#2 EWU at SUU Game Thread

Another unicorn sighting, great stand there. If we can get something going here we're in good shape with getting the ball back after halftime.

wasted possession. need to hold them here and get the ball back. West also needs to stop taking off running.

changed field position.... not wasted.

gotta score when we get a rare TO and get inside their 30.[/quote]

 what is the percentage on 97 yd drives resulting in a score? Glad we finished on this last opportunity. Sweet change of momentum.

I don't think we're going to be scoring 50+ per game with West, but he's made some nice throws so far and can move the offense. I liked what we were doing early on with the running game.Agreed, gotta cut down on the penalties...that, and the one big play by SUU is what's keeping them in the game.

The biggest adjustment needs to be cutting down on the penalties. Defense hasn't played that bad.
defense has played so-so, with the exception of that last drive but at least they were held to a FG. they are getting too many 3rd down conversions so that needs to improve. game will come down to the D's ability to make some plays.

ewu penalties 6 - 60 SUU 0 - 0

the odds?
they have missed some holding on SUU but yes would be nice to see it a little more even sided. hard to believe they did not commit even one penalty.

Honestly believe this is a left coast thing. As a top ranked team the ref's seem to want to keep things close and give the underdog a chance (this is completely misplaced empathy and a crock of sh*t). In the south, the best team gets the benefit of the doubt more often than not, which is also misplaced BS, but would certainly make it easier for Eastern :-) I'll take the latter. Want to beat the best, got to play your best.

West and Bourne have good timing but he needs to get the ball into our other playmakers hands. Kupp doesn't have one reception yet.

he has one catch for 11

Just heard that but the point still stands, their D is going to hone in on Bourne and take that away. He's had Kupp wide open 2 or 3 times and has overthrown him every time so It appears the timing with the other receivers isn't there yet.

It was mentioned this week that West and Bourne will probably have good timing because they both usually run with the 2's. West hasn't had as much time throwing with Cooper so the overthrows are probably part of that.

pretty sure the int JW threw was to a SUU player who came back in from out of bounds, the interference call was on a ball that was way out of bounds and the receiver was OB too. will have to check the replay later, but that was my first impression; homer as it is. both in front of the same back judge. just bored and totally speculating.....
