Week 3 - HOMECOMING vs Sacramento State

Welcome back for Homecoming AJ!

This third game will be telling, no longer will the "overmatched or overwhelmed" excuses work, it is a beatable opponent and at home. Time to work the wrinkles out and let the play do the talking. Coach Hill hinted after the first two games that the Wildcats need something good to happen...need to get some good "mojo" going...for this team to take off. Coach Clark said that the first two games were great learning experiences...

Time to show it! Get it done! Anything less is unacceptable & inexcusable!!! :coffee:

Gotta hand it to Garside on this one. He tried to build controversy off of the "Sears" being the former coach at Weber approach. He got a couple of players to bite, but overall I think Hill and especially Sears did a good job of minimizing the issue. I think we can mostly agree that Sears was put into an absolutely dreadful position that was going to be tough to climb out of. He acknowledges that and takes the high road with his comments. Granted, under the skin he is probably bugged by what occurred and felt he was given the short end of the stick. I'm sure he would love nothing more than to come into Stewart Stadium and beat the Cats. Anyway, gotta love the attempt.

And NCAAfootball...really, you are comparing Ole Miss to Weber State? Apples to Oranges bud. Ole Miss has played two patsies that they scored over 70 pts on. ALSO THEY ARE SEC!! Weber is in the Big Sky that is an FCS Conference. Weber has played two teams that are far better than the Cats. Oregon State is going to have a rough year, for sure but they are still a PAC-12 team. They were supposed to have beaten us a lot worse than 26-7. Did you really think the Cats were going to win?? Also, NDSU is a four-time FCS Champ, who shouldn't have lost in Missoula, but did, and we were playing them, at their place, after a BYE week, with a bad loss stinging them. I'm pretty sure we hit a buzz saw last week. It was expected that we were going to lose. I don't think there were any fans expecting Weber to be 2-0 or even 1-1. If the Cats were able to steal a game, that would have been unexpected and miraculous. Are there issues with the OC, after two games, against two high profile opponents, who's strengths are DEFENSE, YES, there are issues. Should we be concerned, 1-26 on 3rd down, YES, but to the point of abandoning the team and saying they aren't getting better? NO...

Were you even around 2 years ago? Need I remind you that Weber got thumped every time out in 2013 and that they needed a wind storm to win 2 games? Last year...we didn't expect the Cats to win more than 2013.; just wanted them to be competitive. Which they were! And this year, so far so good. The Oregon State game was unexpected. We did a lot better than I thought we would. NDSU, we did about what I thought we would. Remember the last time, with MAC as our coach, when we visited Fargo? I think the final was 42-0, but that team was definitely on the rise and so is this one. We need a QB. We all know that. From Hill's perspective, he is the best that we've got. Let's hope for a better showing Saturday from our offense. :thumb:

HEY TALHADFOURSTEAL! OH REALLY!!!!
So if you don't like the Ole Miss and SEC comparison, how about the comparison of the Montana Grizz's...They are only averaging 92 plays per game and last I looked they were still in the BIG SKY.....how many more references would you like made within the Big Sky conference. Do your homework. The point I was making is that the offense is slow, play call is slow and that this is a problem when you have someone like the Grizz's of the Big Sky are averaging almost twice is many plays on offense than WSU. Can you imagine what the WSU defense will look like after they have been on the field for almost 100 plays against the Grizz....Three yards and a cloud of dust went out of style in the 70's yet WSU keeps doing it.

Okay...that is a better comparison. And NO...I do not like the SEC comparison. Makes your argument far more viable using a team in the same league and level. :thumb:

Hey look, I agree with you. I haven't been wowed by the offense this season. It isn't very exciting, fast, or frankly efficient. That is where we can agree. I think it is pathetic that our offense is 1-26 on 3rd down, probably the biggest reason why Weber's defense is on the field around 38mins a game. I also don't think, from what we have seen so far -two road games against better competition- that Weber's offense is tailored to support the talents of the players playing. I will say this, we need to remember where Jay Hill is coming from. Whittingham loves the 3 yards and dust plays. He is a smash mouth football guy. That is what Jay learned and his offense is showing it so far.

Good job on the article Garside. Man, Clark has made some interesting comments in the past few weeks. I hope that he starts to back them up starting this weekend. He showed some flashes last year but the jury is still out this year.
I hope for the best for the Wildcats and am optimistic that they will bet the Hornets this Saturday. But it all comes down to the two Clark's (Steve and Jadrian).

The fact that Clark or any other football player at WSU is talking smack in the media about Sears, Sac St or any thing else out there tells you how clueless and out of touch they are with reality. So far this season based on Clark's performance, all he has proven is that Sears was absolutely right to keep him on the bench and off of the field. It's put up or shut up time for Clark and so far Clark needs to shut up and starting putting up some type of stats (like a possible 1st down once in a while) and the 3rd game would be a nice time to start that.
FRICKEN IDIOTS!

Yeah, I have to agree, he's been running his mouth some this week and there's been no indication so far that he or the offense can back it up.

A Sears team vs WSU-2015 :yikes: I don't think I can handle an 0-6 final score.

I don't give a rat's azz about the uniform or the score, as long as we get a win.

By the way, the last time we had a good offense was when Ars. was the coach. We just never had a defense back then. We've almost never had both at the same time. OCs must be a hard thing to find. It seems if we get a good one we can't keep them. :wtf:

Where were you in '08? Higgins, Smith, Toone? But you are right about the OCs. McGiven was gone the next season. If they're good they quickly move up.

The fact that the good ones move up quickly is the very reason we should be hiring "offensive minded" and experienced head coaches. The system remains consistent if OC's are hired who can continue the system introduced by the head coach. If we make a mistake and hire a bad OC the head coach can counteract that situation if they are "offensive" coaches. I wonder if anyone has ever considered that when coaches are selected. I know Bovee does not give credibility to that approach when he hires.

Everybody loses in games with that kind of score. You should give a rat's @$$ about both if you're a fan of keeping peoples interest so they want to come back. Not many people want to sit through something like that no matter what they're wearing! I'll add I'm not a fan of the unis either, just put a nice look on the field, representative of the school colors. I know, some will say it's fun for the players. I would hope winning would be of more concern than looking "good."

You're right, there have been a lot struggles offensively over recent years but the past several have been anemic. It wears on fans in a big way to have historical struggles in the win column compounded with poor offense-- you may as well watch soccer. I'm a huge fan of Ars and his offense, I was mad he didn't have the support of the administration and sad when he left. If I'm going to watch a 2-10 season and have to choose between a great offense or great defense, I'm going offense every time as a spectator.

Personally, I think we have the wrong guy leading the offense. If he is our best QB, we are in trouble. I hope I'm eating crow on Monday and that Jadrian proves me wrong, but I am not happy with his comments in the Substandard Exaggerator. I feel, in that situation, you don't say anything. You talk about your team and move on. Be the bigger person and highlight what you are doing to improve your play and your teammates. Don't say everyone should be scared, as of right now, you haven't done anything to scare anyone. Focus on yourself and not make negative comments that makes your team, school, and self look like idiots.

The uniforms are fine. Anything is better than what the team has been wearing. I think it is all in the interest of changing perspective. If you want to improve confidence and play, change as much as you can that you have control over.

I had a thought. Since Sears is the opposing coach this week, I thought it would be interesting to see how many guys he recruited who are on our two deep.

Offense 5: Hawkins, Young, Eyolfson and Corpus were all JLS recruits and Oliverson was a MAC recruit.
Clark and Leckington QB
Livingston WR
Brown OG
AJ Wilcox OT

Defense 6: Devonte Johnson and Jalin Ames were MAC recruits.
Josh Burton FS
Jalen Fields SS
Adam Lewis DE
Johnathan Carlson DE
Tre'von Johnson LB
Cordero Dixon FS

Not a fan of the uniforms they'll be wearing. Miss the purple.

Agree, but I'm OK with whatever...even pink uni's, as long as they start playing like a decently good football team!!!!!!!!!!!

Read the game is on KJZZ TV--mixed feelings about that for home games--just allows the semi-fans to stay home rather than bother to go & pay for seats. Although probably not a big difference anyway. I'm sure the viewers will be more than impressed looking at the half-empty east side stands, as usual not an attractive view. Hope WSU gets a few measley $$ for it!

Good weather, free tickets, and the other three local schools are on the road with starting times that don't conflict too much with game time. I'm optimistic that we'll see a pretty good crowd for the game.

Agree, however, America First is paying for the tix of the fans likely to stay home in the first place and it's great weather (if you like clear, sunny, and mild) so I doubt it'll make much difference in this one. I personally believe 0-2, 4-22, and a well publicized anemic offense are the things that will keep fans away. It wouldn't surprise me to see 7K there instead of the 12K you'd hope for on a home opener Homecoming.
