Time for Changes

Fellow mods I unlocked this thread. As heated as it has been there have been no threats of violence and some low level name calling. Plus we should see some staff changes so amongst all the barbs flying should be some actual news. Mods if you disagree with this please lock this thread again and I will not unlock it a second time.

Oh boy where to begin.

OSH you’re right, who needs pressers and administration transparency when we have you here to keep us informed.

Nice wager, but since you are the “in the know” guy and I’m still waiting for you to name the Hornet alums that are going to come in and save this program it’s pretty hard to take your wager seriously. And since there will be no presser on this 3-5 year extension that is suppose to come this winter, am I supposed to just take your word for it? :shake:

And did you really come here looking for someone with clout to end the Sperbeck era? You do realize what this place is right? IT’S A FAN MESSAGE BOARD where fans come to bitch and moan about the failures and give out high fives about the successes. What, you thought you might find Dr. Gonzo trolling Sac Buzz and figured you could convince him to send Wanless, Sperbeck, Parker, and whoever else you hate packing? You came here to troll; there is no way you actually thought people with sway visit this place. It’s clear you either are, are close to, or related to one of the coaches let go by Sperbeck and have a massive axe to grind. We get it, anyone who doesn’t agree with your view and agenda has “poor football IQ”.

Now on a serious note OSH, if you really want to bring about change coble together a group of fellow disgruntled Hornet FB alum and raise the cash to buy out Sperbeck’s contract. Money talks. Team up with that poster with the fund raiser website and put together a coherent approach for change. If you really are connected then you shouldn’t have an issue getting in touch with important people that feel the same way and who are willing to throw a couple shillings into the war chest. As a lowly season ticket holder, I’m not going to do much aside from stop renewing my season tickets and other athletic contributions and send in a few disgruntled emails. I have plenty of other things going on in life and as unhappy as I am with the direction of this program I don’t have the time or will to join you in your crusade. Also I am not sure I would be able to support something that may potentially be detrimental to our FB program but I guess it depends what the end game is. And for the love of God stop taking this scorched earth approach with those who don’t see it your way. That mentality gets you nowhere fast.

Ok I’ve said my peace, continue your flaming.

Spot on. If OSH was a key player he wouldn't need Sacbuzz to channel and organize his lynching mentality.

I do think Joe Davidson of the Bee reads this board though as his stories parallel many of the current topics we discuss.

I don't think this should be locked, there has been no blood shed and we are all grown-ups, at least I think so, and should be open for heated banter. It is good to see there are some people who are passionate about the program as much as we are and only want the best overall.

OSH, why not turn that frown upside down and stay and be a part of this community? Afterall, we are all alums of a great school and should be able to act civilized. We could use someone with your knowledge, seriously.

Steve Roberson was fired today. Sperbeck has already started to purge his staff in an effort to save himself.
But I'm sure you guys already knew had that info.

Im curious as to where this info came from? I'm hearing differently from reliable sources.

HornetStudent,

I'm with you on this one. I'm skeptical because usually HornetSports.com will be updated immediately when such decisions are made. Coach Roberson is still listed and I haven't seen anything from his account on twitter either...

We're finding that OldSchoolHornet isn't as "in the know" as he claims to be, so it wouldn't surprise me if this was bad info or that this decision is not final as of yet.

Yup. If his Twitter account is any indication, he's the the DB coach.

Been out of the loop for awhile...with son on IR all season and my own HS coaching, only made 3 games this season. So it is confirmed Coach Roberson was let go and Coach Parker moved to DB coach. Though there are some much needed changes I hate to see coach Roberson go...he was a good guy that seemed to relate well with all the players.

A few needs I am hoping gets addressed.

1 - Obvious one is D Coordinator with some D1 college experience
2 - Larger D Line, the small fast platoon thing results in big O-lines of the Big Sky pushing us around and running their offense at will.
3 - Large power short yardage back, I like our quick guys but we need a beast back their for pass protection and short yardage red zone needs.

Hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving and enjoy the rest of the upcoming holidays with family and friends.

Take care,
OG67

And yes son is all healed up now and should be able to go 100% for winter weights and spring...thanks for asking

Couldn't agree more with your assessment of Coach Roberson...definitely one of the good guys, a good football coach and sincerely cared about the players.

It’s reasonable to assume that Sperbeck was given a 3 year extension during or after the 2012 season. The Hornet article said the old contract ran through 2012. We know he did not coach this year without a contract so no extension or change at the top any time soon .

We all have our own opinions about what is best for our Hornets, and it’s fun to discuss them. I have a problem with posters that are limited to one topic and seem to have a personal axe to grind with the coach, administration even the coach’s father. We are hearing only one side of the story from a former coach or player friends or family that may for whatever reason may have been released by Sperbeck.

I disagree with OSH that Sperbeck is being overpaid for his position. His pay seems in line with the other California FCS coaches. Tim Walsh at Poly made $175,000 last year and he has been there several years less than Sperbeck. Ron Gould at the dungpile is said to make $230,000 with performance incentives for a coach with no previous head coaching experience.

What I would like to see is for some of money made in the FBS games used to increase the salary of at least the Coordinators so that we can recruit and retain quality coaches. If we had a little more to offer to make up for the increased COL in California we might be able to attract quality coaches from other regions.

My wish list for next season;

A new Defensive Coordinator with proven successful experience.
A new Special Teams Coach with proven successful experience

(At this level there is no reason to accept coaches that need on the job training.)

I would also like to see the BSC ADs and Presidents establish a system to review disputed calls. If you get beat playing the game that’s one thing To have bad or inconsistent calls decide games is not acceptable especially with the technology available to make it right.. I have been watching BSC officials since we joined, they have always been bad and what‘s worse inconsistent.. It seems even worse now that the stadiums have video boards so they can throw bad calls in the fan’s face with no recourse.

How about this guy? He's currently a JUCO HC, but has extensive defensive experience as coordinator and position coach at the FBS level. Apparently, he even has a tad of ST experience too.

We can't afford coach Kerr.

He is a JUCO head coach. I think Sac St can match or beat his current pay. Plus, It's my understanding that cost of living in the capital is a lot cheaper than Los Angeles.

Not sure how much a JC Head Coach makes but Anthony Parker made $78,613 in 2012. Seems like a lot for what we got out of it.
