"It's an amazing opportunity to play one of the top programs at our level to kick off the 2014 football season," said Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin. "We're very appreciative of ESPN and the commitment they have made to FCS Football, both in the past and in the future. We truly believe it will be a great game for football fans not just at our level, but also for others who aren't as familiar with FCS football."

Ranked as the No. 1 team in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision entering the season, the Eagles finished third in the final Sports Network FCS Top 25 poll of the 2013 season after losing to Towson 35-31 in the semifinals of the playoffs. Eastern was 12-3 on the season and 8-0 in the Big Sky Conference.

The Bearkats finished 14th with a final record of 9-5, having defeated Southern Utah from the Big Sky 51-20 in the first round of the playoffs, then falling 30-29 to Southeastern Louisiana. Sam Houston State's new head coach is K.C. Keeler, who was the head coach at Delaware when Eastern beat the Blue Hens 20-19 for the 2010 NCAA Division I Championship.

If you want this to be accurate the visiting team is usually on the left. Away vs Home. just a little helpful hint bruh!

Forgive me, but I'm a bit rusty. Is this where we make predictions or is that a different thread?

Eh, I don't see why we can't combine them.

Edit: Eh, changed my mind. 42-27, EWU

TSN has it Away at Home, but since I'm posting from EWU's perspective, I'll always have EWU first. I appreciate your concern. :thumb:

As good a place as any...what say you oh great one!!

Put me down for 35 - 24 good guys. Bearkitties score a tub in garbage time.

Football Gameplan has their video preview of the game up. They always do a great job of providing thorough coverage and reviews of all things football.

Can totally understand how the pundits are predicting this one towards EWU...you guys have a great team w a lot of talent returning but I think it goes no further than the 909 total rushing yards gained by the Kats the last 2 years. Heck if it weren't for Adams coming in out of nowhere and throwing 6 TD passes on 14 total completions the year before, we'd be talking about back-to-back blowouts.

IMO, it's just a bad matchup for the Eagles...similar to NDSU & us (although the last 3 years, they didn't match up well with A LOT of teams).

Regardless, I don't see a team winning by more than single digits so let's hope the guys give the ESPN audience a show.

Have we done a predictions thread yet? Or are predictions buried somewhere in another thread?

Either way, my prediction is a fast game, fairly high scoring for the good guys and only minimal sloppiness. I think we'll see some turnovers from both teams and a fair amount of penalties on passing plays that combined with EWU's high powered offense could keep the chains moving early and often.

I think Vernon plays solid with a few big pass plays, but the story of the day will be the running game. Big numbers from the running backs is what I'm predicting. I also expect a special teams TD (or two).

Final score.

EWU - 41
other guys - 17
