Battle of the Birds: #5 ISUr at #4 EWU

Hey Eags. Sorry about the way things turned out today for you. You guys have a class act fan base and a damn good team. Well August 23 was a long friggin time ago, and it has been an up and down season but a fun one for sure. It would have been fun to have a Frisco rematch so we could meet up and break some laws in the Dallas areas. Wish us luck against the Bison cuz we'll need it. Hope you guys have a great Holiday and and a good off season.

Good post and good luck against NDSU.

This is far worse than the Sam Houston or Towson losses in my opinion. We were at least competitive in those games.

Towson was the worst for me. Sam Houston was a valiant comeback effort that fell just 3 points short. Down 35 at half, that was incredible to watch and it might have been the proudest I ever was as a EWU fan (and there's been tons of great moments to be proud of). This game, ISU was just better and I can deal with that. Yeah you can get on the defense, and I personally would like to see changes there, but like I said earlier, I tip my hat to ISU. That is a good team that came to play today. They got it done when they needed to. The Towson game however, I felt like EWU had that one and let it slip away. And unlike the 2012 and 2014 games, where the glaring weakness was defense, the Towson game had both sides of the ball give it up late. VA missing Kupp for what would have been an easy, game clinching TD on 4th down and EWU's inability to tackle West on Towson's last 2 TD drives. That one will always sting for me, the other two not at all.

Not privy to the events near the end of the game today, but my prayers go out to any and all involved. I hope everything turns out for the best.

Agreed. We just got beat by a better team today. Not a lot of shame in that. The defense was frustrating but nothing new or really that surprising I suppose.

It was a great season and we have a lot coming back next year. Can't wait!

We at least had a chance of winning all those games. We were never in this one.

I agree, Illinois State was just better. Still, I expected more from the D. The only team that gave up more points to them was Mississippi Valley State... y'know, the SWAC powerhouse. Had we even been able to craft mild resistance, we could have scored enough to win.

Congratulations on a good season EWU. Nothing to hang your heads about.
Watched on tv today but picture at bar not good and couldn't hear. It looked like everybody was a little flat. Maybe it was just that ISU had your number today.

See you in Cheney next year for another OOC game!

I'd have to say that the MVC honks were right... Illinois State was substantially better than anyone in the Big Sky, and I suspect North Dakota State is better than anyone in the Sky as well. Our D was such a liability this year that we sort of have to accept that we were fatally flawed from the outset. And yet we won the conference and should have run the table in the Big Sky.

Yup. Beating the Griz or the Cats is cool and all, but the conference is down. We're the only team in the BSC to even advance past the quarters the past several years. Playing UNC, SUU and the other weak teams in the Big Sky isn't preparing us for the playoffs the same way that the Valley teams do. Hate to say that, because I love Big Sky football, but the conference as a whole needs to adapt and start playing some defense.

Edit - Having Montana step up and be more competitive would help out as well. Big Sky is a one team show right now. Unacceptable for a 13 team conference.

tski60,
We left the game about 4 minutes before the game was over, couldn't stand the whipping we were receiving. Listening to the game on my way home heard the news of an emergency on the radio at Inferno. Our Prayers goes out for you and your family :( :( :( :( . Here is hoping your husband are doing much better. Your Family are Great people. Jake is so respectable, and outstanding young man. Please keep us in your minds, and keep us informed of the progress of your husband. God Bless!!!!! Vic Wallace

To All,
The better team won today. I had picked EWU to win by two touchdowns. So that mean I am not perfect    . My main concern right now is for Jake Dad and his family. Let us hope and pray for a speedy recovery for Jake Dad and his family. They are great people, met the family earlier at Swinging Doors earlier in FB Season picking up our FB Tickets. Talk more about the game sometime tomorrow. Great to see how much on our blog are concern about Jake Dad and Family. Thanks to the Redbirds personnel for the concern you have shown for Jake Dad health. God Bless. Vic Wallace

To All,
Failed to Congratulate our Eagles for an Outstanding Season, 11-3, is a great record               :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: . The better team won today. Hope I am here for another Outstanding Season next year. Have a Very Merry Christmas to our Coaches, Players, and all. Vic Wallace

You guys are on our board quite a bit talking smack. I recognize just about every one of your names. So to get worked up when a couple of Griz fans show up on your board is somewhat ironic and hypocritical.

I did not come to talk any smack though. Eastern has a good team and is the best in the big sky there's no doubt about it. But even with that said, I knew long before the playoffs started that no big sky teams were going far in the playoffs this year. The lack of defense in our conference would never put a team far. I knew that would hurt Eastern Washington badly as well. As a conference, these teams have to figure out how to play some hard-nosed football and bring some defense. Until then, the big sky is becoming the big sigh. Defense wins championships we are seeing that time and time again.

On a positive note, you guys kicked our butt a couple times and you've got a lot of great players coming back. I think if you can figure out your defensive woes you'll have a shot at the title next year. Best of luck.

While I agree with most of what you said, coming onto an opponents board for the sole reason to rub it in is classless, and very Grizzish.

I don't think many folks on this board rubbed it in when we kicked your asses (twice). That's the difference here.

Really. SE never ever does that sort of shit.

High scoring affair, tough loss EWU fans. I would have guessed with all the points scored we would have been on the losing side of this game.

I know a lot of you guys questioned our team speed, but we do have a few guys who can run, jump, and catch.
Not sure there was much that could have been said before the game to convince you guys....but I think both teams showed why they were in the playoffs.

I didn't rest until we recovered the final onside attempt and entered victory formation. Wish we could do this on an annual basis with a H/H series. Maybe after you're done with UNI.

Good luck Eagle fans, praying for your player who's family had the medical emergency. Lets do it again next year, except maybe we can host next year.
