Wk5 Prediction Thread EWU 34 @ Montana State 17 WINNER!!

I started doing the prediction thread because it was on other boards and it was a fun expression being a fan. As Eastern fans, we all get something out of sharing our thoughts, any knowledge and a homer desire to win. I've picked against OUR team about 4 or 5 times ever in history of the thread and then was wrong at least twice. Eag's win a lot of games. :)

This is a SPECIAL year again for the team. Lots of senior leadership, coaches working together, great depth chart and talent. Am convinced the conference championship runs through Cheney this year in a year of parity in the rest of the conference. Doesn't mean the Eag's can't lose a game but they should be favored in every contest the rest of the way. Would love to say this is a Natty year with certainty, time will tell. The Natty was a MAGICAL year.

Cats have a good physical team, per their own board; may be a bit slow on the edges. The beating the defense took in the CP game undoubtedly left some aches and bruises, but should have also left them with a great sense of accomplishment that will help them contain and ultimately slow down MSU's run game. Expect the Cat's to open up the offense at home, but that is pure speculation. Given we lose the TOP battle and MSU is a better team than CP, this will be a close game where our offensive production is impacted enough to keep the over/under below 70. Outlier factors are penalties and TO's and big plays. Nsimba get's back on track with 2 TD's and 100+ yds, McPherson goes for 125 and a TD as well.

Going low, but Eastern makes this a no doubter throughout the contest.

EWU 53 Cats 21

Cats go on to thump Montana for the third year in a row. Both teams narrowly miss the playoffs, but not before UM destroys Idaho. Idaho continues to spiral out of control and a quarter of the team quit Coach Paul Patrino before next season. Weber and Davis are first round playoff teams, EWU gets the first round bi and marches on down to Frisco.

FTC, FTG, FTV.

Eagles should win as long as they have their heads screwed on straight. As I said before, the game gets hairy if Eastern doesn't play well. But if we come out like we played in the second half of Central or Cal Poly, I think we'll like the outcome.

Hard to say, but I suspect Montana State is about on par with NAU. Good, but maybe not great. They seem more consistent in their play, however, so we are more likely to see them fight for 4 quarters.

I think this will be a slobber knocker type game with both teams trying to lean on each other. Both defenses seem comparable but I think team speed for the Eags is the difference. Hopefully we seem some explosive plays in the second half after we’ve worn them down a little.

I agree Dopa, said another way if we lose it is because we beat ourselves. I have no illusions of a blowout, in fact I expect a dog fight, or cat fight in this cas,. but we should win.
Eagles 45-50
Cats less than 40

I'm almost 40 so my memory is getting fuzzy... but I can't remember the last time we lost to the cats.

Of course I'm half kidding, but also, not. We dominate Montana State. We own the Bobcats. These are things I know.

EWU - 48
MSU - 20

How to make predictions?

"take away reason and accountability"... just saw this the other day and it always cracks me up..

Of course I’m rooting for the Cats and I expect them to compete and make it a good game, but my gut feeling is that EWU is just at a different level right now, they’re just good, plain and simple. Outside of the SDSU game a few weeks ago, this Cats team is always in the game, so I’d be surprised if its a blowout. For the first time in a couple years, the Cats have legitimate playoff aspirations, so they’ll be hungry for this game, a win here puts them on the inside track, and even a close loss isn’t terrible for them. But they can’t afford to get ran out of there, a la SDSU a couple weeks ago.

Eagles will score, but I think the Cats defense will be solid.

Also, I checked out the link above for the game preview, some good info in there, it reminded me of just how often the Cats come up short against EWU.
The stat on Andersen’s passing yds per game is a bit skewed. It’s low, but it’s not THAT low. The stat is taking his yds for the season and averaging it over 4 games, not 2. He played qb in the game 1 win vs Western Illinois and didnt pass much, he broke his left hand and played a combined 5 snaps I believe in the next two games, as a RB with a cast on his left hand (also scored on a 67 yd TD run on one of those 5 snaps). Then he was back at qb last game and they didn’t pass much again because they ran all over PSU.

The kid is a special talent and is simply the best football player the Cats have, the issue is, where do they play him to maximize his impact for the team? So far that’s been at qb since the backups are all very young. If you want to see some differing opinions on how that’s being handled and the various opinions of armchair coaches, you can check out the probably 5+ threads on BobcatNation about where Andersen should play.

I think MSU is as least as good as NAU, maybe better. We’ll have to play a very sound game to beat them at home.

Eagles 31, MSU 28
