Sounds like a risk for Adams. No telling how fast he can learn Oregon's system, how he will adjust to better opponents week after week and how much playing time he will end up with. At least at Eastern he has a secure stage to show scouts what he can do.
All true, but with Cal Poly traveling to EWU in 2015 I am hoping he signs with Oregon. :D

Sucks for Eastern...if he makes the pros, it'll always say Oregon for his college instead of E. Wash, like Russel Wilson and NC State.

What does he really have to lose, though, honestly? He's already done everything he basically can at E. Wash statistically. The scouts know who he is. He could possibly now go play at one of the premier programs in the country and be on TV regularly, become a household name if he wins the starting job, raise his draft profile. It sucks for smaller schools, but I personally think its a risk worth taking. He could lay up and play the safe route, but he's going for it and taking a risk. I kinda like that.

This has been discussed ad nauseam at CS.com for the last couple of weeks or so. The consensus of EWU fans is that he was just "checking them out" to see what they had to offer and is going nowhere. We'll see how it plays out over the next couple of weeks. There was something about him not even being able to show up to practice in Eugene until the fall anyway, which may tilt him in favor of remaining in Cheney....

It looks like Sam Whitney is real excited about Boise State football which is understandable.. I did not realize he was a 3 star recruit. The only potential hangup is the grayshirt offer...it sounds like he wants to play right away... with a gray shirt you can be out of football for 2 years.. Heres hoping that he is still a Hornet come next Wednesday.

Sam is showing as a verbal to Boise State now. Too bad, but it looks like we've offered some other DE's. We'll see who we end up with come signing day. It should be a good one.

He posted on Twitter that he's recincded his commitment to Sac State. Hope things work out well for him, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him drop down to Sac if things don't go well...

Update from the Press Enterprise of the Inland Empire. Two more IE commits for Sac St. Apparently, the hornets have picked up a commitment from power house, Centennial HS, QB Nate Ketteringham.

QB - Nate Ketteringham

Nice. The kid had some speed to go along with the height.

Ketteringham looks like a stud!!! Plays similar to Safron but bigger, probably not as elusive. Peterson must be salivating!

2015 Signing Day Party, Feb 4th 6:00pm Alumni center. Let's get as many people there as possible to support the new members.
Anybody going to this?

Tomorrow we'll get to hear who signs. Should be an exciting time!

GREAT FIND everyone! :thumb:
Looks like one of the best recruiting class in school history if all of these commits shows up on the list tomorrow.

I seriously don't understand the point of a verbal commitment anymore. It's essentially saying, I commit to your school as long as something I perceive to be better doesn't come along.

Ridiculous.

As for Ketteringham, I just re-watched the Open State game against De La Salle and the kid reminds me of a 6'4" version of Safron.

He split series with another QB and appeared to be the better passer, but is a bit raw as Safron was as a freshman. However, he runs Centennial's read option offense quite well. He had several big runs in that State title game. He's got good potential. Honestly, with his height and apparent athleticism, I'm a bit surprised he hasn't garnered more interest. Perhaps the fact that he split series and only played at Centennial for one season (transferred in from a SD school) were big factors.

Another Folsom kid has backed out of there commit to Sac State. Matt Jimison is now going to Washington State.

Verbals are meaningless until they ink...even then the recruits could probably get out of it if they change their mind. These are 18 year old "kids" making a tough decision, I have no problem with a recruit changing their mind. It is what it is. The Hornet coaches will just reallocate that scholarship to another target recruit and move on.

I wonder if the three Folsom kids were in it together, and once Sam W. changed his mind the others followed. Disappointed about Laolagi. Thought he could be a terror at this level.

On another note, looks like they are changing up the color of the facemasks to white. Saw this today and noticed the helmet, thought it might be grey:

But then this was posted on Coach Kelleys Twitter:

I fully understand that a verbal is not binding. My point is, if a kid is not fully committed to a school - don't give a verbal. What's so hard about remaining uncommitted?

In the cases of Whitney, Laolagi and Jimison, they obviously didn't have any offers from the larger FBS schools but if that's what they were waiting on - a last minute offer - then why give a verbal commitment?

When you do that several weeks before the actual signing day, the school you gave the verbal to is holding a scholarship for you and not offering one to someone else. Now the Hornets have to scramble to offer to someone else that might now be committed elsewhere.

Perhaps I'm old school, but you shouldn't give a verbal commitment unless you are certain that's the direction you are headed. I get that sometimes emergencies or unforeseen circumstances - such as a family member becoming ill - might change things for some kids. But a better, last minute offer coming along is a terrible thing to break a commitment for.

I don't begrudge a kid keeping his options open. That's fine. Simply don't give a verbal until you're certain. That's all I'm saying. It actually used to be that way with recruiting. But the past 10+ years has seen a paradigm shift in that regard. It's really too bad. I, for one, will be impressing upon my son to handle his business a bit differently.

On the academic side most seniors have fallback schools. At FCS this school is considered fallback.

Where scholarships are involved, it is a verbal business agreement. Perhaps a rule where if you hard verbal accept and change your mind then you must automatically RS your first year at the new school.

Most of these guys will ride pine in the FBS, if they really wanted to play they would have stayed.
They really didn't want to be here, so take the less than 110% attitude elsewhere.

I agree, if you can't honor your word like a man, don't verbal and back out. Football is nothing more than character and honor.

I know stars don't count for much, but the posting on HornetSports looks like we hauled in two 3-star recruits and 5 two-star players. This may change through the day as it has in the past though...
