Week One: Adams State

Adams already had a game today and won against Dixie State. I have no clue about this team. I just hope we put it in the bag by the 3rd QT. Anyone have any details on ASU?

Don't know much about them either, but they seem to have a decent QB, he was co-offensive player of the year in the RMAC last year.

Looks like their QB can throw on the run:

They predict we win 33-11 which I would consider a disapointing margin of victory at this stage.

Go to hell Blo! You're the biggest piece of crap on this board. You're nothing but negative. I don't think I've ever read a post by you that had anything constructive to say. Why don't you find another team to rag on. I for one am tired of reading your sh*t. If you hate this team so much then go follow eGriz.

I think any win would be a good win for us. It would be nice to have a comfortable lead so we could play some of the second string players to see how they are working out.

here's the best thing we can do!
show up!
suport the bears!
bring a friend or 2!
hoot and holler for the bears!

the team is having a solid week of practice, so i hear. everything appears on track for a great season. it comes down to coach d has to move forward, starting saturday! these guys are a .500 team or better on paper with the defense experianced as they are. i hope to see saturday's game as 3qtrs's of starter's. and the 4th qtr for backups mopping up abit....i believe coach d and this staff have laid a good foundation for moving forward in the 'sky'.

it all starts saturday, so come out and show your support, and tell a friend to come too! weather wil be great, the beer is always cold!

any injury updates? only thing ive heard is lobato missed tuesdays practice

Actually, he has faith in this team if he thinks they can beat Adams State by more than 22 points. An FCS team playing in one of the best FCS conferences should be able to handle Adams State by over 3 touchdowns. My only concern is that Adams State has already played a game so they may get off to a quicker start to the game but by the 4th quarter if this game is not sewn up, I will be worried for Big Sky play.

I don't think Peterson is going to open the offensive playbook to much against Adams, nor should he. Save that for Weber the next week. We should have this game in the bag by the end of the half. But Brian is right, they already have one game under them and that might help. However, no excuse this shouldn't be over by the 3rd - at the latest.

Thank You #1bearsfan!!! I will take a win whether it's by 1 or 40!

Here's the official uncbears.com preview:
http://uncbears.com/sports/fball/2010-11/releases/090110gm1preview

Interesting items to note from the article:
Season Openers
Northern Colorado opens the 2010 season at home against Adams State on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 1:35 p.m. at Nottingham Field.
  • The Bears are 44-50-3 all-time in season openers and are 26-20-1 when opening the slate in Greeley.
  • Head Coach Scott Downing is 0-4 in openers, playing only 2006 at Nottingham Field.
  • This is the first time since 2006 the Bears have not faced an FBS team in the opener.

September 4
Northern Colorado is a perfect 3-0 in games played on September 4, with a 1-0 mark in Greeley. The last game played was a 15-13 victory over North Dakota State in 2004.

Scouting Adams State
The Grizzlies were the only team on the 2010 Bears’ schedule to open their season last weekend. Adams State rolled to a 34-14 victory over Dixie State, amassing 576 yards of total offense and limiting the Red Storm to just 23 net rushing yards. In 2009, ASC was 5-6 overall and tied for fifth in the RMAC with a 5-4 mark. The team returns 13 starters and 29 letter winners from last year.

And lastly,
A Win Would...
  • be the second-straight home opening victory for the Bears after a 31-12 win over San Diego in 2009.
  • be the first season opening win since 2006.
  • be the sixth-straight win over Adams State.

So based on this preview, and based on all the information I've read so far this season, I agree with Blofield that the margin of victory should be much higher than the 22-point prediction (33-11).

I'm predicting at least 42-10, Bears. With a good deal of playing time for the depth chart.

I was thinking the same thing as Blofeld. Back in our D-II days we trounced Adams by something like 70-7 and we could have hung 100 on them if we wanted. If we can't do that now, it wouldn't be a good sign going into our Division I schedule. I know there is a lot of optimism on this board and I can't help but feel it too which means, if this team is even close to as good as we all hope, we need to be playing our third string by the end of the second quarter.

Exactly! Sure a win is a win, but if this team gets out with anything less than a blowout of ASU, then it could spell trouble. This game will be a good measure of how this team is doing compared to our DII days or even Downing's 2nd year when we lost to Chadron St (shudder...I still get chills). I remember running up 50...60...70 points on teams like ASU during my first couple of years, we should be there again if all the sunshine around here is for real.

PS... Because I'm in a good mood, I will allow some sunshine of my own to poke through and say that I wold like to believe we are as good as we were in 03 when we went 9-2 and beat ASU by 55-14. I'll predict that same score again.

We gotta pound these guys, but none the less I'll be happy with a win. I just think there's way to much talent on this team to be another Chadron St., that year UNC sucked, this year a lot better talent wise. I agree I think Adams will get off to a fast start because they have a game under their belt. But, I think UNC's better talent will take over and this game should be over by 3 quarter.

It's pretty sad and I'd even say a big reason why this program has become a laughing stock, so many dont care if they win or lose, that's why they lose, they can and it's accepted.

Pathetic really, anyone with any pride or competive spirit would be "negative" about a program that has won 6 games in 4 years.

If you want to cheerlead that's fine, wear your skirt and wave your pom poms but I'm a competetor, I want to win and when we don't I don't accept it.

Also, I'd bet the players themselves would expect to beat Adams State by more than 22 points, if they can't do that then they need to return that scholarship.

And I love the internet toughguy routine, I'm sure I wouldn't get that from you Saturday face to face.
