2013 Recruiting: 17 Verbals

clawman said:
Do we really only have 6 verbal commitments? At the bball game tonight I was told we had 11 commits of the first 18 visits. Lots of BS floating around, but 6 seems pretty light.

Agreed.

Yeah, that wasn't there the other day. Colter must browse here.

Somebody tweeted him that people where giving him some grief around here, so being the reporter that he is, he probably wanted to get some facts checked. Just wondering. Is there a link to any news or interviews with any EWU verbals from any local papers, internet sites, etc.?

Seriously. Is he even a real reporter? The one link I hit took me to a BN article he wrote with zero references to any real publication. The articles from "reporters" around here actually come from real journalists/newspaper guys with links to real publications.

Call him whatever you'd like. Email him and ask him what his official title is and a job description. Maybe just leave a comment on Bobcat Beat instead of trying to put the guy down. All I wanted was a link to some articles from some "real" reporters from "real" newspapers for some information on your recruits.

From his twitter page

"Freelance sportswriter living in Southwest Montana. Produce loads of #MSUBobcats content for the Bobcat Beat website, http://bobcatnation.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ."

I don't think anyone was trying to put him down. The reason people were getting pissed was that he published an article that had a quote from a recruit which stated that our Head Football Coach was interviewing around. Probably something your MSU staff told the kid. The rumor turned out to be exactly that - rumor.

Surely you can see how, either intentionally or unintentionally, publishing rumors is irresponsible journalism that could have an adverse effect on our recruiting. You'd be pissed off too if someone associated with EWU published an article which stated that Coach Ash was interviewing around without any factual basis, wouldn't you? Hello? What don't you guys understand about that?

I think that catattack is using the term reporter loosely. Most "reporters" check their facts before publication or attribution or in this case insinuation. Writing for the Bobcat Beat or whatever is akin to having AlphaGriz1 as the eGriz "reporter" or Screaming as our very own Clark Kent!

I prefer to be compared to Spiderman. :tothehand:

sorry, does no one else have a problem with this Colter Nuenaz character's article that paints our university/region in such a negative light?

Mod Edit - I will try harder not to be a troll on other school's forums.

Troll my ass, truth hurt?????

Grizhunter Edit-The mods should lighten up a little and not act like they are protecting the president, what a joke!!!

Well if he's not a real reporter, or a real journalist, then by a simple syllogism his article isn't real, so what's the big deal?

And he (Colter) has way more connections and clout than AG or SE - would they be allowed in on the Big Sky conference calls, like Colter is? Would recruits give interviews to them? Would players, coaches, and admin?

He isn't just some well-connected diehard fan who writes about his team.

I came over here to see what you guys though of Braun originally, and to see commentary on losing him to MSU. Instead I see you attacking our reporter and accusing MSU of immoral recruiting practices. And then the ol "he wouldn't have played much/we didn't want him (Braun)" line.

Good stuff Eags.

Before joining the Red Zone news room I was a reporter for Tiger Beat.

Again, I'm not putting the guy down. What I said was that it was irresponsible to publish an article that had inaccurate information about a rival program which could be used to the advantage of other schools that are vying for the same recruits. Apparently, Colter agreed, because the article was updated with the correct information.

Let me ask you one simple question - Wouldn't you be pissed off if someone even loosely associated with EWU wrote something which alluded to Coach Ash interviewing with other schools that had no factual basis? It seems you people lack the intellectual capacity to grasp this simple concept, and instead want to chalk it up to sour grapes. I understand you guys wanting to stick up for your guy, but calling him out on this was exactly spot on. Stop looking through a straw.

As far as the immoral recruiting practices, there is no way to prove or dis-prove where the recruit got his information that Baldwin "was already interviewing with a couple of people", but seeing as how he had just come off of a trip to Bozo, don't you think it's fair for people to make the connection that someone within MSU provided him with this information? Again, we will never know, but it certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility, wouldn't you agree?

And I don't think anyone has said we didn't want the kid. We did - it's a loss, we'll move on from it. One recruit does not make a class. What was said is that he probably would not have seen the field next year, which is also a fair assumption seeing as how most Freshman Redshirt anyway. Do you not agree with this?

Truth according to who, you? You demonstrate your low class by coming on here and gloating about flipping one of our recruits and talking shit about our University and you expect us to like it? You don't see any of our fans going on the PSU site and bragging about getting Jake Gall to commit to EWU, who was originally a PSU commit. This stuff happens all the time.

And people on here had every right to be upset about the Colter article - it had inaccurate information in it which was verified by our own HC. :dunce:

Low class Ranger? I offered one man's opinion on the area in which your school resides in. Did not bash, just stated what I have observed as well as other people. So yes that is truth to me as well as those other people. Also please show me where I have ever trolled or talked shit about anyone or any player from EWU on this forum(maybe one slip or so). Then I simply stated the quote from Braun himself in defense of Colter to the poster I was referring to. Then you ban me for a day because of my opinion? Would also love to see where I was gloating as well, you won't find it. :ohno:

I'll be honest, i was putting him down. His original article made it sound like Baldwin was interviewing, including this past year and it put a poor light on EWU. I'm an EWU fan and I'll defend my EWU "family" if needed. If he has such Big Sky connections, he should have known what was going on. Maybe it wasn't bad reporting, but definitely Lazy.

Colter fixed it, good for him, I'm fine with it now. He writes good articles for BN and MSU in general, I as well as others had a specific problem with what was said, but he has fixed it, so its water under the bridge.

As far as Braun, he seems like a good talent, we will find out soon enough. Tough to lose him, but we stole a couple recruits this years too so I'm fine with it. I hope he does well at MSU, too bad he won't have a chance to compete for the national championship, but can't blame the choices kids make...

I had a big response ready to type up for EWURanger, but I lost momentum writing it because I really don't care that much.

Most fanbases would love to have a guy like Colter who writes great articles (his personal stories about the players are great), gets all the scoops, sniffs out rumors for us (true or false), and asks questions we want answered to key people.

I have no problem with a reporter quoting a kid. Calling MSU fans idiots because we disagree that Colter started some coaching rumor himself because he quoted what a recruit said is narrow-minded. In fact Colter went above and beyond in my opinion by fact-checking the recruit's statement after the fact.

Grizhunter - no one gives a rip what your opinion of the region is. I'm sure many people around here have their own opinions about bum-****, Montana, but you don't see us posting them on Bobcatnation.

You are a fool. Yes, the quote came from the recruit, but said quote was included in an article written by HIM. He didn't HAVE to include it, he CHOSE to. A smart reporter would have thought twice about including something with questionable factual basis, whether he was quoting someone else or not. The recruit even cited this as a reason that he chose MSU instead of EWU. It's called spin, and it was in full effect in this article. I agree with Marc. Worst-case it's irresponsible journalism, best-case just very lazy.

Next time I post something that I intended to be funny, I'll bracket it in sarcasm smilies :sarcasm: so that thin skinned bobcat fans don't take offense or even take it seriously ... SE174 or AG1 weren't intended to be examples of reporters (duh) but it did illustrate how little notice or gravitas the rest of the BSC audience will give Colter's work if he continues to have to correct it (and doesn't even have the journalist integrity to note that what he has added is an edit or correction).
