FIRE B.J. HILL!!!!

How does this guy still have a job? He can certainly recruit but when it comes to x's and o's he couldn't help an elementary school team. At the end of this night we may be 2-3 and with a quality coach would be 5-0! Oh wait tricky dicky monfort loves mediocrity just like his baseball team....

This is a joke right? We have played a lot of good teams on the road. Remember our out of conference record when we went to the big dance under Boyle? FFS.

Get your facts straight please. We never went to the big dance under Boyle.

Oooops, my bad. It does make you look ridiculous though. We lost 7 out of 11 before we made it to Big Sky play that season. I just don't get that your first post on here is trashing the one mens program that has exceeded expectations.

And one night of dreadful shooting against a team we should be able to handle easily does not mean we have the wrong coach. This Bethune-Cookman game is shocking though.

The game @ DU that year that we went to the dance was when he should've been fired. My friend and I were screaming/pleading from the strands to stop playing a zone defense against a team that could only shoot the three. To no avail. He continually misuses svihovic, and will, in the long run,. negate what Boyle created.

Are you for real or just freakin nuts ? This game was of the biggest comebacks I have ever seen ! Down by 24 points and you want to fire the coach ? We wee shooting horrible in every phase of the game and to come back like we did took a lot of poise and persistence but I guess the coach did not have anything to do with that ? Not using Svihovoc the way he should be ? Wtf game were you watching ? Svihovoc is playing exactly the way he is supposed to ! Great game Bears and great game BJ Hill

He started the thread at half time when we were getting blasted (which is still no excuse).

I like BJ. He has a great mind for the game and I believe with the additions of the new coaches, this team has great potential to compete at a high level. I am curious to know what is the general consensus as to the possibility of the team going back to the NCAA tournament this year. If not them, who? I believe the preseason pick was Weber, but I think we can hang with them for the most part. So, how do you see the season ending? Final win/loss record and do they make it to the tourney?

I am cautiously optimistic but barring any hiccups or injuries I think we have the potential to run the table in the BS and host the tournament again ! Unruh has not even found his groove yet and the new guys are playing great defense. Lee and Bardon will be a force also not to mention Huskisson and Svihovac

I could see us winning 7 or 8 home games and maybe 5 road games and finishing near the top of the BigSky. A result I would be thrilled with.

Definitely cool to see a general optimism around the program, think it's deserved. I guessed they would go somewhere along the lines of 18-11 (13-7 Conference) when the season started. I think that's still in play but maybe this is a team that could go 16-4 in Big Sky play and finish the regular season more like 22-9. It's just hard to get a read on the other teams in the conference until conference play. I mean, Weber State and Montana are a combined 2-7, but both have played pretty tough November schedules. Same goes for North Dakota. I just think it's really hard to run the table in conference play unless you're just head-and-shoulders better than everyone else (like Montana and Weber State were last year and they virtually only really lost to each other), I don't think UNC is quite that good, at least yet.

Browsing over their conference schedule, there is a possibility they could come out of the gate strong in the first half, I think 9-1, 8-2 is plausible IF they protect home court against the likes of Weber State/North Dakota. The back half schedule seems a bit more daunting with some difficult road games and opportunity for plain old "schedule losses". I think a lot is contingent on how the teams who are expected to be at the bottom of the conference will be. If teams like NAU, SUU, Portland State etc. are just bad in general, then a 16-4 mark is definitely possible. If those teams are the types who are extremely competitive at home, we might see UNC drop one or two of those and get closer to the 13-7 record. Just my 2 cents.

Sounds like you should be coaching. :dunce:

You do realize that this is the UNC in Greeley and not the one in Chapel Hill, right? We went on the road to play 3 tournament teams from last year and got a win and two close losses, and you want to fire the coach for that? Ok then...

How am I nuts? Did anyone see the end of the New Mexico state game? We have the ball with 22 seconds left down by one and we lose by four?!?! It's pure common sense to coach your kids up to take the last shot in that situation. Not throw up a contested fade away three with 11 seconds on the clock.

LOL ! So if Tate makes the shot , he is a hero and makes the coach look like a genius. And its tough to win when you only shoot 37%. Hey, its early. I think we have the potential for a great year. Go Bears-- :coffee:

I thought in that situation that you shoot early, in case you miss. Get a rebound or maybe the other team misses the free throw. IMHO, you want more possessions when you are down and don't leave it to a last second 50/50 effort. Just my opinion and I would certainly not fire a coach because their philosophy differs on how to manage the last 30 seconds of a game down 2.

Ok well if you want to make that point (which no self respecting coach would) then svihovic should be coached up to know to immediately foul instead of letting the guy dribble all the way down the court just to foul him on a lay up with 2 seconds left. I can understand putting up a shot at 5 seconds for the possibility of a quick put back but you have to realize your opponent has a guy that's like 8ft tall and 700lbs therefore a rebound is highly unlikely. In a road game like that, in that situation, any team in the country at any level (except the poorly coached ones) lose by one or win by one or two. If unruh hits that shot to go ahead by two that's fine but he left 11 seconds on the clock, an absolute eternity for them to hit a game tying or winning shot of their own.

In Hill's defense, *he* recruited Barden, who has been nothing short of awesome at UNC. 16 and 17 against KSU on the road!

And I like what I'm seeing (or listening to after the KSU game) from Jordan Wilson.

Hill's got the right idea for building solid teams at UNC: JUCO standouts and discounted HS players.

I think Hill, as any coach, can improve; but also like any other coach he's liable for poor execution.

While the poor starts in the last two games concern me, I expect UNC to get a top 3 seed in the Big Sky. Ideally, they'll have home court and punch their ticket to a game against the other UNC and miraculously beat the Tar Heels, leading to an annual rivalry that ensures we have at least one ranked opponent each season. George Mason made it to the Final Four. Anything can happen.

See now this guy is starting to get it!
