Final - 2014 Recruiting - 26 Verbals

Great athleticism and awareness. Fun to watch.

Which player are you talking about? LaCoste? I like him, you don't have too. Suffice to say, he has all the measurables including "heart". Not sure we need another RB, but fun keeping an eye out for talent. Let's face it, this staff pulled quite a few surprise recruits like Ekubam and Douglas last year that weren't on any of the lists.

All I know is LaCoste was the Gatorade Offensive Player of the Year, think we have another one of those in Cody McCarthy from Idaho on the defensive side. You can take the time to see how fast he is at the 21 second mark of this video when he turns it up for 60 and a TD. I'd say in the 4.5 range, he doesn't have to go all out very often in these videos once he hits the edge.

Per NW Preps: http://www.northwestprepreport.com/jake-lacoste-could-be-the-top-back
We caught up to Jake LaCoste this week. The 5’10″- 196 lbs freakish athlete says he is looking forward to Track season and mostly hitting the weights and working on his conditioning. He says his 40 time is at a 4.35 hand time which is about a 4.49 laser time. And get this. The kid can jump. A 37″ vertical. That is in the top 1/4 of 1% of all athletes in the Nation. These numbers and his 4.2 shuttle really tell the story of this more then explosive kid and why he is nearly impossible to bring down.

NW Preps says:
Jake LaCoste- 5’10″- 195 Pounds

West Albany HS Running Back

Thomas Tyner set our Oregon Rushing records this season but this Junior is hot on his Tail. The kid was the Gatorade Offensive Player Of The Year and rigthfully so.

Jake went for 3,077 Yards and 38 TDs on the Ground. WOW! The kid is so fast and so good.
There is little chance he does not shine at whatever he does in life and beyond. This event is one that should really help him put his stamp on things. Big time player and talent too!

Enjoy.

To All,
I've been away from the scene for a while. Attended the game on Saturday and watched our team defeat Montana State 55-29. Monday I got very sick, aching all over my body, have never gotten that much pain in my long young life ;) Finally had to go to my doctor yesterday, when I discovered I had a high temp, sinus problems, and the Flu. I am feeling a little better this morning. Really missed not being with the team in practices, We will miss their departure this Friday for "Cal Poly" Our defense/Offense will play to their potential, should they do that they will come back home 7-0 Big Sky, 9-2 overall. I am so happy to see McKenzie got another year back, and he should be practicing with the team. He played one od his last game with a broken hand, and he played fantastic. I could say more about the "Oral Commits" I will wait until the signed Letters come out sometime in Feb 14. Now my goal is to stay inside for a few days, get healed, then visit our teams and their activities. Here is good health to all of you, your loved ones, and friends. G Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

PS, DVR is set for Cal Poly DTV 687, any other channel will get you partial game, I have learned the hard way.

Vic, don't mess around with the Flu. Zinc, vitamin C, fluids, water and rest/sleep in copious amounts. Someone go check on Vic.

Jake Lacoste outta OR West Albany. Like this kid, never goes down on first contact. I think we got two good ones in Manu (maybe safety? scout has him there) and Asan already. Just saying

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/829201/highlights/57198376

article on recent playoff win. kid had 220+ and 5 tds first half. set record of 7 consecutive runs 7 tds this year too. not 2 yard runs either.

Looks fast on the HS field and not necessarily quick feet but OK. What I like is the power and smart running. It appears he is patient and lets blocking develop before going through the hole. Smart runner.
Good get!

Oddly Lacoste (not sure he is on EWU radar, so will stop putting players not linked to EWU on this recruiting thread) stats are essentially identical to Asan's (who has committed according to this thread). Asan may have more upside and looks to be a FS in our system per the articles written on him last season.

I don't think we have ever had five verbals this soon in recruiting, how early did Cooper Kupp commit last year? Recruits often wait until late in the process hoping to get an offer from an FBS school (of course they sometimes decommit when they get that late offer).I wonder if Colorado EWUmomma had any influence in Conner Cain verbaling. Or maybe it was the game Saturday that convinced him to commit early. He also had an offer from Montana, among others. If EWUmomma could have been at the Coaches' show last night she would have been proud of Beau's recognizing the great job the offensive line did in the MSU win. They really were a 'Big Unit'.

Don't know anything at all about Conner Cain, but I'll sure have to look now!! Heritage is where BK went, and that's all I know. Sure wish I could've been at the Coach's show too! We listen on-line every week, but of course we're missing out on Coach Baldwin's film sessions. :( Couldn't be more thrilled with our "Big Unit"! Happy to hear that the big boys got some much deserved love!  We'll be in Cheney for the Portland State game and have plans to hook up the big fellas with some home cookin' on Sunday. In the mean time, can't wait for tomorrow!! God Bless and GO EAGS!!

I don't know anything about Conner Cain either, but if he's a DE that's 6'4" 250 out of HS, he's got strongsider written all over him. That is such a key position in modern defenses. Hopefully, he can carry another 25 pounds or so easily.

On his video, he had a 40 of 4.47, which is pretty damn fast. There is always the possibility of him slowing down a bit as he puts on muscle for college ball.

I would put him on the defense.

And hold your breath when tries to cover a 6'3" receiver.

TJ Lee is 5'9, and he does a pretty darn good job. Just sayin'.

Good point I didn't realize that.
If he would end up as little as 75% the player TJ is he will be just fine.

Too be polite, watch the kid's film attached above and let go of the "size" thing. IMO he was well built as a sophomore (other video) somewhere in the thread. Don't really want to see players being evaluated here (sort of demeaning) on little to no information, but hack away as you will.

To All,
We are heading in the right direction. Our team is "AWSOME". Here are some "FACTS" you should know. When our Players used to practice on the grass field in the back, we had Bo Levi there as our QB, he kept everything going, since the Coaches couldn't be with the team until classes started. The next individual was Brandon Kaufman, I said he was going to be an outstanding Receiver. Then I saw this gentleman of whom I taught was a brother (black) (nothing racial, please).I said he was going to be another outstanding receiver, that gentleman was Cory Mitchell, he had just gotten here from Katy, Texas, and had a tan from the Texas Sun ;) , and was just working out with the team. After practice Bo Levi would always walk over and talk to us, my daughter and myself. Bo came over, he said "Vic this is Cory Mitchell, my older brother, and is going to try and play for us". Bo your brother have been a great addition to our team, and we love him as much as the others. I enjoy seeing Cory, Cooper, and Shaq sitting on the sidelines, laughing and having fun with the big grins/smiles on their faces. I saw this tall male in the Coaches office, I asked who is he, that is when I found out his name was Nicholas Edwards, I followed him, and he became one of the most avid person to study films, the rest is history. Here comes little Freshman Cooper Kupp, I knew he was a gem germ in the making, just waiting his turn to shine, the time came and he haven't disappointed anyone. I remembered he came to my residence I wanted him to feel at home, which he did. I would tell jokes, and all he would say is, "Vic you kills me" Please don't think I am looking for any publicity. I remembered meeting Cody McCarthy, in the lot by the football field, with his parents. Rest is history. Will miss practice again get completely healed, and get ready for the run. Only thing I regret, is these men and women are here for 4-5 years, become so close, and then gone, like losing one of my children. I have others I could talk about, another time. This makes the Players proud that someone(s) cares about them. So much for my book. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

luckyintheorder,
Thanks for your concern, someone did check on me, he made a call, we are on the phone daily. He coached 4 of my 7 children in track and field over 40 years ago, giving away my age. ;) Must mention the Uniforms the team wore Saturday, are very sharp. I love how they fit the body so snug, they can't find any material to pull on. Imagine should I wear one, they would make this fine figure look awesome, just like "Mount St Helens" all those hills and rolls. ;) :thumb: :thumb:    Good morning. Vic Wallace

Vic;
We sat next the John Kreifels #44 parents in the second 1/2 of the game yesterday, nice folks. I'm with you, these parents send their "babies" off to little 'ol Cheney for 4-5 years and change from kids to men. I think what you do to make them feel welcome is great.
I wish parents of players got more recognition at games so us fans could get to know them too. Maybe a pin or or button they could wear so they could be recognized.

clawman,
Glad you had an opportunity to sit next to John Kreifels, LB family, he is a very nice young man to talk with. Another one is Isaac Anderson DB, from Prosser, Wa., these two young men impressed me very much when I saw them practice since practices started this year. They are both in the mix of things when they on the field, but speak so softly when you talk with them. You are right, we need to do something to recognize the parents of our Athletes when they are on campus, especially if they are at the games. Maybe they are, but I am not aware of anything. It has been very rough for me, missed all practices last week, and the send off of our team last Friday to Cal Poly. Will miss most of the practice this week, want to stay indoors and get better for the Game Saturday. Chris is right there keeping dad in line. Found out last Wednesday from my Doctor, I had the Flu, high temp, sinus problems  :ohno: . Clawman, have never been this sore in my in my young life ;), everything hurt me. Even the problems with my back I was having, have subsided. Thanks to the man up above, and my Doctor, I have felt good the past 3 days, and pushing for complete healing by Friday.    Hope to see you on Saturday, will be keeping my fingers, and everything crossed to be healthy again. This will be a "BIG, BIG GAME" this Saturday. You, your family, and other families, deserve credit for following our Team around to the different games. That is great. I remembered those days, as we age, everything get slowed, stop. ;) Have a great day. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace
