot to win it at the end. We out-played UW, plain and simple. You're only embarrassing UW more than they already were on Saturday.

Congrats to the Eagles on a super game vs the Huskies. Looks like BLM is picking up where he left off against us only better and those towering receivers are awesome. Wish I could say the same for us as the Middies just gave us an old fashioned butt whooping plus knocked out our starting QB.We could run on them and move the ball through the air reasonably well but couldn't contain that triple option. Oh well back to the drawing board. Good luck for your season to some good fans and who knows perhaps we can still meet again.
