The only person who truly has insight into the program is Sting. He may be rough around the edges and doesn't tolerate fools but he knows the program and isn't often wrong. Fact is, Colter drops stuff in this page to further his agenda. Just a little research and he would have found a much better thread.Fine, Colter wins - hope you guys enjoy his insights every week.
I don't disagree, just not sure why Sting needed to go so hard in the paint. But that's his call and his right, I know I've done it plenty of times over the years. Truth is I good a good laugh when I saw the "Title/subtitle" text in the Slater vid.The only person who truly has insight into the program is Sting. Hey Colter, my link says the video has been removed. Is there a new link? Thanks!Imagine getting this mad at a simple editing mistake...
Thanks for watching the video. We have a brand new content producer who missed that slide, but I edited it out and updated it. Thanks for the help!
Also, thanks for the wonderful personal message as well. Your positivity is apparent.
Thank you OSH. Glad you enjoyed it.SD...first of all, thank you for all of the time and effort it took to do the season projections. Secondly, I thought your analysis was spot on.
Both Montana State and Fresno State have had huge changes in their coaching staffs. It will be interesting to see how the disruptions affect their focus and production.
Looking forward to another great season.
Keep up the good work!
So only 1 loss OOC, so who do you have being beaten SJSU or Fresno?2024 Outlook
The 2024 season kickoff is just a few weeks away as the Hornets look to embark on another season in pursuit of a 5th straight postseason appearance under 2nd year Head Coach Andy Thompson. The Hornets were picked 8th in the FCS in the Stats Perform preseason poll and picked to finish 5th in the BSC in the coaches and media poll.
Offensively the Hornets return a lot of key components from last season’s playoff run. At the helm will be quarterbacks Kaiden Bennett and Carson Conklin. It remains to be seen how Associate Head Coach Bobby Fresquez will split time between the two, but it is expected that both will be on the field very often. There are many talented targets that these quarterbacks will throw the ball to. At wide receiver the Hornets have a mix of returning players and incoming transfers to power the passing game in Jared Gipson (All-BSC), Anderson Grover, Devin Gandy, and incoming transfer Makai Cope. Coleman Kuntz (All-BSC) returns at tight end along with incoming transfer Jay Rudolph.
On the offensive line, the Hornets return 3 starters, including guard Jackson Slater (FCS All-American, All-BSC, center Nathan Mejia (All-BSC), and tackle Aiden Meek with some experienced players looking to earn a starting role. In the backfield, the Hornets return running backs Elijah Tau-Tolliver and Ezra Moleni.
The Hornet offense has the experience and talent to be more than capable of moving the ball and putting up points. The key thing to watch this season will be how Coach Fresquez handles the quarterback workload/rotation and if he can put together a game plan that is capable of putting this team in a position to win in the big games.
The Hornet defense will have a lot of starting roles to plug this season, fortunately there are a lot of returners with experience that will be vying for those openings. Transfer linebacker Will Leota (all-BSC) was brought in to shore up the defense. Oge Feo is the other returning linebacker with the most significant playtime at this position. The defensive line will see all new starters this season with Brandon Knott, Xavier Williams, and Mason Brousseau seeing a lot of action in the interior last season. Ben Ahio and Josh Cashiola saw significant action last season at defensive end.
In the Hornet secondary, nickelback Gavin Davis-Smith is the lone returning starter but a handful of players saw action last season as well as players returning from injury and incoming transfers. Safeties Eian Moore and Davion Ross will be in the mix after missing all of last season with injury along with transfer Murvin Kennion III and Anta’Veon McKenzie who saw significant action late in season last year. At cornerback, Zelmar Vedder, Patrick Dean, and DJ Houston saw action last season at cornerback and newcomer Phoenix Rose being a highly touted recruit.
Lots to watch for on this side of the ball as the question is who will step up and make their presence known. Not a lot of starters return but a lot of players who notched a lot of minutes will be stepping into starting roles. The defensive philosophy has been a “bend but don’t break style” under Thompson and I don’t think that will change this season.
Special teams returns all the specialists this season. Punter Cal McGough, kickers Zach Schreiner and Evan Kiely, and long snapper AJ Campos are looking to continue building off of a solid performance a year ago. Another solid season from the specialists should be expected.
The 2024 schedule features a 12 game slate with only 5 of them coming in Hornet Stadium and 4 of the first 5 on the road. The Hornets open with back to back FBS games which will be a physically challenging start. The bye week is well positioned after the road heavy first half of the season. The final month of the season features the Hornets only leaving California once with the final regular season game being the Causeway in Hornet Stadium.
This Hornet program has proven its strength and resolve over the past 5 years that every game on the schedule is winnable and anything less than 8 wins and a playoff appearance is failure. There are only a few games in which I wavered on picking a Hornet win (SJSU, FSU, MSU) but as we saw last year, the Hornets cannot afford to overlook anyone on the schedule.
My prediction is 10-2 (7-1 BSC) in route to a share of a BSC title and a berth in the playoffs.

Week by week breakdown will be posted sometime before the first game.
Stingers Up!
SJSU. This game is a toss-up for us, but I don't know anything about what incoming Coach Niumatalolo is implementing. So only 1 loss OOC, so who do you have being beaten SJSU or Fresno?
I didn’t complain about our media coverage. It’s actually pretty good locally. I think we should HIGHLIGHT it and not highlight a hack posting an interview from media day weeks later that was hastily edited and put together using default graphics from the program they are using to edit. The State Hornet was using these graphics 9 years ago.Thank you OSH. Glad you enjoyed it.
Also I should add that Coulter has done a tremendous job with his media outlet. He started it from scratch, and created his own niche geared towards the Montuckies (because yes, that is where the money is in the FCS). Personally I don't consume much of it, mainly just whatever Sac State themed articles come across my feed, but his coverage and product has only improved over the years. His coverage of the BSCT in Boise is second to none. Coulter, if you're still around, thank you for your coverage of our lowly programs and keep up the good work. You and your team should be proud of what you've built, don't let the haters get you down.
To anyone bitching about our media coverage, feel free to start your own outfit or just accept the afterthought coverage from the local media that we'll receive. Hell, our Hornet athletic media folks aren't even competent enough to post/link 2023 football game photos on Hornetsports. It is what it is at this point, but in this day and age of having the technology and outlets to generate independent outlets, nothing is stopping anyone from generating Hornet-centric content.
No, but your fat ass, rude, bully pie hole certainly has spoken. But the board has spoken.
I was just going off of roster analysis and haven't listened to media on SJSU's outlook. I looked at some of those incoming transfers but didn't see any significant stats, but I could have missed something. SJSU's success really hinges on one of their QBs stepping up and I don't recall seeing any with significant experience.Interesting. I saw it was a 7 pt spread. Hard to say with both teams losing a lot of players but I think too many podcasts and writers are selling SJSU short. They lost a lot of guys but also brought a ton in. Got a stud RB from Grambling, WR’s 6 deep with Nash and Lockhart, plus Hurry from Weber and a kid from Univ of Alabama. Should be a good game and Hornets could certainly pull an upset but I’ll call for a 14 pt win for SJSU. But that’s why they play the games, thanks for the reply
Anyone is welcome to post links to articles/videos from any media source pertaining to Hornet FB (or any other program), not really sure where you are going with this issue.I didn’t complain about our media coverage. He calls it spread and shred offense. They have a QB decision to make it appears because they are good but also both lack game time experience from what I’ve read about sjsu.SJSU. This game is a toss-up for us, but I don't know anything about what incoming Coach Niumatalolo is implementing.
I guess we should be worried—got a JC transfer mid season. Not a ringing endorsement of the QB room
