0 points from the bench. Ouch.

I was surprised that we only played 8 guys. So much for being a deep team. I think we need to adjust the line up a little. I think JRich would be better at the point. Senglin could play 2 but he looks so natural with the ball in his hands. It is very clear why Gelaun transferred. This kid is the future of Weber State basketball..

Didn't get to see the game, but we had 4 guys score.. 4 as in Four?
Where's our depth?

Saying we need to Fine tune our lineups is an understatement

-- Who is Christian McDonald? He was on a graphic on the screen when Senglin was shooting FTs.
-- Tres is going to kill it this year, especially if he and Joel can gel. Tres started out a little slow but really showed how special his senior year is going to be.
-- I can't wait for Joel put a complete game on the floor every night. He's shown glimpses but needs more aggressiveness and toughness without getting into foul trouble. I don't think he'll pick up a T anywhere else for swearing on a block. He wasn't even looking at Collinsworth when he let it go-- and I don't believe it was the F-bomb, I think it was b1tch, as in get it outta here b1tch! Only in Happy Valley. :ohno:
-- Weber can't wait an entire half for Dev to show up. He was the difference maker in the 2nd, whereas, Tres kept 'em in there the first half. Dev has got to be the leader on the court IMO and he needs ample chances to create for himself. When he gets it going, it's Damianesque  and so difficult for the opposing D.
-- Senglin is gonna be soooo good! He already shows so much composure and maturity, hard to believe he's a true frosh. :notworthy: Hopefully his shot will start falling with more consistency sooner rather than later.
-- JR was pretty much MIA, it didn't seem much different in the Adam's St. game. Too much talent and senior leadership there to be wasted-- coach needs to get that fixed.
-- I hope Hill, Williams, and Gittens can get much better and soon, Weber needs some quality minutes from the bench.
-- I was disappointed with the overall defensive effort and especially the transitional D. There were some decent defensive efforts but way too many easy drives to the basket. It's gonna be tough to do much against good jump-shooting players but Weber's gotta protect the paint much better than they did.
-- I was surprised that Weber was out-rebounded, should I be worried?
-- I'm disappointing and scratching my head over the last minute played. Why, if for nothing more than a teaching moment, didn't Rahe manage the clock and try? :wall:

I would say the bench cost us the game. It seemed when Rahe mixed it up thats when our offense and defense went flat.. Gittens missing two foul shots in a row, royce air ball then brick a 3, and hill...well they have some work to do.
Seglin started a little rocky. His D is terrible as anyone he guarded drove right passed him and his first two driving layups were a joke, but once he made his first shot he looked pretty darn good. Good looking stroke on those 3s.
I think J Rich should play the 1 and seglin back him up. Besides that first slump i thought our starting 5 really gelled when they got settled in.

Would rather have gotten the win, but I think the Out of conference schedule this year plays to Weber's advantage. BYU, Colo St, USU, SJS, and UT-A and UCLA - by conference we will have found out what kind of team we are. (BTW, BYU's next opponents are Mt St. Marys and Colorado-Mesa, both at Marriott. scary!)

Couple observations from the game:
-Haws is an awesome shooter, he just finds ways to score even with off balance shots- he is an offensive threat no matter who is guarding him.
-Tres had Mika's number, which is normal for a freshmen on a senior. Mika got a taste of what his defense needs to be in the future.
- Berry has flipped the switch, should see only the Davion we have seen in the past. His leadership and effort really showed in the second half.
- J Rich seems out of position, I'm not sure the 2 is his spot either. The point guard slot will be tinkered with to determine who/where etc.

Last comment: like many arenas, the Marriott center inspects women's purses as you enter. I figure it would be to find weapons, alcohol, etc........But they hassled my wife last night because she had some lollipops in her purse that were for a friend...!!!   She refused to give them up, and the guard backed down.
It was my first game ever in Provo, man it is "different" there. Guess I should have snuck a Tallboy of beer or some such to see the reaction. But candy smuggling?

I like our chances in FT Collins, we will get better and be ready for conference.

Last- Ken Pomeroy had BYU winning by 9 79-70/ the score was 81-72, man, those stat models are scary at times....

Senglin really impressed me. I was not expecting that kind of play from him first game, on the road.
Tresnak should score 20 a night. Few teams will have an answer for him. And they will be forced to double which should open Richardson, Senglin, and Berry to knock down some 3s.
Richardson will need to step up. Can't get zero points out of the 2 guard. He needs to get more aggressive.
The bench will improve when Hajek is back and when Gittens and Hill get more experience.

Rahe had his SR PG switch to the SG once before. McCoy played the 2 Dame's freshman year, once the conference season began. This says something about Senglin. He is really something special. He had a great game last night. But, what do we do with J-Rich? I think he will only get better, but we need him to participate on offense and get some points. His shots were all close though. Two, in and outs. and one off the side. Also, we need Royce to get in on the action.

that is being very kind to those that dwell in the land of utah county.

There was a lot of upside for the cats last night. Senglin has a lot of upside. When we needed some one to score he stepped up with the big 3. He had great ball control and at times I forgot he was a freshman. Royce had great defensive stop. In the first half with that big block on what I thouyht was an easy basket for byu. Tres looked really good but there was a couple of plays he should have been smarter with.

After watching this game I actually came away pretty encouraged with our overall team effort and outcome. Yes it sucks we lost to BYU again and I wish so bad we could be those guys. I get really bugged when we lose to an inferior team or we don't play hard. I thought our guys played their butts off and laid it all out there. BYU played great and just beat us. Can't complain about that. Other than maybe UCLA, there is no way we play a more talented team all year. BYU is very good and very very very good in Provo. Other than the first 5 minutes of the game we traded blow for blow with them. I'm going to predict they win the WCC going away. It will be between them and Gonzaga, but I think BYU is better. I bet we come out against Colorado State next Saturday and win. They play Gonzaga tomorrow on ESPNU so I'm going to watch and get a better feel for the Rams. I know they lost all 5 of their starters last year off a very good team so we will see, but I like our chances.

I like our starting 5. Who knew Senglin would be this good? No wonder Gelen left. Senglin is a upgrade already. He doesn't look and play like a Freshman. He has swagger and confidence. I'm going to predict he will be the all time leader in assists in Weber State history when its all said and done. Richardson had a tough game, but I'm not worried about him. He will bounce back. He was guarding Haws most of the game so I think he was focusing more on that than scoring. Tres and Berry were great and Bolomboy was solid. Our bench will play better eventually too. It was the first college game for Gittens and Hill ever. BYU is a tough first game. You could tell they were nervous, but you can see they are both very talented and will be fixtures for us this year and for 3 more years. Very excited for those 2 guys. Other than the UCLA game I think we have a great shot at the rest of our non conference games. I watched a little of the USU game and they are tough, but I like our chances in Ogden against those wankors. I hope we take care of CSU then lets pack the DEE for USU. YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really feel that Weber is as good as BYU. If it wasn't for a couple of lapse's, to start the game, not playing much defense for 5min in the second half, the Cats could have pulled out the W in Provo. My biggest worry is when Gittens, Hill, Bolomboy, and Senglin are on the court at the same time, someone other than Senglin has to become a reliable scorer. Defensively, I'm not worried. Gittens had some issues with Haws and Carlino, but it was his first game, I'm positive he will get better and become a solid defensive player.

More than anything else, I'm shocked that the game was fairly well reffed. Of course, there were some interesting calls, but that is to be expected. I never would have guessed that a game at the Marriott would be considered far more fair than a football game at Stewart Stadium.

Not to beat this topic to death, but I feel our team did pretty well on Friday. I know others have commented on this before, but at times there were four underclassmen on the floor. I'm not too worried about the Cats. Yes, I hate losing to BYU, but I will take a 9pt loss at the Marriott Center over some of our recent losses to the Cougars.

I'm not worried about Jordan in the slightest. He will end up becoming a very good shooting guard. His shots were all right there, they just rimmed out.
