Collins Contract Extension

Not sure why helpourbears is trying to call me out, but if I knew who these players were that he continuously references, I may be able to comment. Unfortunately, I don't know because he hides behind his screen name. Bottom line, I support the Bears, the players (my son included) and the coaching staff. This is the program my son chose to be a part of and I support him (and them) unconditionally. When my son signed for the Bears, I became a fan. As a fan, I stick up for my team. Obviously helpourbears has a problem with his son's experience thus far at UNC. Not sure what that is, but I'm sure that it has absolutely nothing to do with me. That being said, I will be at the game this Saturday, maybe helpourbears and I should talk face to face. I'm not that hard to find.

what does my screenname have to do with the players I am refering to? As far as this weekend I will not be in attendance due to a conflict with a work schedual. I am a fan of UNC and all of the programs I have been to many differant sports to support the whole school. However I am not a lemming and will not blindly support a man or a staff that is behaving like this is a high school program. The people that they puton the field should be there because they earned it not because they or their parents kiss a coaches ass that is all I amsaying. And I will say it again I will not name a player if I ambeing critical that is not fair to them. Now having said that I dont even knowif my son will play this week as he told the staff his backup is playing better. But who knows that might cause these dingbats to play him more!!!!!!

I guess I'm still not sure why you (helpourbears) are directing your comments to me directly. I understand your opinion, but what does it have to do with me? If you are implying that my son gets playing time because he kisses ass, or even more absurb, because I kiss up to the coaches, you couldn't be more wrong and are way out of line. My son works hard and has earned every minute of playing time he has received. You don't know me, or my son, nor do you know as much about football as you think you do. Obviously your respect for, and belief in your own son is in question if you would include him in your "list" of 7-10 that shouldn't be on the field. Quite frankly, I'm tired of you and your comments. You are not the athletic director, so you have no say in who coaches this team. You have to live with his decision. You are not the head coach, or an assisitant coach, so you have no say in who plays and who doesn't. You have to live with their decisions. Bottom line, they are in charge. Deal with it and stop being a cry-baby.

Wow, reading through this thread, I kind of forgot how hard it was to be a coach. The job itself is difficult. Then you have to deal with the media/fans/boosters. Then you have to deal with the parents.

If things go well, then you can tell everyone to get lost, but if the team is failing week after week then everyone of those people (fans, media, parents) will generally have a legit reason to complain. It's clear that not all is well in Greeley and it's well past time for a change.

I disagree. A college football coach should not waste his time reading this crap. This is a fan, media, booster and parent forum. A coach should not consider, or even care about, our opinions. It is his job to direct the program, not ours. We can vent and compalin all day long amoungst ourselves, but if you really believe it effects the coach's decisions, you are mistaken. They first lesson of any successful athlete or coach is to never read your own press.

I am not talking about this forum, just being hounded in general. I kind of thought that parents politicking for playing time ended in pop-warner but seeing this thread makes be believe that college coaches have to deal with it as well. And it was the Nebraska Boosters who got Frank Solich fired so there is real pressure coaches have to face (not just our board). Also, there have been UNC coaches posting on here so we know some of them are reading our vents.

I didn't say that they didn't read it. I said that they shouldn't read it. I don't think any of the complaining, "politicking" posts on this forum are taken into consideration when deciding how to coach the team. Granted, Dink did fire back when someone made an uninformed comment that he personally took offence to, but do you think that he changed his work outs as a result of it? Of course not. I'm glad you brought up Nebraska. The boosters did indeed get Solich fired. It was the biggest mistake in the program's history. Look at Solich's record, compaired to all that have followed. Look at the recruits that Solich was able to sign compared to what they currently have on the roster. That's the problem with letting boosters dictate the direction of the program. They just don't know enough to make an informed decision. All they want is a championship, but have no real idea how to make it happen. That's Dunn's job. So far, I think he is doing a pretty good job. Trust him to continue to do what is best for UNC.

I agree Dunn is doing an awesome job but no way is Collins doing a great job. You can't be serious comparing Solich's situation with Collins. If so, you are in lala land. Collins has been in control of his own destiny (and it is not working) otherwise boosters would have had him fired last year before Dunn came on board. And you can believe the so called shit is going to hit the fan after next Saturday, win or lose !

I didn't compare Solich's situation to Collins, Brian did. I merely pointed out that listening to the boosters with regards to choosing coaches hasn't always worked out for the best, as in Solich's situation. What happens with regards to Coach Collins is in Dunn's hands, not yours and not mine.

Ok, sorry about the Solich confusion and you are correct that Collins fate is out of our hands. I still say things are going to get crazy regardless of which side of the fence your on.

Dunn's decision may be out of our hands, but it is not out of the Boosters hands. Boosters are the lifeblood of every program and there are very few schools where they would not have a direct impact on the hiring or firing of a coach. To think otherwise would be extremely naive. And I can tell you that my family has a long relationship of over 20 years with the family of major UNC Boosters and they have passed along to us that the Boosters have had enough of Collins. The last thing Dunn needs is to have the donations dry up. So, we will see what happens after Saturday. I know where I would put my money if Vegas had a line on whether or not Collins and staff are fired.

Dont ever question my respect or belief in my son. I respect hjim more now than ever, because he has the guts to admit he isnt playing well right now. I didn't say he wasn't any good just playing flat now. As far as my football knowlesge it snt to hard to see how bad this teamis. And by the way you are pretty hard core in your defense of the coaching staff, and there is no way it is just because of principle alone. Yousaid your kid was an o-lineman not one ofthem has played wellenough this year to feelsafe and yet the same kids play every game coincedance I think not.
