2016 Recruits

Jolly is rated at 4 stars per Rivals.....pick your own rating service.....Lowell is rated as one of the top 50 centers or better on every service....I know, I know, you don't need him...OK...BTW, according to verbalcommits Cal has an AVERAGE star rating of 3.458...you don't get those averages recruiting 2 star players.....and olds....I never said Cal had offered or had him in for a visit...I guess that one eye of yours doesn't read so good....

Well...Shit, he is a 4 on Rivals.

So...back to what really matters.

Wyatt Lowell...Good luck to him on his mission and at UVU.

Now onto more important matters...2017 recruiting and the 2015-16 Basketball Season. Recruits...what do we really know. Last I checked a 2 Star recruit is one of the top NBA PG's and a whole bunch of 4 Star guys aren't even playing anymore.

TAL, you are still such a tool.

As for Wyatt. Doesn't look like a four star too me.

One aspect of some of the rating systems is if someone gets some interest from a Big 5 conference school, their rating goes up.

To be totally fair, I don't think the rating services even see half the players they rank and obviously they never see very many of the players they don't rate.....Have any of you ever seen a player rated as a 1 star??? What I'm getting at is; I can understand a kid not getting rated but the lowest rating should be a 1 star, not a 2 star....I firmly believe that the rating services use a dart board for all but the top 100 to 200 players....

I saw that, as well. I don't think you should read too much into that. I would be surprised to see us sign this young man to a grant. Over the years, we have seen players listed on that site who turned out to have other sorts of offers besides a scholarship offer. We all know what our needs are and who we have to replace on the roster over the next year or two. I think it is most likely that we use one of our 2017 grants on a point guard. Nothing against this kid, it's just not what we are after. Unless there is something there that I am not seeing, I say it is a walk on offer. :twocents:

I'm thinking that Randy will sign, possibly 1 this spring (a big) and in all likelihood two, possibly three this Fall. 4, if he gets an automatic mission kid.

I don't know who our top recruits are, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that our top guys are D'Shawn Schwartz SG/SF -- 4 Star Kid from Colorado, Saban Lee PG -- 3, Darien Jackson SG -- 3, Samuta Avea SG -- 2.5, Nigel Shadd PF -- 3, Tyler Bey PF -- 2.3. We have also offered, Trevin Knell SG (kid is one of the top recruits in Northern Utah at Woods Cross, automatic mission), Joseph Vranic SF (he's 6-9, preps at Wasatch Academy), Ben Rigby SF (Davis High, didn't have the best JR campaign, automatic mission), Sebastian Much SF (I think his stock is going to explode), and Walter Prevost (has a lot of potential).

Rahe already has Riley Court, who could arguable be the biggest MISS by the biggies in Utah. Absolute gem who has another year on his mission. But just to remind you all, he was highly underrated because he was at Pleasant Grove and not at Lone Peak http://www.deseretnews.com/sports/high-school/player/137228/1/Riley-Court...Pretty good. He also played on the same AAU team as Cody John and a whole handful of other DI kids, he was the top scorer and defender. He also, isn't a bad rebounder and facilitator. GEM in the rough!!

I know that through the year Cannon was a little erratic at times with turnovers and such, but what he showed in the game against Xavier and having John as the second point I believe that position is set. What about Jefferson and or Williams is there no confidence in them.Juan did show flashes of being a scorer at times and clearly he has the potential. So to me one more big would be what we would need.

http://www.standard.net/Weber-State...ketball-2015-16-season-review-randy-rahe.html

We’ve got one scholarship and we’re going to go find a post player — a four man that can really do the four and the five,” Rahe said. “We’re going to get one this spring somewhere. We need more depth in the post.”

While finding another big man is undoubtedly a point of emphasis for the offseason, Verbal Commits reported Wednesday the Wildcats extended an offer to Kansas prep point guard Jerrick Harding, begging the question of imminent changes to the current roster.

“Right now no,” Rahe said. “There could be something that could come up. I’ll meet with every kid that’s coming back and we’ll talk about where they’re at and their futures. Something might change, but I don’t see a drastic change in the roster. You never know, some kids might want to play more and something could happen. Right now, I don’t foresee it.”

What does anyone know about the status of Jeremiah Jefferson? It seems to me he came in to the program with big expectations and has now lived thru a redshirt year where I heard he was doing great in practice and a RSFreshman year where I expected great things from him and he never even got one meaningful minute in the whole season. Whats up with him? Is he a total bust and if so, why would he still be on the team? Any chance he will transfer? Looks like there is a long line of guards playing ahead of him. Maybe he isn't big enough to play off guard or wing and is not adept at running the point also? What's the story?

My thoughts would be he's a freshman and has older, better players ahead of him. If he was better than someone else I'm sure Rahe would have played him more.

Here is what I see in Jefferson. He is a good player, a good student, a great young man, and is from a great family. He had some physical and health problems last year and red shirted. He improved a great deal over the summer and had developed to the point that the coaches would have been confident about playing him. The problem was that he was the seventh guard, when Randy plays only five or sometimes six guards. Barring injuries, that situation would not change much next year. My feelings are that the coaches want to keep him around and feel that he can still contribute in the future. However, they would understand completely, if he were to become frustrated and ask for a release. He will be a RS-SO next year. He would have a lot of options if he were to choose to leave. Personally, I like the young man and hope he chooses to stay. He is a high level athlete and scorer. He has the potential to be a good defender. To crack the rotation, he would need to become more consistent and make fewer mistakes. He is a wing player and, as such, is a bit undersized. He makes up some of the deficit with his athleticism, but still can be pushed around if the other team isolates him in the post. With all of that said, he could play for most BSC teams and would probably start for a few of them. :coffee:

I'm sure they are pursuing at least one of these transfer bigs after Rahe's comments. Plus most likely a focus on securing 2017 bigs, particularly landing Shadd and/or Bey. Just a couple weeks until the ncaa live periods begin and recruiting really starts heating up.

I would never say never, in relation to the possibility of us taking in a transfer. However, I think it is highly unlikely at this point in time. It would need to be a perfect fit and a highly skilled player. Also, he would have to have a strong desire to be a Wildcat. I look at that transfer list often, and nothing has jumped out at me. I have a feeling that our coaches would know about a potential transfer long before they would show up on that list.

It is far more likely that we will end up with a prep school grad or a foreign academy grad this spring.

I have a feeling that we have already been contacted by potential transfers. However, I think we would know if any offers had been extended or accepted.

We are looking to replace Joel's roster spot. It will be with a combo big man. If anyone else were to be brought in, it would be due to someone transferring out, and that has not happened. With the signing period only two weeks away, I think we would have heard of any transfers by now, and we have not. I think we will sign only one this spring. Unless something unforeseen happens, we will not be signing any transfers. :coffee:

Bengal V.;

You should get your coaches on Jared Stutzman. He is back from his mission next week and is shopping for a school. He was the Idaho POY in 2014. He was released from his letter to USF.

Why wouldn't Weber be interested in Jared? We were pretty high on him before his mission. The only certain thing about college sports is change and although we only have 1 spot now, we don't know who is going to want to leave for a chance to play elsewhere.

They are well aware of Stutzman. Unfortunately I'm told he is being recruited by Utah and Utah State, which makes it highly unlikely he'll be going to a Big Sky school.

I'm thinking that Jefferson's chance will come his junior and senior years. Unless something changes, I can't see him getting anymore playing time next year, but once Senglin and Gittens graduate, playing time will open up at the 2 and 3. And potentially, Jefferson could become a starter his senior year since Baker and Richardson are a year ahead of him. Based on only the little I've seen and heard of him, I think that he could be a solid contributor down the road. I hope he sticks around.
