Hopefully Cal Poly returns all their starting secondary. I'm not opposed to watching the passing clinic again this next year.
We actually do return all four starters in the secondary next year including two that were freshmen. We also return a total of eight starters on defense (we lose our starting Rover, DT and MLB to graduation). The good thing for Cal Poly is that we have a new DB coach. Poly had the talent in the secondary, they were just not coached very well. Cal Poly also landed a three star CB recruit out of Servite who I expect to challenge for playing time as a true fresman.

I am looking forward to the game against Weber State. I think that Cal Poly will give WSU a better game than most here expect.

Cal Poly is always a tough game, but I think the Wildcats are hungry for a National Championship and we also remember what you did to us at home a couple years ago so I think WSU will be ready to take down your mustangs.

It is hard for me to argue with you because we have a whole new coaching staff, but I can tell you that there is still a lot of talent on the Cal Poly roster. I will say that so far I am very impressed with Tim Walsh. I think he was a good coach at Portland State, but he had very limited resources. He has a lot more support at Cal Poly and he and his staff did a great job recruiting. I am looking forward to seeing what he and his staff can do at Cal Poly.

One thing that I am sure of is that the players will remember what WSU did to them in the playoffs and they will be very motivated to return the favor. Should be a great game.

I hope it is a great game! Maybe we will be starting a great rivalry tradition.

I think it would be AWESOME if Cal Poly joined the Sky.
I agree. Unfortunately Cal Poly will only join as a football member because they Big West is an all California conference and all travel is by bus. Unfortunately the Big Sky only accepts full members.

Thats ok, We will trade Sacramento State's Football team to the Great West, and get yours, and their Basketball team to the Big West, and get your guys bball team.

That would be a great trade.

so Weber St, is gonna just roll over wyoming peeps?

sorry, but youre not NDSU, and we dont have shi**y joe glenn as our coach.

We also have one of the best defenses, bringing back John Fletcher, Fred Givens and Mitch Unrein on the d-line, a very solid line backing corp with the soph sensation Gabe Knapton, Whipp, Johson and Hendricks, and our corners will be more experienced with the Gipson brothers, and Prosinski at safety.

Our offense will be suspect, not sure who our QB is, Terry and Davis at rb, questionable wr's, blocking te's, and a questionable offensive line.

But the defense should keep wyoming with the win

Well you obviously know as little about our offense as we know about your defense. We had one of the best offenses in the nation last year - FCS or FBS.

Our QB will be a candidate for FCS MVP next year, he finished 6th in the nation last year as a sophomore, our receiver, Toone, you will hear his name a lot, lead FCS and FBS in receiving yards. You will get to know the name Trevyn Smith too, he'll be attempting 2,000 yards rushing.

Your suspect offense will be the reason....if, you lose to us. Don't pass the ball, we have a good secondary.

By the way, NDSU didn't even make the playoffs last year and we were in the NCAA quarterfinals. The team we destroyed in the first round was the team that beat your buddy San Diego State, this same FCS team also lost to Wisconsin in overtime by 1 point and missed 3 extra points in the game.

I think destroy is a little strong. The team you beat 49-35 put up 32 first downs, 548 yards and 35 points up against your defense. Cal Poly had five turnovers and still scored 35 points. How many teams can do that? Cal Poly only had six turnovers in the previous ten games. Now I am not saying that Cal Poly should have won the game, it was Weber States game from the start. Destoyed no, beat yes.

That being said, I think anyone who plays Weber State next year, FCS or FBS, better button up their chin straps because they are a very good team with a lot of talent and they are very well coached..

Yeah that was a little bit of an exaggeration, we didnt slaughter anybody by any means, both teams had major defensive letdowns, but Slo is right, people who think Weber is just another weak FCS team is in for a rude awakening, Wyoming's defense didnt seem to help them that much last year, and I think Weber has a very very very good chance of beating the Cowboys.

The game could go either way. I think Wyoming will come out on top, but they would be foolish to think they have an easy game on their hands. Especially from a team who got blown out by 29 points to almighty Bowling Green.

Slostang, you weren't supposed to let him know the score, he's from Wyo he would never have known! lol

Well, then, the final piece is in the puzzle. Here is the unofficial 2009 Weber State Football schedule, perhaps the best schedule in the Big Sky, with two FBS opponents, two top 10 foes, and a fifth top 20 opponent:

Sep 5: @ Wyoming (FBS - 122nd in the final Sagarin ratings)
Sep 12: @ Colorado State (FBS - 73rd in the final Sagarin ratings)
Sep 19: ISU
Sep 26: @ PSU
Oct 3: MSU
Oct 10: @ EWU (121st in the final Sagarin ratings, which is 18th among FCS teams)
Oct 17: SAC
Oct 24: @ UNC
Oct 31: @ UM (National Runners-up; #2 in the final TSN poll, #62 in the final Sagarin ratings)
Nov 7: OPEN
Nov 14: NAU
Nov 21: Cal Poly (#10 in the final TSN poll; 97th in the final Sagarin ratings, which is 11th among FCS teams)

All these games are winnable for Weber State, but playing Montana, Colorado State, and Wyoming on the road will be very difficult.

Official Schedule released today:

*Big Sky Conference Game

That schedule seems like the best in the Big Sky. No guaranteed wins against the weaker D2, D3, or NAIA teams. Last years team gained a lot of confidence at the start of the season when they proved they were able to hang and play with the FBS teams (Utah, Hawaii). Hopefully they can build off that confidence this year and win one of those FBS games on the road. Keep in mind that Sac State, 6th in the big sky(3-5 in the sky and 6-6 overall), gave Colorado State all they could handle last year and missed sending the game into overtime when they missed or had a chip shot field goal blocked in the last minute of the game. We'll have to be at the top of our game from day 1 so we can gain some confidence and momentum from the beginning that was so important to last year's team.

Looking at the sched. for your team i still have mixed feelings. I think it very well could be a great sched for you. I think if you beat wyo and maybe co st. or even one team that would be a good start. you should be winning til the montana game which we all know will be a tough one in wagriz. then you get a bye and play NAU. could be a tough game depends on what NAU team comes to town. then you have CP. I could see you losing your last 3 games. i dont think you will but COULD they are all quality. that could put a hurting on when it comes to ranking for the playoffs. Until i see more of CP i cant be sure who would win that one. So right now this is what i think your sched will end up like. (RIGHT NOW, COULD CHANGE IN A FEW MONTHS)

Sat, Sep 05 Wyoming at Laramie, WY 1:00 p.m. -----W or L by 5-10 not sure

Sat, Sep 12 Colorado State at Fort Collins, CO 3:00 p.m. L by 5-10

Sat, Sep 19 Idaho State * Ogden, UT 6:00 p.m. ----W

Sat, Sep 26 Portland State * at Portland, OR 2:00 p.m. ----W

Sat, Oct 03 Montana State * Ogden, UT 1:00 p.m. --- W could be close but i think weber is good.

Sat, Oct 10 Eastern Washington * at Cheney, WA TBA ---- W

Sat, Oct 17 Sacramento State (Homecoming) * Ogden, UT 1:00 p.m. ----W

Sat, Oct 24 Northern Colorado * at Greeley, CO 1:30 p.m. ----W

Sat, Oct 31 Montana * at Missoula, MT 1:05 p.m. ---L (im from montana what do you expect, WILL BE A GOOD GAME)

Sat, Nov 14 Northern Arizona * Ogden, UT 12:00 p.m. W---barely will pull this out. NAU CHOKES

Sat, Nov 21 Cal Poly Ogden, UT 12:00 p.m. - as from what i see right now.....W

I think you will end the season with 3 Loses. no matter if its too the griz and St and wyo or poly or NAU. I think the griz will take the BigSky. bad part for you guys now. is you dont fly under the radar like you did for 3/4 of last year. You will have everyones attention from day one!
