2012 Recruiting Thread

N.B. (nota bene) is an Italian and Latin phrase meaning "note well." It is in the singular imperative mood, instructing one individual to note well the matter at hand. In present-day English, it is used, particularly in legal papers, to draw the attention of the reader to a certain (side) aspect or detail of the subject on hand, translating it as "pay attention" or "take notice."

Having Olive commit early to PSU was a compliment, but at some point PSU will have to fill the seats like Wyoming does, or We'll continually lose players late in the game.

If there was some magic way to get people to the games, we'd do it. Until people realize that these games are worth going to, we're going to keep losing players. And Olive was a good one too.

Nothing helps as much as winning. I really believe that Burton is doing the right things, he has a lot of energy, there is more of a buzz around town even Fred Meyer is going to be selling a little Viking gear it sounds like. Hopefully they will be able to build on last year. I know I was stating the obvious, and preaching to the choir, but we do need more fans to come out.

LO Star Linebacker To PSU

More good news for the PSU Vikings this Sunday Morning. They are landing one of the best scholarship level players in the region. And he is a local kid to boot.

Zach Walen of Lake Oswego was as instrumental to the Lakers success this season as anyone. He showcased his ability to hit, to make plays, and to be a leader at his tight end and line backer roles.

Yesterday he let it be known that he was in fact going to join the Vikings next season. They will likely use the 6'3" 215 pound Whalen as an outside linebacker. With the frame he has there is no doubt he will hit 225 to 240 pounds and not lose a step. Something that should have Viking fans giddy as they look ahead.

Walen joins a host of top in State talent and his team mate Steven Long with his commitment to Portland State.

Zach had some other interest and Big Sky offers but chose to stay home and play locally where his family and friends can see him and where his education will be best suited.

OP congratulates Zach Walen on his selection and his outstanding career at Portland State.

LO's Zach Walen Commits to Portland St

One of the Northwest's top linebackers (Zach Walen 6-3 205 Sr.) of State champion Lake Oswego called us today and said jokingly, " break the story already, im going to be a PSU Vik".

While on his official visit Walen committed to the Vikings, and added to the most dominant recruiting class in Portland St history. Walen put up monster numbers for the Lakers earning first team all state honors from the Oregonian at LB, and first team all state honors by NEI on both sides of the ball (TE/LB).

Walen was a catalyst for a team that finished the 25th ranked team in the country and won their first ever state title. " I took my visits to Eastern Washington and Dartmouth, but I knew this is what I wanted". He continued, " I want to be able to use my Portland ties, and the business school they have here is top notch and that's important to me".

As most people know his father Mark Walen was an All American at UCLA and played in 3 Rose Bowls before his career with the Dallas Cowboys from (1985-90).

Zach's upside is about as high as you are going to get with his long frame and ridiculous wing span. He could potentially be playing very early at PSU and projects an eventual D1aa All American from most onlookers. " Im just really excited and eager to get things started with one of the most up and coming schools in the country". We wish Zach all the success in the world, and look forward to following his college career as closely as we did his high school one.

Breaking News: Top Wide Receiver Adam Winterling Offered By PSU

http://northwesteliteindex.com/articles/jordan/jan12/winterling.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Oregon's Top uncommitted wide receiver, Adam Winterling (6-4 200 Sr. WR) of Jesuit, has received a full scholarship offer to play football at Portland State. The Vikings just don't seem content and continue to try and add to their record setting recruiting class.

Winterling was a first team all league athlete this past season catching 10 + Tds on a team that primarily ran the ball. During the off season he dominated DB's on the camp circuit and earned himself a lot of praise from onlookers. ESPN has him ranked the #6 recruit in the entire state of Oregon, while we at NEI have him listed the #2 senior WR in the state behind behind California bound Maximo Espitia Jr.

Adam now will be deciding between his offer from the University of San Diego and PSU. "The Portland St coaching staff was at my house earlier in the week and made it official today that they were offering me", Winterling said.

San Diego has been putting a full court press on for Adam's services and it's going to be a tough decision regardless. " Its a beautiful campus that sits right on the beach, and Its a very good academic school which is something I'm looking for".

Some wonder if PSU got in the mix to late, but no matter what we will have his decision here first and are looking forward to bringing you the story.

Here is my big preview for Wednesday.
