A little NAU revenge - 2/26/2011

sounds like NoCo got approval to Host it at a smaller site than is allowed in the BSC bylaws.
Should be interesting with NoCo required to offer up a sizable allotment of prime seating for the visitors. The tickets lately have been $25 a game or $44 for All-Tournament pass.

WSUnPurple, do you know if students get in at a discounted rate?

Yes, students are around $8 or $10 a game, give or take a few bucks

If we win the regular season this year's Big Sky Championship will absolutely be held in Butler-Hancock. Budweiser Events Center was a possibility LAST YEAR because of renovations to Butler-Hancock Athletic Center, which had us down to three working locker rooms and hardly any area for press or hospitality.

Also got this nugget today: Roxy Bernstein and Miles Simon will be doing the game for ESPN2, and Ted Robinson and Steve Lappas will handle the game for Westwood One.

And I agree with an earlier poster. Butler was amazing Saturday night. When Taylor ripped down the rebound in the final minute, it was louder than ANY arena I've ever been in, including Hearnes Center for Missouri-Kansas ...

Scott, can you clarify what the by-laws state the arena size should be. I know WSUinPurple is wrong, but, it wouldn't hurt to settle the issue...

Sac St., and Portland St. signed agreements when they entered the league that they would not be able to Host the tournament on their home floor, until they built new arenas. No such arrangement was made with NoCo., I found out today. Lick yourselves Bears fans, hear is to hoping that some way, some how you guys lose tonight.

Looking at the code, the Big Sky places no restriction on arena size for hosting the Men's Basketball Championship. There is a financial commitment that the host school must meet, but I won't include that number here. Because of that commitment some schools (Portland State in 2008) have decided on hosting at bigger venues in an attempt to sell more tickets and meet the commitment. As far as I can tell, that was not because of any agreement ... it was because they felt like they would be unable to meet the commitment with their seating capacity.

I can say this confidently: there's no by-law in regards to arena size. I can't speak to any arrangements being made between certain schools and the league.

Interestingly, the code states that if the regular-season champion doesn't want to host (for any number of reasons) they can forfeit the right and the rights transfer on down the standings. That would stink.

I'm Sorry, lick yourself BearsRadio, only

There is in fact an agreement in place with Sac, and PSU. They have no choice in the matter in regards to hosting at home. They were required to sign it as part their agreement to join the conference.

I'll stick up for Troy, here, and say I can't find mention of that anywhere in the Big Sky Code. I would think any agreement like that -- one that dictates that seven of nine schools can play championship games at home while two have to have them on a neutral floor -- would be included in the Code.

That's just me, though.
