Coaching NEWS

I’m glad Andy found a good new role. I think not only will this be a great opportunity for him at FBS but he can focus on doing what he’s best at being a DC.

I think they made this a nice transition. Waited until finishing signing day

I hope AT / TT and Stanford do well

Good people. Great combo of coaches.

Too bad we don’t hire Brent Vigen from Montana state!!! That guy is kicking Azz.

Yeah, but all those signees can break their agreements because the HC left. and now we only have two guys (Richardson and Fresques) under contract. More guys will hit the portal now. We are in big trouble.

What do Orr/Wood do at this juncture? Sac12 and PacX have gone silent and cold. They were pushing $75M in NIL not a month ago and now crickets. Jan BOT will show their hand as shovels gotta start digging to meet any chance of moving through the FBS reclassification in time for either MWC or PacX.

Wild hair, do they go FBS indy until an invite from these two? Kinda like a standoff, FBS conference wont take Sac because they are not FBS and Sac cant move to FBS because they are not in a conference. Something has to give.

Do they shoot for the stars and open the purse for a HC/staff that can make the move to FBS, if that is still happening or plug the gap with a short term transitional HC/staff?

Wonder if AT left because he knew he was in over his head as a HC, as a position coach/analyst at Stanford probably paid the same, or does he know the Sac to FBS is all hot air and lost faith?

My question too. Was he pushed out or did he figure out HC was not for him?

For AT's sake, hope he figured it out. But for Sac State, I hope they pushed him out and have already had some talks with potential coaches.

Richardson is the only coach that I really like 100%.

Cherokee / Pomphroy are good. I’d keep if possible

But if new HC wanted somebody else then I’d flex to them

Obviously, only he knows. However, he wasn't getting much support from the fan base. Maybe a little bit of all of the above. He is a good coach and person or his former boss wouldn't have hired him. Also, probably got a raise along with it.

Bill Belichek has agreed to become the next Sac State HC…..Joe Davidson
It would be funny to get that trending.... LOL

I mean, if he’s seriously interested in a collegiate gig — what poses a bigger challenge than transforming Sac State into a National name? Lol.

I’m still puzzled over Belichick’s “interview” with North Carolina. Why on earth does an 8x Super Bowl Champion need to interview? If he wants that job — you give it to him! Especially when you’re UNC!

Some of us got what we wanted, question is will they level up. I think he had a buyout agreement so we should get additional $$ from that as well. I hope we get top notch HC, not some oh well he is available now coach.

IDK where the future will lead, but I do feel that AT did the program solid by opting to leave. He wasn’t HC material. Whatever the future holds for the Hornets, they avoided having it delayed another year or more.

Question is, will they promote Kris Richardson or go outside for the next hire?

As much as I like KR, if he comes with Fresques returning as OC — I think I’d opt to hire outside the program. Fresques keeping his current gig would also delay the forward movement.

I was okay w AT 1 last season but I was expecting him to bounce OC BF.
As HC I guess he couldn’t dismiss him which means he isn’t HC material unfortunately.
This was better for AT career this way. Worked for us got a buyout. Worked for AT getting a Raise and FBS experience.
Hope they succeed. If they fail. This will probably get HC TT Fired at the end of the season?

100% Agree..

Brent Vigen is doing a great job! Team is disciplined and in synch.

His Salary:
Vigen's latest contract, which expires on January 31 of 2027, includes a base salary from $214,649.87 annually. Before signing the new four-year deal last April, Vigen was making $210,437 in annual salary.

I was impressed w this Coach Ferris State when they almost beat UM Griz.

That caught my attention.

Overall, Annese posted a cumulative 225-45 (.833) overall record as a head coach at the prep and junior college levels. He was a National High School Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year finalist in 2009 and was tabbed as the MHSFCA Coach of the Year in 2004, 2006 and 2008.

Not true. We had a solid attendance this year even with our subpar record. I wouldn't gage the fan support based on a few yahoos on this board. Anyone who was a Hornet fan prior to the Taylor era understood how solid of a person and coach Thompson is.

Ironically, all the folks denigrating Coach Thompson now get to see his value as Taylor will hire him a second time for a bigger payday. Not sure how those folks run the mental gymnastics that Coach Thompson couldn't cut it but yet Taylor seemed fit to poach him twice, but at least they get their wish.

He was probably at UNC to look for his next girlfriend and figured it wouldn't hurt to interview for a HC job since he was already there.

Wasn't HC material? He held this program together following all the changes after '22 and went on to earn our 2nd ever D1 playoff win when lots of people were counting this program out. Every HS recruit from this current class is a 3 star recruit, not bad from a staff that "destroyed" this program.

I'm grateful that Coach Thompson stuck around after the '22 season and delivered another playoff win in '23. I wish him the best at Stanford.
