BSCT-RENO

I'm really wishing I could have gone, but work and lack of funds are keeping this Wildcat fan home, but I'm wearing a different Weber shirt everyday this week in support of the Wildcats. I'll be cheering loudly from my computer at home

Vikings on top of the Bears 36-30 at half, only 3 Vikings have scored.

Forte with 21, Parsons with 13 and Gengler with 2

Weird that the cubs were able to beat Montana last week. Usually teams with solid bigs have a field day on the cubbies. Forte is quite the player though. Too bad he only had 1 year for PSU (I think Braxton Tucker is red shirting?). Geving got lucky with Forte. It'll be a little bit harder for Forte to get his points on Thursday.

By the way...if some of you are wondering why we didn't have a pep band against Montana, or why we probably won't have one in Reno, and why it was spotty all year, don't blame the band, but athletic administration. They decided to stop funding it. Wow...you've really got to wonder what is happening at the stadium. The Car is running but nobody is behind the well. I wonder how much longer it will take our AD to outsource the pep band. Just Enough...outsourcing or better yet, passing the buck is the best way to do things. :ohno:

No reason to fund it when the person running the show at the Dee never let the pep band play during time outs. Not sure if that was due to instructions from the AD's office. But it's been quite sometime since the pep band actually got to play much at all during time outs.
Didn't the band used to be down on the floor behind the basket many years ago? Perhaps the Big Sky doesn't allow that any more? I know at some arenas in other conferences the band is set up behind one of the baskets.

North Dakota just got a scare from the Thunderbirds but are able to pull the win off 85-80 and advance to face the Bungles on Thursday, two close games so far, lets see how Montana State and Sac State goes.

Sac just beat Montana State. It was close at the end, but MSU just couldn't get over an 8 point Sac lead in the closing minutes. Sac deserved the win. Although, the officiating was interesting. There was no flow to the game at all. At least one foul called each trip down the floor. It went both ways, but it had to be frustrating for the players. Fouls were getting called when the refs thought that something must have happened, even if it didn't. There was one no-call, where a player had his feet swept out from under him by an opponent and he was called for traveling when he hit the floor. As long as no hands were used, I guess it isn't a foul. :wall:

I hope Weber State and Montana fans traveled well to Reno, because so far, the Reno Events Center is empty in the opening round games (predictable, but I had some hope we'd be wrong).

According to the box scores they've averaged around 1200 fans...I call total BS. I saw some pics, no way there were more than 500 in the Sac vs. MSU game (that one supposedly had 1700 at it).

Remember, the had the forced sale of 100 tickets per school. That adds up to 1,200 tickets sold for all of the games. any walk up is just additional. They are not counting butts in seats. 1,200 will be the minimum reported from here on out.

EWU mopped up the floor with NAU. That makes only one upset for the day. That upset wasn't really that surprising. Since Demps returned to Sac's lineup, they are on the same level with the middle tear of teams in the BSC. Second round games should be interesting.

Bring on dem Vikes.

I obviously had a great time last night as we beat MSU....we had a pretty decent crowd from Sac and MSU had a couple hundred too...announced attendance was 1700 and I believe it....pictures don't show too good cuz the courtside seats are pretty empty (too pricey)....our team even commented that our support was the difference in the game...it's too bad some people who would like to be here can't make it...a lot of fun seeing fans from all over around the hotel...I met a couple of MSU fans last night and they were very nice people....hope to see you olds...have a safe drive over.....

They are not letting people move down into the courtside seats? That stinks. Good luck on the upset over the Griz. You beat them once already this year.

I do wish now that I had the leave and money to go, I had a lot of fun watching the qtr finals in Ogden last time we hosted. If I have the leave and money next year I may do it.

However in not buying the 1,700 in attendance for the SAC / MSU game, on bigskytv when they zoomed out during breaks and you could see the arena it was empty, take the 1,200 that each school had to sell and you get 500 and I even question 500 fans, the Sac fans did a good job at being energized and as loud as they could be, but there was no way 500 people in that arena

It was a good win for Sac, they looked good, good luck vs the Griz, I think you guys can pull it off

I also watched the Sac vs. MSU game last night. I like the young talent that Katz has right now. I think the Hornets will be a fun and a dangerous team to watch in the future. I know that the Hornets beat the Griz earlier in the season, but I don't see it happening on Thursday. Who knows...I could be wrong. The Hornets played the Bobs really well, and they match up with the Bobs great. Biggest issue for the Bobs...if you live by the 3 you die by the 3 and they don't have any decent bigs. Hornets have a very balanced squad with a solid front court. Good win by Sac, I don't see it as an upset, the Bobs definitely don't match up well with the Hornets.

As for the 1700...NO way. There was a clear shot of virtually the entire stadium (I'm pretty sure there weren't 1300 fans smashed into that section) and it looked bare. I wouldn't say more than 500 (I'll go count). This is Sac's best chance to ever host, and Sac is the closest institution to Reno, so I hope to hell to see more Sac fans than Griz fans tomorrow. It was the night game, so that should have helped attendance, and Sac is the closest institution to Reno, so that should have helped too...but, with both factors, it was still empty.

Listen, you can speculate all you want about who was there and who wasn't but I was there....Sac had 4 times as many fans as MSU....we filled our designated area and the complete section next to that...we had at least 800 fans just in our areas alone....I've seen plenty of WSU games online this year when they are announcing 7,000+ and you could set off hand grenades in the lower section of the Dee and not hurt anyone....the attendence figures were pretty darn close for our game....I have no idea about the other games but I saw quite a few EWU fans at our game too....unless you actually show up for a game, your opinion is based on nothing more than a s++++y stream....

Not to be captain obvious here but somehow these 2 statements don't really work together. I will believe pics I have seen of the tourney over your "word" any day Sacfan.

Hahaha!! The driver of the Sac party Van, wants me to believe that 800 Sac fans showed up? That would be the same as their season average. Okay, Sac, so, did the fans all dress up like blue seats? Cause, that's all I saw. And congrats on out drawing the Bobs. A school that is 7 hours from Ogden making it around 13/14 hours to drive to ReNO or a 3/4 hour flight with one stops in either Salt Lake or Denver for a flight that would cost around $500 two months ago. Once again numbnuts, this whole ReNO is like Sac hosting. You are the closest school!! I hope the hell you can draw well.

So whose idea was it to put the #1 seed's game at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon (mountain time)? I think that pisses me off more than the game being in ReNO (first time I've spelled it like that, but I'm beginning to really see why you all hate this idea--granted, I have hated it too, but it's more obvious than ever).

The best team in the conference with the best attendance in the conference, and you give them an early-afternoon game? Nobody outside of Reno is going to be able to watch it since we'll be at work. Not being a homer either--the top seeds in the conference should have an evening game. If Weber state blew, I'd understand.

No problem with 1:00 start, come tomorrow or hopefully Saturday that will be an advantage. If you can't watch today, well that happens when you work for the man. #1 seed Oregon plays at 1 o'clock as well today. reNO sucks for all the other obvious reasons, but not this

Just watched the semifinals in the WCC tourney in Vegas, #3 BYU losing to #2 Gonzaga...the same thing was mentioned, it's an advantage (all be it slight maybe) to give the #1 seed the earliest schedule playing for more resting time.
Well as a fan with a job, the start times for the WSU games SUCK! :twocents:

I totally understand that ... UND runs into the same issue with hockey. As you may know, pretty huge sport for us. Sucks to try to accommodate the early times, but definitely makes sense for the players.

And it's why this Wildcat fan is taking 2 hours of leave today :-D
