WSU (3-3) vs. PSU (3-3) / SAC ST (5-1)

If I were Sac St folks, I would have wished that the Wildcats had won on Thurs. nite; Coach Rahe is finally showing signs of frustration & stating he's got to toughen up this team somehow. Let's hope the right changes can be done & the mad, determined Wildcats knock off the 1st place Hornets!

Your right AlumniWSU...I probably would have preferred you guys getting the win Thursday...then we could have snuck into Ogden and maybe stole a win...Anyway, I think it will either be a close game (which we probably have the advantage) or a semi blowout where you guys win by about 10-15....Of course I'm hoping for the close game, I think we can win the close ones because of our senior back court and overall good free throw shooting. We are deep enough to counter act the altitude (sore subject). Let's get out there and play!!!!!

We played much, much better. We made some mistakes, but we did many things a lot better than the previous two games. We still seem to have some problems with blocking out on the defensive boards and closing out on three point shooters without fouling. It was a much better defensive effort tonight. A few calls going our way and it could have been a different outcome.

Sac played very well and deserved the win. Our learning will continue into next year. I just hope that we continue to learn the rest of this year. Today was a positive step. :thumb:

Sac has the best backcourt that they will ever have. They best win it this year cause it will be a very long time before they have the chance again.

I feel like I should be mad at myself for being disappointed week after week but I keep tuning in hoping to see progress. In comparison to previous games, last night wasn't that bad. There are still some changes I'd like to see immediately.

1st the Seglin pg experience is over. I actually like a lot about his game, he's just lacking the maturity and basketball IQ to run this team. Last night he took 15 shots with 2 assist, at 1st glance that's disgusting for a PG. To his defense he shot 40% which is respectable and I wouldn't mind those shots if he was a 2 guard. It's clear to me that Seglin gets his kicks out of scoring not assist. Rather than continue to be mad at him for being who he is, coach has to acknowledge strengths and weaknesses and adjust. There have been many observations that Jeremey wants to be the man like Dev/Dame, aside from the skills differences His predecessors were actually really unselfish for a go to guys. This time last year we were riding Dev for not being selfish enough. That's the piece Jeremey is missing if he wants to carry the torch.

We also need to move Joel to the 4. I agree with someone's earlier comments that Joel playing the 5 is hurting the team and his chance of playing at the next level (NBA). It's a reality for stars in mid-majors in that the often are forced to play out of position. Think about Dev last year. He played the 3 but after his run he worked out for NBA teams as a pg. We were a good team so it made sense to play Dev out of position, but this year we suck. We should do the right thing and slide Joel to the 4 for his progression. Especially when we have 5's that need the minutes to develop. In my mind a team should be doing 1 of two things, COMPETING or DEVELOPING! We are not competing....

Finally got to watch the game this morning....you guys played us real tough....Bolomboy and Coston played their best games of the year....I think you competed last night....It ended up a close game which I thought we would win with our senior leadership....McKinney and Garrity did what they do consistently, make plays....We didn't get as much from our bench as usual but got a great overall game from Demps....your team definitely played better than they did against SUU or PSU, in fact, if you guys played like this against either of those teams you would of beat them....I liked how Gittens, after intentionally fouling Garrity at the end, immediately helped Garrity up as if to say "Nothing personal, just game situation" ....that was a class move....Good luck the rest of the year....and Tal....we will be back next year, just watch!!!!

51 of 78 came from your two Sr. leaders. It took them four years to become as good and experienced as they are now. You spout far too often about how we were being unrealistic about our team. Now you think you can get away with what you have claim you've been calling Weber fans out for? Wait till your recruits actually hit the floor.

Hugo: Far too much is made of Senglin being out of position at the point. First off, once the offense starts all 3 guards/wings are pretty much rotating. And entry passes into the post come from the wing, not the point. Second, last night Hunter got 16 minutes, most of which were with Senglin on the floor. Which means Senglin was playing the 2 for a good number of minutes last night. Yes, last night he had 2 assists. Thurs night he had 7. And over the two games he had 1, count it, 1 turnover. That's a 9-1 assist to turnover ratio for the past two games. Third, whether you like it or not, he is THE GUY on this team. I see no one else on the team who can play that role.
And as for Bolomboy playing the 4. That means Hajek needs to be on the floor pretty much all the time. Which makes us considerably slower. Last night Johnson-Coston was COMPETING and kept us in the game in the second half.
I saw a lot last night to be happy with. I just hope the team is able to build on it, even though it was a loss. I can see Weber being a team to contend with come BSC tournament time.
Weber did compete last night and just got beat by a better team. McKinney was outstanding in the second half. Step back 3s??? Are you kidding me?? Amazing.
Just think if Richardson and Gittens had been a combined 3-8 from 3 last night instead of a combined 0-8.

Sour grapes?

Only problem with Hunter is his inability to score. When he's on the floor our offense is so much smoother. He is a true, pass first, point. I love his toughness and grit. He reminds me of another really good true point in the Sky (Dylan Garrity). I know Mickinney is their go-to guy but everything runs through Garrity. He is Sac St. Without Garrity Sac would be nowhere near as good or at the top of the conference. That's what excites me about Hunter. He is a great floor general and is so smooth running the offense. The more he plays the better he will become.

On another note. Finally we are starting to see the "amazing" depth we were all raving about this past summer. Coach is playing more guys. The team looked far more comfortable. Now they've gotta build on this performance. Keep getting tougher, gaining confidence, and getting better. I really think Weber needs to start Hayden, Senglin, Gittens/Richardson, Bolomboy and Hajek. Coston has been much maligned all season but that's how he always plays. I love his energy. He is a glue guy. I wish he had better hands. That drives me nuts about him. The ball seems like it's a greased pig. Hill needs to stop worrying and just play and let games come to him. Stop pushing so much. Let the game come to you.

Lastly, loved the last two crowds. Great energy!! Something needs to be done to keep getting the students out. Ambassadors, officers, and Weber Crazies need to keep coming to games. Our team was totally feeding off the crowd. Keep believing. We Are Weber!!

WSUProf... Good post, you said a lot of what I feel just articulated with less frustration. I share a view that may be considered old school in that a players position should be defined in the traditional sense. The PG position is basketballs equal to the quarterback posistion. Some QB's aren't good passers but can run like crazy and complete the short pass. What happens is that defense don't play you honest. Seglin is a good player but if he's going to be our PG for the next 2 1/2 seasons with all due respect to your opinion the leadership aspect extends beyond an assist to turnover ratio. His production has been up and down, which is to be expected from anyone. I think moving him to the SG takes away less pressure and thinking and allows him to play freely as the scorer he is. Because to your point he is our best scorer.

That said when you are losing and your PG is really a SG and your C is really a PF and they're both your best players, one would think you have to figure out a way to play them to their strengths right?

So much butthurt with Tal, epic melt down, epic entertainment.

SSman nailed it. I watched the PSU-WSU replay and WSU played much better against Sac, the better team just won. I didn't think it was going to happen but the senior leadership for Sac prevailed. As far as what happens next year...meh. Hornet fans will enjoy this season no matter how it turns out. Hell of a run so far, hell of a season.

I hope the Weber fan base finds their class, for the most part is has been there but there have been a few posters who are letting this down season get to them. Too much Weber tradition to let one down year get the best of them. Plenty of positives lay ahead for the Wildcat faithful. :thumb:

I want the team to continue to improve as I do beleive the talent is there...... But I'm concerned that if they improved and win the tourney that they could get embarrassed in the NCAA's. Keep improving and build a solid foundation for next year, but stay away from post season play.

I know...... What kind of fan could make that kind of comment? I just think we should finish the year by getting back to our winning ways. A bad lost in post season play could be difficult for the program to overcome!

For the most part SD, I have appreciated your comments and what you add to this forum. However, I would love , and I'm not to interested in getting into a pissing match with you over this, to see where I had this "epic" melt down? I was merely stating facts to SS. He doesn't get to have things both ways. I complimented Katz in other threads as being the second best coach in the conference. I said that the Hornets have the best backcourt in the Sky and, probably in their history and I acknowledge whole heartedly that Weber got beat by a better team on Saturday night. SS, who has been saying since June that Weber's team wont be very good because we lost a lot, suddenly turns around and says that the Hornets will be back next year, after losing Garrity and McKinney. I merely pointed out facts to him. 51 of Sac's 78 points came from two guys. If you look through your season stats, thats a consistent theme. If Mich or Dylan are off, the Hornets are beatable. If they are both off, you lose. If both play well you win. Yes, a couple of role players have done well. Stuteville is a stud and Demps is decent, but both benefit immensely from the attention Garrity and McKinney get. I'll say it now, McKinney and Harvey are the front runners for players of the year. McKinney made some of the toughest shots I have ever seen. He was draped defensively and still hit shots. Garrity is a total stud. He is my favorite player in the Sky. I really think that Hayden Hunter has a lot of his same characteristics. No matter, SS doesn't get the right to say one thing and then turn face and say the same thing Weber fans have been saying with a lot less to go on; especially after the months of his comments. I just caught him being a hypocrite.

On a side note, I did watch the replay last night and the refs made a major boo boo...it was a 5 second call at the end. Would Weber have won? Probably not, but the refs totally missed that one. The young ref who gave Randy a T should receive conference sanctions.

What is worse not makeing to the NCAA's or getting embarrassed? That's a tough one to call. It may be worth it to get to a lower post season tourney like the CIT just to get the extra practice time and game experience.

SSman and SDhornet I like most of your comments. You guys are playing well and I really hope you get to host the tournament. Please don't come on our forum and say that our entire fan base needs to find their class. Yes we have a few nuckleheads but for the most part are a pretty classy bunch.
