Walsh Considering Army?(Walsh lands OC Position @ Army)

now there are ors of army

Army's new head coach is Portland native Stan Brock. (I was just getting Brocks confused... remember D-liner Matt at Oregon, it wasn't Stan, who went to Colorado). I guess there's a rumor that Brock (who just dismissed Bobby Ross' son as OC) is looking to hire Walsh to that position with Army.

BTW... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2751451

Anyone thinking about knives and backsides here?

Walsh is scheduled to be on The Fan on the afternoon show on Wednesday for letter of intent day.

Wonder if it'll be to announce something else as well. :-\

if so he has really bad timing, finding a good coach and a good AD all at the same time can't be easy

why would walsh want to get demoted, and relocate. By demoted I don't only mean in position but because Portland State could very well win on a regular basis against the army regardless of them being D1A. I think someone is just trying to stir the pot. This could be the best Portland State team ever and leaving this year would ruin all the previous years work at building a program.

I just heard about this on news channel 8 and was said that Walsh is the only person tthat army is looking at to fill the OC postion and he has it if he wants it. Also that when Walsh was questioned about the offer he said no comment.

My feeling is that i wont believe the rumors until it has accepted by the PSU Athletics Dept. If it is true then I think PSU athletics are in a tough situation because they are in a major transition period with hiring a new AD and also stablizing a shaky situation with the head Football coach position! I think Walsh has every right to explore opportunities that are going to advance his career even though army may not have that great of a program it is still a step up from 1-AA to 1A, step up in salary and it put him in the coaching relm of 1A.

I have a hard time seeing Walsh leaving after conducting an amazing recruiting squad and knowing that his team has very good chances of going to the post season next yr even more so than the 06 season. But keeping Walsh after next season will most likely be the first and toughest thing that the new AD will have to work on!! If Walsh takes PSU to the post season next year PSU Athletics will have to make a considerable offer to Walsh to stay. This is all IMO though.

wow, so many things we have no clue about.....

My money would be on Walsh leaving.

I can understand his frustration. No AD in place and a serious lack of support from the Athletic Department.

I think we need a new coach, but being in a situation where we have no AD and no head coach is pretty scary.

Only guilt of leaving will keep him here, which I don't think will happen, we need to solve our AD issue very soon or getting a good HC will be very dificult

Not having an AD in place IS a major problem. Hope the university gets on the ball soon and hire someone good for AD or.......

These are some interesting post from another fan board about our situation.

1. I say bring back Mouse Davis as AD/Head Coach. He got the program started and still is coaching at Hawaii. They had a great year and he would bring alot to the program

2. Getting Davis to leave The Islands would be a tall order. His job as backs coach is part of his retirement plan to stay close but not to close to the game.

3. Both Mouse Davis and June Jones, I'm sure, have a considerable vested interest in Portland State's football program. I think it goes without saying that consulting them for their opinion(s) as to who to bring in as head coach is of paramount import.
That is an excellent place to begin the search.

4. If Walsh does accept the move up to Army, what I'd love to hear would be a radio interview over 93.1 KTRO between Tom Hewitt and both Mouse Davis and June Jones about their own contributions to the start-up and survival of Portland State football, their analysis of where the program has gone, where it is likely to go from here, and then, in particular, which coaches they would recommend as the best fit to take over the Portland State stewardship from out amongst the national candidates.
Including these two coaches into the mix---that'd add some sizzle to the search. And it'd be fun.

I've personally talked to June Jones and read many articles on UH, MD and JJ will retire in the islands, they won't be coaching here

we will be looking elsewhere

June wont retire in the islands....that is fact if you really knew the situation. I agree that he wont be coaching here though. I do think there would be a chance to get Mouse to come as AD/Head Coach.
If not, they should have a big say in what we do with the open head coach position. IMO

pretty sure JJ wil finish his career at UH, he has a year left on his contract and has expressed that he wants to continue even after that

I'm hoping we can get an athletic director that can do things on his/her own, I think JJ and MD have done alot for PSU but I think the AD should be the person to go out and make the decision on who we get

Mouse is 75.. We need a younger guy that could add some energy to the program and not travel up and down the sidelines with a walker and depends undergarments.
