Good to see you stop by OG. Glad to hear that about your son, also excellent points made in the rest of your post.

Larry Kerr made 200k+ at Colorado State as the DC. I bet he's making 100k+ in LA...

I doubt a JUCO HC makes 100K+. Even in L.A. Especially considering that the Los Angeles Community College District system, which L.A. Valley College pertains to, has been financially scrutinized. There have been various reports in the L.A. Times over the past few years about financial mismanagement. So LACC campuses had cut sport programs and become prudent in general due to that and the recession. Which brings me to my point, I doubt any LACC JUCO AD & Prez were going to pay a football HC 100K+

Also, before working at CSU, he work for Duke and UCLA. If you're correct and he made 200K+ at CSU, then he still must have taken a pay cut at some point. No way CSU would pay more than UCLA or Duke.

We've already blown it by going the juco route.

I think I'd rather go after Larry Kehres....

This is different. Sperbeck was a life long JUCO coach. Kerr has and extensive background at the highest level of college football. He's only been in the JUCO ranks a couple of years.

Just pointing out it is possible for a JC HC to make $100K+

Sort of like Jon Osterhout, then....

Just looked up who Larry Kehres is. No way he would come to Sac St. He has spent his entire coaching career at Mt. Union/Ohio. Were you joking?

To some degree, yes. It was a crack on the name.

That said, Kehres is a HOFer as soon as he retires; he'd be like Amos Alonzo Stagg when he left U of Chicago to go to Stockton. But you're right, he likely wouldn't do it.

Except that Kerr spent 31 years holding (except for brief stints at St Mary's and NAU) responsible positions (including coordinator) at major FBS schools. Aside from Sac State, Osterhout spent a couple of years at Nebraska as a Graduate Assistant. I think there is a little bit of difference in quality experience.

Word is out.

Sacramento State (FCS): Sources tell us defensive coordinator Anthony Parker and defensive backs coach Steve Roberson have been let go.

I thought Parker was moving to DB's. Guess the demotion was too much, don't blame him.

If true it may be for the best. The demotion might cause resentment toward the new DC or Coach Sperbeck. The program and coaching staff don't need that, it might be better to start with a clean slate.

I recall reading on the UNC board that their HC was only making $95,000. Apparently coaching salaries are not too high in Colorado.

Notice that northern Arizona, Montana and Southern Utah are all knocked out of the FCS playoffs on their first round games. And NAU and UM hosted. All teams that the Hornets lost to in a combined total of 7 points. SUU and UM by 3 , both in OT at Hornet Stadium and 1 point loss to NAU also at Hornet Stadium. We are so close to the top 20 but come up oh so short and off the FCS radar.

Eastern Washington is the only Big Sky school among the 4 who got in, still standing in the FCS playoffs. EWU is also a commuter school with a terrible stadium with a one ugly red field but seems to get it done.

Rumor has it that Baldwin will be interviewed for the Boise St job. In seven plus years at Sac St, has any FBS program inquired about Sperbeck? I assume no.

Another suggestion for DC. Kevin McGarry. He's currently an asst. coach at SDSU. Prior to SDSU, he was the HC/DC at Univ. of San Diego for two decades. DC from 1975 to 1995. HC from 1996 to 2003.
