Didn’t Geringer get hurt while he was here? I seem to recall he wasn’t always healthy. And regardless of how it ended up, turns out he would have been on the bench behind Safron anyways.
As far as Vercher goes I hope he sticks around but my guess is he bails, especially if Peterson goes elsewhere. If people are filling his head with ideas that he should be a starter now or that for whatever reason he feels he is getting the short end of the stick I think the chances of him bolting are high. He can play a year at JC then transfer anywhere he wants as a JR the following year. And I thought his redshirt was burned this year?

I've heard that Geringer left because Safron won the job in Spring '12, but also that he had an elbow injury. I'm not sure which is true...
A player had 5 years to play 4 years... Except for in special circumstances when a player could be granted a 6th year to play in part of a 5th season due to injury (see Stephen Sir at NAU, Jason White at OU, etc...). Most players will RS their first year on campus to learn and grow without using a year of eligibility. However Jihad's first year was wasted for 5 passes and some placeholding duties. He now has 4 years to play 3. SO, he could still RS or transfer without losing eligibility. I was suggesting that he should RS in 2014 and comeback in 2015 as RS Sophomore and likely have a great shot a being a 3-year starter (into 2017!). Some players never use a RS season. Jake Croxdale played as a true Freshman and never RS'd, playing 4 in 4 years.
