UNC vs WSU

Beardown, what you aren't seeing within all of this is that this program was allowed to wither from between Joe Glenn's last recruiting class until Downing took the job. Between the ill-advised scholarship "ramp up" implemented by Fallis and declining recruiting hauls, this program faltered.

Let me offer a way to put all of this into perspective: factor a coaching change + 5 years to judge what has occurred. Glenn's final recruiting class had players either graduate in 2004 or 2005, depending on if they redshirt or not. Successes in 2002 & 2003 came with teams mostly built on Glenn's recruiting classes. The wins declined from there.

When adding in the challenges in recruiting for a period of time that a team wouldn't compete for a meaningful championship, etc., this program was left to struggle.

I think Troy hit the nail on the head the talent just isn't there and I agree the Dalton regime did not seem to be able to go into living rooms and pull talent, that or they couldn't judge talent, both equally debilitating.

We have no horses, no studs, no game breakers, it's obvious to see, we never have a big play, we never come close even...

It's unfortunate for the current players because they seem like nice enough kids but they just don't have the talent to compete at this level.

ajwildcat, we did answer your question. Drinking beer and whining about football is all there is to do in Greeley.
Bearsradio, I'm going to assume that you meant that Dalton's lack of success was due to the fact that his teams were not allowed to compete for anything meaningful during his leadership, thereby hurting his recruiting chances. I still take issue with the whole idea that a tackle, or a receiver, or a running back, suddenly sucks because he wasn't recruited by the current staff. That excuse is old, and too often used by people that can't admit that they made a mistake in canning a previous coaching staff ( I am not saying this about you bearsradio). Deti can't coordinate, Downing can't motivate, and the upper athletic administration is so concerned with looking "big time" that they have alienated their support...the fans and boosters. People, we stink, it happens from time to time in athletics. Programs change and players change. 1-10, 10-1, 5-5...who cares, we will rise again. I hope that Fassler, Woods, Vlahogeorge, etc., etc. will be there when it happens. Go Bears!!! Go Normal!!!

Wow - now this is a string of posts that gives me hope!! A little fire never hurt anyone. I love to see some passion, I officially just forgot about the ISU game.

1. As I have frequently said I think everyone from the admin, coaching staff, players, students, alumni, media, fans, friends, etc. want to win. I am also certain that the team and coaches is working hard. I appreciate that.
2. The previous coaching staff should not have been fired. Dalton was a legend here and should have been allowed to retire on his terms. Stugart was a damn good d-coordinator who is doing very well as a head coach now. I stand by the statements that we would not be sitting at 1-17 over the past two years with the old staff.
3. The mistake was made when the budget wasn't there to make the move in a sensible way - fully funding scholarships, adding coaching positions, etc. Say what you want about Dalton's recruiting (in fact you are probably right that was not his strongest point) but when you have less scholarship money you cannot offer the studs you like full rides and you have less money to split among the "maybe they'll hits" to get them in here to see what can happen. NDSU was not as good as we were 5 years ago, look at the difference money has made.
3. Unless the redshirt class has a bunch of studs in there, I still do not think we are getting the right talent on campus. Also, this excuse is so old it is an absolute joke. All of Dalton's kids have been run off so the talent that isn't here is squarely on the current coaching staff's shoulders.
4. Bears Radio - I love what you bring to the board and value your perspective, but I think 5 years of what we are looking at now is a monumental mistake. Hell ask the people in Nebraska what they think of the time Callahan has had. In a rebuilding mode, you should see signs of improvement. I haven't seen any. Maybe I will on Saturday. Trust me, I will be the first one to admit when I see it, because I want to desperately.

Ok, I'm reeling this back in...for the sake of our visitor. May I suggest any further conversation regarding where this team is, etc., goes under another topic?

ajwildcat, your "to-do" items could include a number of items:
--you could visit our relatively new museum, in the old newspaper building downtown. Among the displays is one on "Rattlesnake Kate", an ol' gal I wouldn't want to cross.
--the Poudre River Trail is a nice walk/bike along the river between here and Windsor.
--Our Farmer's Market is still being held Saturday mornings at the Convention & Visitor's bureau/the old depot downtown.
--In fact, the CVB's website has a good calendar of events: greeleycvb.com
--You might still be able to catch the aspens turning, if you'd like to take a little road trip. Treking up the Big Thompson Canyon to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park is good, but the aspens are better north and west of Fort Collins, along Colorado 14.

BTW, I'm not one of those who complains about there not being something to do around here ;) Maybe growing up in a town of 150 people has something to do with that...

I asked Ron McBride what he saw in Northern Colorado, and he fully expects a very physical and hard fought game. He had nothing but respect for UNC their players and their coaches and said that UNC will be very hard to beat. He also mentioned how UNC has played basically nothing but road games and said they are hungry and will be very physical.

That's just coach-speak. You guys will cruise. I say WSU 40-something, UNC 14. We stop playing when we get to 14. You'll easily get 500-plus yards against us. Glad I won't be there to witness this.

I loved going to school in Greeley. I remeber rollerblading from West campus to Bittersweet park and back (after a few trips around the park). On a clear day, sitting on top of the hill by the University Center overlooking west campus and the Mountains (far away) watching the coeds walk by in their summer clothes.

If you have time, take 34 west into the Canyon (Big Thompson) and to Estes Park. It's beautiful.

You are getting great advise here. If you get in early enough, the Colorado mountains in the fall are a pretty special place. Come back spin around campus a little and grab dinner at Roma's or the new place downtown that Bears Radio mentioned. End the night at one of the hot college watering holes. That would be a pretty quality day in my book.

By the way, can BR or someone help me with what ever happened to the Armory? That was one of the spots in my day. Dean was a good guy. I wouldn't have traded my time at UNC for anything.

My suggusted itenery:
Friday: Check out the bars, go downtown and skate at the ice rink, visit the museum and the UCCC.
Saturday: Walk around campus (it is beautiful in the fall, especially central campus), watch the parade, come to the tailgate, watch the game. Go to Glenmere park, head out to the Pwanee National Grassland.
Sunday: Drive to Estes Park

There is a thred on the BigSkyFans.com board with more ideas as well.

As for the game, I think that Weber defense makes it tough on the Bears. It looks like the WSU offense started to click last week, but I'm not buying it yet. I cannot imagine that the Bears aren't excited to be home for homecoming. I feel like an upset is in the works. I know it is my heart talking and not my head - UNC 17, WSU 10.  GO BEARS!

I hope the team can get fired up for homecoming, and maybe not being on the road so dang much will help too. I go with UNC - 17, WSU - 14.
That score assumes that all the small positive things from all the games so far come to gether, and most of the bad things go away.

Dean had an offer he couldn't refuse from a developer who wanted the parking lot. He is currently managing what's called the Bayou House, north of town at Lucerne.

Oh crap!!! WSU starting Quarterback Cameron Higgins has been suspended by the team and will NOT travel to Northern Colorado. Higgins started out the year as the #2 QB. Our #1 is out with knee surgery, so we will be coming to Greeley with our #3 & #4 QB's.

What did he do? Our defense will still make your #3,#4 qbs look like All-Americans.

Rumor has it that 3 young knuckleheads (Freshman) including our QB got caught shoplifting $150 worth of gear from the campus bookstore.
