2016/17 schedule

If the problem is paying someone enough to come to the Dee, why not go play some Power 5 games at their houses for a good payday and turn around and use that payday money to bring in someone to the Dee....doesn't sound too hard to do...at least you guys have a house large enough to bring in a big crowd to offset whatever it costs to bring someone in...We usually play 2 Pac12 teams at their places every year for big paydays, but we don't have the facility to bring anyone in and expect to break even, you guys do....

I agree with that logic. It seems like it should work. We really want home and homes with other D1s. If we have to pay another D1, it would be like a home and home, except that the teams we would be targeting would rather lose to that same PAC12 school than lose to us. We might be able to use the money to get a couple of those 300+ RPI teams to our place, but that wouldn't really help our own strength of schedule. We have tried to do that with the Wyomings and Colorado States of the world, but they look at it as an automatic loss that will hurt their RPI. It might work if we paired the home and home with a payout as well. I think we are just going to have to do everything and anything to get the job done. It's going to take a crap load of work and I'm not sure that we want it on our head coach, like it is now. :coffee:

Tougher conference schedule for ISU and Weber this year: I'm told that teams we play only once are at Sac and PSU, and home against NAU and SUU. Last year we played Montana, Idaho and EWU, three of the top six teams in the league, only once. (Plus MSU)

I'll take that schedule. Montana, Idaho, Eastern, State all draw bigger crowds to the Dee. Also, I hated that Montana fans, understandably so, said that Weber's outright regular season championship wasn't legitimate, since we didn't play in Missoula. But, I thought that Weber had to play SUU twice every year?

I think you got some bad info...we only played you and Weber once in 2014-2015 season...don't think they would do that again for quite a few seasons...

Can't be that far off, Sac, there are only 11 other teams in the league and you're only playing once against four of them every year.

I seem to remember that we would always be playing our travelling partner twice. That only leaves 10 options for the single game, and if you eliminate the 4 you just had, that only leaves 6 options. By my calculations, it will sometimes be every other year for some and every third year for some. It really does suck rotten potatoes. However, it is what it is, and some will be lucky and some won't. Winning championships is still all about winning on the road and almost never losing at home.

As for UM feeling hard done to this past year, They had their chance to beat us when Joel was out with the knee injury and couldn't get it done. They had another chance to get us on a neutral site and couldn't get it done. They had a chance at tying, but lost on their home floor to Northern Colorado. If they are spewing sour grapes, they are delusional. :wtf:

Back to WSU's insanely weak home schedule and even weaker excuses, Montana has a home and home this next year with Wyoming of the Mtn West. http://www.egriz.com/grizboard/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=73589
So now what is Weber's excuse?
Oldrunner, i want to hear how you spin this one..

What I heard was that Wyoming told them that they would never play at UM again. They told us a similar thing when they played here a few years back. My guess is that Wyoming is in a similar situation as us. They don't want to play at any BSC venues, but are finding that they must do it to get any kind of home schedule. Who really wants to go to Laramie when chances are good that you might lose. Their RPI is not that good. :coffee:

Please STOP making excuses for WSU's poor home schedules as they seem to get worse every year.
Since you want to talk RPI though:
Wyoming 185
Denver 194
Portland 250
UVU 274

seems like a huge upgrade to me to play Wyoming instead of those slappies :twocents:
But on the bright side WSU went undefeated in the Cascade Collegiate Conference(CCC). Last year...
So basically they were Big Sky and CCC Champs last year. HELLS YEAH!!!

Olds, a little advice from a compatriot! You need to get a little more objective about the state of Weber basketball scheduling. The school, whomever is doing it, is doing a piss poor job of building a good schedule, especially at home. You are never going to convince anyone that they are doing the best they can and that they are trying to build a stronger schedule. If they are trying, whomever is trying, is incompetent. There is no doubt that anyone with average brain power and just a modicum of skill could do a better job of scheduling than Weber has done in the past few years. It is not getting better either. It is getting worse. So quit trying to make excuses for them please. It doesn't become you...

I am not disagreeing with anyone here. I'm just pointing out what I know to have happened. I agree that the home schedule was bad last year and has been getting worse over the last 5 or 6 years. I agree that more needs to be done to improve it. I agree that Randy should not be saddled with scheduling, like he is now. Weber is not alone in any of this.

Personally, I would like to see our AD hire some interns from the Technical Sales Dept to tackle the issue. They could work on it all year long and do a little 'outside of the box' thinking. As it is now, Randy doesn't even start working on it until summer. He is too busy with everything else until then. I just think that it is too much to pile onto the head coach and we don't get the results that we need. Randy could still be involved in the process, but on a different level than he is now.

Always glad to see Weber compete in these pre-season tourneys, they are good for helping getting used to playing on a neutral court now that the Big Sky tourney is neutral.

Also of note, the interesting possibility of another Weber State vs Drake pre-season tourney game, this would be the third in the last few years, twice in Alaska, setting up a nice little preseason tourney rivalry

Oakland (Horizon League) in the latest add to the tournament field. Their SOS and RPI are typically solid for a mid-major.
