Week One: Adams State

Lets get this conversation back on a positive route. The Bears have a "golden" (pardon the pun) opportunity to get the season off to a 2-1, or even 3-0 start. Adams State is a middle-of-the-road RMAC team who has some very good players. But yes, the Bears should be able to win by a healthy margin. But don't forget, it's only week 1, and there is sure to be some growing pains in the early going. Don't be upset if this game is still close in the first half. You just hope the talent differential will take over after in the final 30 minutes. And, we will be getting Grizzlies' best shot, this is their only opponent from the FCS level, so I'm sure many of the ASC players will take it personal and leave it all out there at Nottingham.

On another note, for those in the area, it would be great for you to make it out there if possible. I'm not naive, and I understand it's the first weekend of college football, including some "other" in-state rivalry being played at Mile High. But, it would be great to see the community come and out support these guys. I'm excited, and hope you are too! Go Bears!

Yeah, I'm not holding out on a big crowd for several reasons:

A - The game is during CU and CSU

B - It's against an average D2 team

C - It's labor day weekend and people are traveling

D - We're coming off a bad season.

All things considered I now I'll be there with my family. I'm hoping to get at least 5k there.

To all those going, have fun and be loud. I will be cheering from home in Maryland watching on B2TV.com (Big Sky TV).

FYI, the Weber State - Boston College game is on ESPN3.Com at 10:30 (Mountain time).

This is amazing. Orms with a perfect bomb for a TD. Harris with an amazing long run for a TD. The defense with an INT for a TD.

I know it's only Adams State but still...

Good game.

Well, for at least your team.

The way we have played the last few years, nothing was a given. It's been a long time coming. Good start leading into a big game against Weber State.

Also, I think Beardown should create the Weber State game-day thread. He may be good luck. :D

Well, we are a Division II school in one of the most struggling Division II leagues. The Big Sky is one of the better Division 1 FCS leagues regardless of the team. Two years ago, we lost by four touchdowns on the road to the lowest-ranked team in all of 1-AA. Therefore, I think this game was a given.

Still, I think we have a good chance of finishing with our first winning season since 2006. We started that year with a home win over Dixie State too. I still wish we would not schedule games against schools like Northern Colorado or Montana State. There's no benefit to Adams State at all to play these teams. However, I don't make the schedule, so I can only be unhappy with such games and deal with it.

Didn't stop us from losing to Chadron State.

Yes, but Chadron State didn't just field THE best team in the RMAC, they were fielding one of the best teams in all of Division II in that season. They were unbeaten on the season. Chadron knocked out Montana State the year prior.

Futhermore, Adams hasn't beaten Chadron since 2005 and has never beaten a team from a higher division.

We will have to move on and hopefully pull off an upset in two weeks against CSU-Pueblo. We were picked to finish 6th this year in the 10-team RMAC.

Nice game Bears but we don't know how good we are yet. Much tougher test against Weber next week. BTW, attendance sucked today (just over 4,000) I know guess it was expected. Same time as CU/CSU, Labor day weekend, bad team, etc. We keep winning and the fans will come out.

Yeah I actually have no criticisms believe it or not. We did what we had to do we put it to them early and often and broke their will. I don't think they got across mid field, maybe once all day. No injuries except Barbiasz limped off and had ice on his ankle, hopefully it's a mild sprain.

My observations, I love our new offensive scheme, NO MORE SPREAD! I knew it was coming but to witness us under center, running the ball, controlling the line of scrimmage, playing ball control, using play action to pop the long pass, I was almost in tears in the stands, seriously...

No turn overs! Ball security had been a huge issue the last 4 years, continue that trend please.

Jace Davis has the potential to be something special I think, big and seems to have the speed to be a game breaker.

Kaman's punts were deadly, if he's able to hit a few more 59 yarders that bounce out of bounds he could be a real weapon.

The new field goal kicker seems pretty decent, better than the last few shaky years.

The TD run Andre Harris had where he ran over one guy and then beat the safety to the pylon was as good of a run as you'll see in a season.

Defensive line could actually be stout up the middle finally, Ceja is a veteran and this Marcus Felkner dude is a crazy huge load... like scary huge.

Askew and Hewitt look to have the potential to live up to the hype, like first team all Big Sky or even greater type potential.

Gunn returning punts looks very sure handed and seems to make the right decision on when to fair catch and when to return.

Very few mental breakdowns which is great to see that has been a frustrating trend in the past, the team just never seemed totally prepared to win. So I will complement the coaching staff for having the team prepared to put it on them for 60 minutes without a let up.

So of course this is all with a grain of salt but to shut anyone out is not easy and although this is a DII team we still thoroughly dominated from start to finish which is the killer instinct I haven't seen in a loooooong time.

We'll see what happens moving forward but this was the best result I could of hoped for so no complaints this week!

Definitely a good beat down. UNC went out and dominated as they should. I agree, I like the new offensive, even though they didn't reveal much today. They pretty much pounded the ball down Adam State's throat. Both running backs looked good. Orms looked good, but still has to work on his touch, he had a couple over throws. Weber State game is going to be interesting. This will be a good gauge to how good we can be this year. The most impressive this to me today was they way they handled the heat today, because it was hot! Goes to show the preparation of the team.

Just finished watching NDSU beat Kansas. Cool to see but I still really hate NDSU so it was a bit bitter sweet.

Another reason why low-ranked Division II schools should never play any Division I school. I don't see how this helps the morale of our team especially when the only thing we got in return was a beat down and nothing more. I just don't understand how Adams State could allow this game to take place. We should've said "no" and forced UNC to schedule someone else.

How about money? That's the only reason we played Purdue, Hawaii and Kansas and will go to Michigan State this season.

Northern Colorado is NOT a Purdue, Hawaii, Kansas, or even Louisiana-Monroe when it comes to athletic wealth. Northern Colorado could easily get $800K from those schools. I'd be surprised if Adams even got $20K from UNC. We are DII, yes, but if I were a DII A.D., I would not take anything less than $250,000 from any Division 1 school no matter the amount of travel involved or their status in their division.
