Athletic Director Candidates

Assume that Nelson had a huge stack of applications on his desk for this position. Pretty much count on that.

So we heard all about the top 4 that made it to the final selection.

Mark Orr made it all the way to the top of that stack and is our new AD.

Very impressed with his credentials and what he did at Div. I St. Mary's who has a basketball program that is nationally ranked and only had a few losses this year, two of which came at the hands of Gonzaga who is in the Final Four.

Like this process and what the short term and long term future this might mean for Sac State athletics.

And like how the young Mr. Orr wants Sac State athletics to improve right away and will be looking for him to keep to his word.

He comes from a successful athletic program and will expect the same from the Hornets who have had a lot of success but needs new facilities and championships in football and basketball.

The thing I find disturbing about this hire (and, admittedly, it's rather minor) is that he comes from a school that recently dropped football. I would hate to see him try to pull THAT over on us....

Genius...Wickstrom was never in it. I never said Massari would end up with the job...I said he was my first choice. I trust that President Nelsen made the best choice for the program. I know you think you know more than Nelsen, but you don't. I bet he was really relieved when you stopped by his office and told him he didn't F*** it up.

Yeah guy makes it to the final round of the interview process and "was never in it". Ok.

Like I said, nobody needed to tell Nelsen to not fvck it up because he wasn't going to...and he didn't. Massari or Orr were the top candidates and either one would have been a good pick. We get that you are butt hurt that a Hornet FB alum was passed over for the job, but get over it. Orr is a good pick with proven success at a name school.

Also Massari has a shot at the SJSU AD spot and we were never going to outbid them if they decide to go with him.

I'm looking forward to the Orr era.

"Nobody needed to tell Nelsen to not fvck it up because he wasn't going to..."

"This hire will show exactly how serious Nelsen is about athletics. Let's hope he doesn't f**k this up."

Both of these statements were made by the exact same moron.

I don't pretend to know more than Nelsen or Volek regarding the choice. I had a favorite horse in the race for personal reasons but I'm not arrogant enough to pretend I could do their jobs better than they do. You make it clear in a redundant fashion that you think you know more than everyone else in the athletic department as you hide behind your keyboard. That is exactly why I continue to bait you and expose your arrogance.

By bait you mean make one weak excuse after another only to have Nelsen’s actions prove otherwise. Brilliant strategy, you are well above everyone else’s level…wait let me guess…”April Fools!!!”

Pissed about what? I think the new AD is a great choice.

We were obviously pretty upset when Jon was fired from Sac State but looking back it opened a huge door for him. He loves being a head coach now and his Linemen Win Games business is flourishing with over 100 players signing up this spring (now his 7th season). He has several ARC and LWG alum that he's training for the NFL draft. Leon Lett, the Dallas Cowboy's Defensive Line coach was at ARC this past week working out Jordan Carrell who is a former ARC Alum and just finished his eligibility at Colorado. Eddie Vanderdoes and Nate Iese are both up to be drafted and LWG guys, along with Steve Moore, the starting tackle from Cal. Kolton Miller, an LWG guys, now at UCLA will be a top 20 draft pick next year.

He's won over 75% of his games as a head coach and took ARC to the State Championship for the first time since 1967. He now has his Master's Degree and is also a professor of Kinesiology at ARC.

Nothing to be pissed about now. I might even donate some money to the Hornets and go to a game this fall! :)

We wish nothing but the best to the new AD, school president and the team.

p.s. If you'd like to see some winning football check out ARC this fall. They are loaded! :)

I'm gonna guess that Jon will be on the short list for HC candidates when/if Sears bites it this season.

I'm sure SDH will not sign off on that...he'll demand a national search like the one he orchestrated for the new AD hiring

HHD congrats to your son. :thumb:

OSH, that is correct. Congrats, you finally got one right.
We’ve rolled the dice with a JC guy before… a guy that you proclaim to be the worst Hornet coach ever. So now you want to go with a JC guy again? Typical OSH logic fail…not a shock to anyone here.

National search (via a consulting firm) coupled with a competitive D1 compensation package and the “who” part of the equation solves itself. It's that simple.

Jonny O. wouldn't feel as though he needed to cheat to win. Your boy Sperbeck did.
It's that simple.

I am pretty sure though not Jon, the jersey representing the Legendary PAM incident is at Osterhout. (Also Volek Era)

Full disclosure: I bought the PAM at Montana. I didn't know my younger kid was so dumb (at the time) to put it on when outside the locker room. Jon was in the Press Box and had no idea what was going on. Funny how everyone hangs on to this hilarious moment. I still remember Wanless telling ESPN that the "charges would never stick." By rule, this is a 5 yard penalty for the first offense and you have to change your jersey although it was never called because Montana never told the referees, but chose to take photos and disclose publicly. Double sided carpet tape to keep the jersey tight to the pads was also big at that time. Bought a lot of that at Home Depot! :)

Why would you bring PAM to Missoula to a football game and not expect it to be used for something other than cooking stick free omelets?
It was blown way out of proportion.

I don't remember Jonny O. or John Volek getting the program on probation. To be clear...this is the first season Sears and Co. will not be paying the price for the indiscretions of the Sperbeck era. I didn't expect the self proclaimed SD genius to know or acknowledge that fact but I was fairly sure OH23 was cognizant of the situation.

You're still twisted up on Sperbeck.

BTW were you complaining when Sears used his recruits to get 7 wins and land an extension? Yeah didn't think so.
