Weber State @ Eastern Predictions

Wow, did this thread take a serious detour. :off:

So, the consensus appears to be that Weber will win in a really close game (something like 28-24 for Weber).

This game scared me more than any other game before the season began. Injuries and some National Championship hangover have already taken E. Wash out of the equation. Last year's matchup showed that a Taiwan Jones-less E. Wash team was not much better than last year's squad. We're a better team this year with a QB that doesn't turn the ball over. I don't know how long until Hoke throws a INT but as long as he takes care of the ball on Saturday, I expect we win by two touchdowns. If we have 2+ turnovers this will be a barn burner. I'll split the difference and say 38-31 Wildcats. We rack up 400 yards of offense with 250 on the ground. I know Coach Mac and I know that he is licking his chops looking at the film of E. Wash's rush defense. This week's practice will be fine tuning the running game for Sat.
Not so fast Weber fan, it is our offensive line, guards and center in particular, that are beat up. Our D-line is still strong. Granted we lost a Buchanan award candidate at linebacker but this team is hungry and has an attitude. A winning attitude!!
I don't think the difference will be your offense but specifically our QB. If BLM plays to his capabilities and hits open receivers, of which there will be several, we move up and down the field regularly. With Taiwan Jones we had one back that was outstanding, now we have 2 backs that are VERY good in the open field.
It will be a good game which the Eagles get their first of 7 wins!!
Go Eagles

Rushing Offense
1. Portland State 3 145 815 5.6 11 271.7
2. Weber State 4 178 830 4.7 7 207.5
3. Montana State 4 170 814 4.8 8 203.5
4. Northern Arizona 4 148 751 5.1 8 187.8
5. Sacramento State 4 156 721 4.6 6 180.2
6. Montana 4 143 682 4.8 7 170.5
7. Northern Colorado 4 105 362 3.4 2 90.5
8. Eastern Washington 4 100 289 2.9 2 72.2
9. Idaho State 4 95 152 1.6 5 38.0

Rushing Defense
1. Montana State 4 118 472 4.0 4 118.0
2. Northern Arizona 4 125 512 4.1 6 128.0
3. Portland State 3 98 389 4.0 4 129.7
4. Northern Colorado 4 152 597 3.9 7 149.2
5. Montana 4 194 770 4.0 7 192.5
Idaho State 4 146 770 5.3 6 192.5
7. Sacramento State 4 156 857 5.5 12 214.2
8. Weber State 4 155 898 5.8 8 224.5
9. Eastern Washington 4 177 917 5.2 4 229.2

The fact that you are below us in rushing offense and defense is the reason we will win this game. The fact that you are below us in rushing defense even though we played Utah State is what has Coach Mac licking his chops. Obviously your D-Line isn't as good as you thought.

A winning attitude? They're 0-4.

Apparently the E. Wash fans are mad that I predicted 400 yards of offense against them this year. Where do I get off writing something like that?!! Hmm. :sarcasm:

Weber Offensive statistics against EWU 2010
1st Downs 24
Total Yards 459
Passing 315
Rushing 144

I'd say I was pretty generous considering that half their team is in the ER.

I'm worried about this game. Eastern is still a very good team. Yes they have had some really bad breaks this year, but they can still win any game at any time. Unfortunately for the Eags they have a number of key players out, but this is a team that is desperate. They need a win and they need one now. They are at home with their backs against the wall. It is going to be an absolute battle tomorrow. They will be doing everything they can to right the ship and move forward. They will not over-look the Cats.

Weber can't get cocky. They have to play their best to win. Have we seen that yet? Personally, I don't think any of us have any clue how good of a team this Cat team has the potential to be. But they are young and lack experience. Yes, they are getting better every week, and I'm pretty sure none of them want to go through the debacle that was the USU second half again. But they have got to play SMART. Do their jobs, hold onto the ball, and play hard nose football.

The keys to this game:
1. Put pressure on BLM. Chase him, hit him, knock him down, and make sure he is hurried all day long. Weber can't give him anytime. Got to be sure to hurry him and never let him get in a rythmn.
2. The secondary has got to grow up in a hurry. To many times our secondary has been beaten this year or haven't been in position. Our achilles heel, to me, is our secondary. Yes, there is a lot of potential for the secondary to become a shut down group, but they aren't there yet. Last week, Sac, Wyoming, and USU all were able to open up their offense by passing. Gotta shut down Easterns receivers, and that starts with the defensive line. Can't give BLM time.
3. Keep up the balanced offensive attack. Use the run to open up our passing game. Just because Eastern is at the bottom doesn't mean they won't be able to stop our running attack (granted, it doesn't look good for them in this category, but it can still happen). Hammer has got to keep the play calling imaginative, thus keeping the Eagles off-balanced. Also, let all 5 RB's carry the rock. Each gives the offense something different.
4. HOLD ONTO THE BALL...NO TO's!! The last two losses to Eastern both can be blamed on TOs. 5 TDS were taken away in the last two losses to Eastern because of Red Zone TOs. No TOs.
5. Make their offense one-dimensional. Completely stuff their running offense. Make them beat us through the air.
6. Control the clock. Smash-mouth football eats up a lot of time.
7. Make them frustrated. They will commit a bunch of fouls tomorrow. They are desperate...they will try to out tough us. Weber needs to play smart, not commit any fouls, and play their usual toughness. This to me can be a huge detriment for Eastern. Make them commit the fouls and don't reciprocate, just go back to the huddle and take the yards. Putting the Eagles in bad situations and field position.
8. Make sure the field is long for the Eagles through the kicking game. Don't give them chances on Special Teams and then hit a home run with our KR/PR.

:agree: I'm with you. I just thought it was funny that they were mad when I said that we'd rack up 400 yards of offense. Heck, this is the Big Sky that we play in, every team has at least 300 yards by the end of the game. I, too, am worried about this game but I think that our chances have skyrocketed due to E. Wash's numerous injuries and the loss of Taiwan Jones. Jones is irreplacable.

I don't think that your prediction is to far fetched...400+ yard of offense for the Cats. The last three games Weber had over 400 yards.

2010: 459
2009: 418
2008: 456

Will this win be enough to put WSU back in the top 25?
It should, but I wouldn't be shocked to see them as the top vote-getter outsided the top-25 either.

I appreciate the optimism you have for your team, as misguided as it may be. :blah:

Looks like a carbon copy of the gameplan that MSU used.

I think we win. 38 to 24. I agree with 400+ yards for the game as well. I expect a hard fought game for most of the game though.

Just found out Brandon Kaufman will try to play tomorrow with a broken hand. Desperation move for EWU? A receiver playing with a broken HAND?!

With or without Taiwan Jones, there is no doubt that EWU has a superb passing offense and will be able to take advantage of the inexperienced WSU secondary to score some points today!

Although Weber will gain significant yards with the passing game, and the Big Sky's most efficient quarterback MIKE HOKE will find most of his targets, there is also a liklihood that the Eagle secondary will be able to disrupt Weber's air game to a greater extent than previous Wildcat FCS opponents. The difference will be that HOKE will not panic.

The challenge for Eastern Washington will be for their rushing defense - dead last in the Big Sky - to contain the WSU running game - #2 in the Big Sky - and get the Wildcats off of the field.

Weber gain more than 400 yards and will prevail on the red carpet.

I think we will win big. 50-0. It is going to be a fun year.

Not so much.

Good game, Weber fans, just glad we got the win. Hope your tackle is alright, we know all about offensive line injuries this year, unfortunately.

We didn't run the ball great, but just well enough to keep you honest. Not bad for a patch-work O-line with a TE playing center, though.

Thanks for being classy, but you should tell it how it is. Your 2nd/3rd/4th/5th stringers just beat our guys at pretty much full strength. We got exposed and we'll end up 4-4 in conference play.
