2020 Offers and Commitments

Judging by what I am seeing out in the twittersphere, It certainly looks like our coaches are out overturning every rock and peering behind every tree in the western US, looking for diamonds and gold. It also looks as though they are finding just what they are looking for. A lot of O Line prospects, WRs, LBs, DLs, and TEs. Just as interesting is what we are not seeing, DBs and RBs. We must be confident in what we have returning at those positions. :notworthy: :notworthy:

I have heard about the returning missionary QB. Does anyone know who the other RMs are and their positions?

Recent signees not on the current roster - Not sure if all of these are missionaries or when they might return.

I’m a little biased here since this is my alma mater but this kid is a baller. 1400 yards and 18 TDs last season. I’ve seen him play in person and the size, speed, and hands are legit. This would be a huge get for us. I know he has an offer from SUU too. I expect some bigger schools to come along soon though.

He's tweeted that he's received offers from Southern Utah, Army, Northern Colorado, Air Force, South Dakota St, Penn, New Mexico St, Abilene Christian, and Northern Arizona. Some of those go back to before the season so don't know if they're still all on the table. Either way, looks like he'd be a great get for Weber.

I agree. This kid looks like the real deal. We have a commitment from another one who is taller and just as athletic, and yet another 3 star also still on the table. All of these kids are great. I think we only lost one or two WRs to graduation, so I'm not sure how many might be signed, but I like them all. I still feel that we bring in at least 3 OLs, 2 DLs, 2 LBs, and 1 QB. I also think there will be a number of PWOs on our final list.

In looking at the two QBs on our list, it is clear that Hagen has the stronger arm and may be a bit faster. However, this Graff kid is a strong, shifty runner and is an accurate passer out to about 45 yds. Graff compares well to what we had with Cantwell. Hagen looks like an upgrade. Maybe we take them both, if we have the chance. The big limiting factor here is the lack of grants available. :coffee:

FYI, the BYU QB in the transfer portal "Critchlow" will be making a visit to Weber soon. Sounds like the coaches are aggressively trying to find a better QB!

Critchlow's father played at Weber so there's a connection there. Also, he started out at SUU before BYU poached him while on his mission, so I think dropping down to FCS wouldn't be an issue with him.

How much eligibility does he have left? Can he run? Would he be participating in Spring ball? Is he better than anything we have coming back or coming in?

I'm not being sarcastic. Those are the things I would like to know. I don't know that much about the kid.

Critchlow would be a redshirt Junior so 2 years to play 2 seasons. Originally he signed with SUU before his mission. I believe he was a PWO at BYU started a handful of games when the starter was injured then was benched when BYU opted for a more mobile backup QB. He is not likely to be a dual threat QB.

Also I have not seen any indication he is considering Weber, just a bunch of fans thinking he would be a good fit for our program.

We lost no receivers to graduation. WR depth is good, but could be better. Remember these signees may not see a down of football for 2 or more years, especially if they are mission kids.

here is Critchlow's HUDL. He really throws some ducks, and this is on a highlight video.

Critchlow has already scheduled a visit to Weber in early February. That is not wishful thinking, it is a fact. I personally saw on video what "Runner" expresses here. In addition, he is not a consistently accurate thrower, has good footwork but is very "slow footed" and thus is not a "dual-threat" QB and has average arm-strength at best. I do think he would be a slight improvement over Constantine but not enough. In studying the film of Bronson Barron (incoming return missionary) he is everything that Critchlow is not. Of all the QB's on the roster last season he is the best. I think he may have a chance to start at some point during his freshman season unless Weber finds someone better from portal or JC. I think Barron has a chance to be a very special QB.

I think that the competition for QB will be wide open. Jenks and Weiser will certainly be in the mix, as well as Barron and any other QBs we bring in this recruiting class. I guess, If you are going to start an inexperienced QB, it's best to do it with a veteran team around them. It will certainly be an interesting spring and summer. If we get improvement along the O line it will help a new QB tremendously.

Not that the line is full of all american players, but we only gave up 22 sacks in 15 games. We had an above average running attack despite a complete lack of a passing threat. So while the line might add some depth I don't see a signing on the O-line making an impact in 2020. Weber only lost one starter and should be getting back Tyler Downs so I expect them to be a year better across the board.

I don't see any QB on the roster or on the horizon who will be all conference next year. I think Critchlow might be serviceable and possibly better than Constantine. I still think Jenks will get the nod unless Weisser makes a big leap forward.

Glad you have inside info. Anyone else you can tell us that is making a visit?

There will be a group of recruits here this weekend. Many of the guys that are on our list and maybe a few more. They will be at the BB game tonight.

It wasn't just sacks I am judging by. It's the hurries and the lack of a running game whenever we played a team with a good D line. Yes, we had a few good running games, but none against any of the better teams we played. There were many, many, many times where our QB would take a three step drop and immediately have someone in his face, forcing a quick throw. There really should have been more turn overs and sacks. It's a testament to the QBs that they were able to manage it at all. :coffee:

“This weekend I am taking an official to Weber State. I am not sure about others yet. There are three schools that want me to visit, and Kansas wants me for track.”

With the trip this weekend, what has you excited about the official to Weber State?

“I have some buddies that play up there. The coaches are cool there. I want to see their facilities and learn more about the academics.”
