Weber vs St Mary's

And 1280 the zone drops the game. All I gotta say is :wtf: Bullinger and Bamforth better get their crap together in the next couple of games. Why can't we run an offense and create shots for Bam?

You realize Bull slipped a disc earlier this week. we are glad to even have his toughness out there. Playing with a bad back is never a fun but at least he gave it a go.
But he's been struggling with his shot all year.

Not watching, hard to say if the refs have really been as bad as the Weber announcers make them out to be, but offensive drought in second half is the biggest reason for this loss. Lillard/Tresnak have 50, rest have 15.

IMO, the refs weren't as bad tonight as they were last night. We just can't expect one player to carry us offensively. When our starters are that cold, I think it's time to mix the line-up up a little bit.

But playing when you're hurt can hurt the team as well.

Fully Aware. Not much help on the court though was he?

So where was Mohoney the 2nd half??? I think we could have used his toughness and defense down low.... too many easy points down low....

4 points from the bench. Terrible.

SMC 69% shooting in the 2nd
WSU outrebounded by 13... Nice effort tonight Wildcats.............
WOW. The whole freakin team should have stayed in Ogden. Just send Lillard & Tresnak next time. Anyone want my tickets for the SJSU, BYU, & SUU games next week. :protesst:

Beating a team when you are playing against 8 players is pretty tough. Bad calls makes defenses porous because players get scared to play physical and tighten up. We've gotta admit, offensively Weber didn't play well. We need more balance. Bull and Bam were both non-existent, weber can't win if that happens. We need something to help free up Bam. Double screen, skip pass, in and out...something. Was mahoney injured? Where was he?

OK, it is official. We do not play defense in second halves!!! 69 percent shooting... really? Who was blaming Bull and Bam? I think 69 percent shooting in the second half, 21 assists vs 7 (team ball?), 56 points in the second half and being out-rebounded by 13 had a bit more to do with the loss!

AGREED!!! Hajek is not Darin. I know James has more height and weight but Mohoney is a seasoned vet and one of our best defenders. Very disappointed that he was not in the game. :ohno: take your pick at the struggling player he could have replaced tonight..

And I agree that we have been out coached all season. Its hard to find things bad about Rahe but we have come out FLAT in every 2nd half all year. Randy needs to step it up and make some adjustments..

In and out? From Otis and Fulton? Ha, never seen it but would like to! And if Bull and Bam go cold... Rahe has to use/trust/develop his bench! He has great talent and potential there! But someday he needs to develop it!

There is no "flat second half" theme. Just ask WeberSki. :)

Absolutely. Giving up the second-half surges in all four of their wins made me nervous and it reared it's ugly head tonight. Looking a lot like Weber State football. Great first half squad...can't freakin' finish! It will burn us big, even at home if they don't get tough down the stretch. Oh yeah, and bench Bullinger please. :wall:

We cant buy a call, Im going to bed, and I thought refs at the Spectrum were horrid. Congrats St. Mary's, I hope you enjoyed the help.

Jeez, all some you guys do is blame the refs.

You guys haven't played well since the midget Bamforth went unconscious against USU.

I've been rooting for you guys, but I just don't see you guys having a distinct advantage over USU/BYU as the best team in the state. USU would beat you guys in the Spectrum and BYU looks like they have a legitimate shot at beating you guys in the Marriott Center (only because of the refs though)

2 Words Chorpus Christi....
SUU by 3 in Logan, Really??

But ALL is right in the world now that usu has a 13 pt victory over the Mighty Bengals, the worst team in the big sky.

i dont have much too say. i dont think we played bad, smc is a just a good team. i didn't love seeing us with 10 more fouls than them which was mostly in the first half and took away our 10 point lead but that is life on the road. are any of us surprised? it will be much worse in provo and no diff in logan every other year.

lillard's 36 points tied his career high. smc's dellakornikova had 11 assists which you never seen in college but he did have 6 turnovers.

on a funny note, one smc fan, a 60 yr old man was heckling/talking trash to a couple high school girls that were part of the players families. :wtf: :bad:

After a nights sleep, I feel I can be a bit more rational.

Life on the road is tough. For 75% of the game Weber hung with a very good St. Mary's team, probably a better team than last years team, and even though the score isn't indicative of their efforts, the Cats were in a position to win. They went for the Home Run, swinging hard and missing badly, but they could have pulled it off last night.

St. Mary's isn't an easy place to play, and to win at. Honestly, St. Mary's might be the best team in the WCC this year. NO shame in losing to them, especially hanging with them for 32min. Fact of the matter, Weber ran out of steam and lost their edge. For me, the turning point in the game was when Weber missed 6 straight FTs with about 8mins to go trailing by 8. Weber makes those FTs it's a totally different ball game. However, they did miss those FTs, and then Mary's was able to make some crucial treys and inside buckets which killed the Cats confidence. You could tell after the misses, the teams physicality was lacking. The Cats hung their heads and lost any momentum they had. St. Mary's taught Weber a great lesson. I hope our team and coaches learned from them. When their opponent is on the ropes, don't help him up, stomp on his throat. That is what Randy Bennetts squad did last night. They knew those misses were going to kill the Cats, which they did, and they knew that the best way to gut us was to push on the gas and finish us off.

After missed FTs, can't do that on the road and expect to win, my next biggest complaint was the lack of team ball. Yes, D-Lill had no choice, in my opinion nobody else was stepping up, but for the Cats to be successful and reach their full potential they HAVE to have more guys contributing. WE NEED BALANCE!! The Cats were anything but balanced last night. I'm sure Bamforth and Bullinger will be having nightmares about St. Mary's high school gym for years to come. Kinda hard making a transition from playing in a real Arena to playing in a dingy gym. But that is part of the experience of being a DI player. Gotta be able to bring your A game everywhere you play. You could tell that Bull wasn't 100% last night. Also, is Mahoney okay? Weber needs more from him, especially on the offensive side of the court. But he is our top defender and does so many of the little things which ensure our success that you can really tell when he isn't on the court.

Areas of grave concern:
1. Fulton and Tres can be blackholes...they need to LEARN HOW TO PASS it out. Lord Byron and Tres are quickly becoming my fav. Wildcats, but do they have to shot it everytime they get the ball? There is a lot of room for growth. Also, gotta hit FT's. Tres was 3-10 last night. Can't do that and expect to win.

2. J-Rich, Weber needs him to play turnover free, and to take better shots. He has the ability and I know it is hard coming in off the bench and hitting shots, especially when you are cold, but he has got to find a way to get himself going. Weber needs some serious production from him. Samething with Brown. I like both of them. They are tough kids.

3. Rahe has got to create some plays to get Bam open. Double screens, skip passes, curls, anything. Last night you could tell that St. Mary's knew how to be successful against Weber. Lill will get his, but shut everyone else down and you beat Weber. If you take away Bam and Bull you make an extremely dangerous team helpless. Yes, Lillard is the star, but he needs help. I'd like to see Lillards assist numbers go up.

4. We need better defense in the paint. WAAAAAAY Toooo many easy buckets by the Gayles last night. WEBER has to stay tough. This team is starting to look dainty, instead of being a tough nosed, grind it out squad. Yes, we can run and finesse basketball on the offensive side of the court, but we can't do that on the defense. Play solid defense. Switch the zone from 2-3 to 3-2, or a box and 1, or a match-up...give teams other looks. There are other ways to slow down opposing offenses, but it has to start with a teams toughness, and right now, Weber doesn't look very tough.

The only problem with playing physical defense is when we tried to play tough nosed physical defense we got called for a foul, I cant count how many times one of our bigs got called for a foul even if they had their arms straight up in the air, blocks turned into free throws. All game long.

If the refs wont let us, we cant play physical defense. Why else would the players back off so much? they knew they weren't going to get the calls.
