2015 Recruiting

I know stars don't count for much, but the posting on HornetSports looks like we hauled in two 3-star recruits and 5 two-star players. This may change through the day as it has in the past though...
They signed with an FCS school, they are now 1 stars.

I did not think we had that many scholarships available for this upcoming class. I thought we only had 18 to 20 seniors on the club last year. We do know Vercher and McDade left the program... Did anyone else leave the program?

Ernie Timoteo could be a huge steal! 2-star with offer from CAL. He's 6'2" 220 and can pound the rock...

I just counted 30 players listed on the Hornets Sports page as signing today. I'm guessing some of Sperbeck's recruits may have left the program as Sears puts his stamp on it.

**Update** Finished with 31 new players. Gonna be a very young team

This is going to get interesting....

Interesting indeed, a very large class so far. Unless things have changed, FCS can split their 63 scholarships between as many as 85 players. So if recruits can find other scholarships (academic or other athletics like track) then it can add up to a full ride.

The roster usually isn’t updated until spring camp. We did graduate a fair amount after last season:
QB: 3, Safron plus McDade and Vercher left
RB: 1, Kellermann
TE: 1, Broadnax
WR: 2, Carter and DePalma
OL: 2, Neilson and Wallace
DL: 4, Castillo, Castro, Cowger, and Totty
LB: 2, Fernandez and Fifita
DB: 4, Alcala, Kendall, Peterson, and Sellers

So 19 known to have graduated/left and 31 listed as incoming makes a difference of 12. Given the amount of incoming OL maybe that is where most of the turnover will be?

Looking at the Sacramento Bee, the Dung Pile did not sign one local guy. Great looking class so far. Hornets did over sign. I would expect some of these guys to grey shirt. Looking forward to tonight.

Sac State signed 8 locals, Poly 1, UC Dungpile 0

Sac State is truly Sacramento's Home Team!

Go Hornets!

Looks like the number is up to 32, got a late transfer. Jordan Thomas, a three-star DB from Inderkum who was at ASU last year transfered home. http://sports.yahoo.com/highschool/football/recruiting/player-Jordan-Thomas-148268" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

BTW, coach Kelley posted this pic of all the uni combos this upcoming season

We will have a young team in some areas but the upside on many of these recruits is better. Glad to see some strong talent!

Terrance Jackson from Santa Monica seems to be a nice catch for the Hornets. He was getting a lot of attention from other schools in fact he was considered a 3 star recruit. He had offers from bigger schools but chose to be a Hornet. Looking at his highlights he seems to be quick off the ball and able to make plays in the backfield. He had 15 sacks his senior year. He should be a productive defensive end for us.

I know most schools, particularly in D-I, don't bother anymore due to the expense, but if we have THAT much talent that some are being shown the door, would anyone give thought to keeping some frosh/sophs around to form a JV team? A JV team could play a limited schedule against local JCs and even serve as the scout team during practice. There's a small college in Kentucky right now that has one. We could probably do the same. A JV team with a limited schedule against local JCs (probably Sac City, AR, CR, Sierra, Delta, etc.) could be just the thing to bolster our program.

Another dumb SH idea? Maybe. It just might work, though....

It looks like the Hornet got another commitment. He is a big wide receiver from Southern California. Isiah Spencer-Lopez is 6'6" and also played basketball in high school. It appears he was attempting to hold out for a Pac 12 scholarship. From the looks from his highlights it seems like he would be a great red zone receiver.
