Gonzaga guard considering Weber State

Graduate programs tend to hurt us a bit. Good way to get a feel for Alberts' next academic program is to see what he is earning his BS Degree in this Summer. However, I couldn't find that information. So, we are flying blind until we find out.

I think Weber is his best choice, but he might be waiting to see if anyone else comes calling after July 1. Personally, I think that is rather risky, but that is an option. Coming out of high school, he had offers to OSU, Wisconsin, Tulane, and Arizona State.

Alberts is expected to graduate with a degree in economics this summer
He sounds like a highly intelligent young man. I hope that we have what he requires. :thumb: :thumb:

Can Bryan work on another Bachelor degree or does he have to do a graduate program? Maybe he would want to work on another Bachelors degree. Also, if we get Bryan I think he will be our starting PG. We need one badly. I love Cody John, but unless he improves his ball handling and passing then he should be our first guard off the bench. That would leave only Nelson as our option at PG and he is only a Freshman. Harding can probably do the PG, but he is such a great scorer and I don't want him to have to worry about running the offense. Just score that damn ball Jerrick. ha ha

The more I look at our team, the more I really feel we need Alberts at Weber State. The kid could be a game changer for the Cats. He could play the 1, 2, or 3 in Randy's system. Not only that, he is experienced and knows what it takes to win at a higher level. He might have received limited time for the Zags last season, but they still were the runners up. He was a member of a great team and can bring that knowledge to our program. Most importantly, he is an excellent shooter and the Cats really need someone to come in and be able to consistently hit big shots. Most importantly, he gives us more depth. With this depth we can potentially red shirt younger guys like Airy, Court, Anton, or Doc (not all of these guys can red shirt) and give them time to develop. Finally, he is someone who has the talent and potential to being a Big Sky 1st team. How could we not want a player of this caliber?

THIS COULD BE ONE SCARY GOOD STARTING 5:
Harding
Alberts
Richardson
Chapman
Braxton

With: Baker, John, Kozak, and Dallas being part of the rotation.

YES, we want Alberts.

I wonder what is taking him so long to decide? I don't see him going to VCU. I hope we get him. We need help at the PG badly. We would have won the big sky championship game if we could beat a simple full court press. Looking at our current roster, we only have one true PG in Nelson and he will be a true freshman. I really like Cody John, but he is not the answer at PG. He is perfect as a combo guard coming off the bench. Looks like Alberts can handle the PG duties and play all 3 guard positions. WE NEED HIM BAD!!!!!!!!!!

Looks to me that he is a very measured young man, and wants to make a good choice. However, teams won't wait forever on him. Looks to me like VCU has already moved on and I don't see anyone to cut off of LBSU's roster to make room for him. I'm not even sure that you can cut anybody after July 1st. Anyway, as time goes on his options will shrink. We have been quite patient with him and will continue down that path. We have a spot open for him or any other transfer. I don't know about our interest in any other transfers out there, but you never know who might come along. Also, I don't think that we are sitting idly by and not planning for our future. I'm sure that there are some 2018 guys we are looking at. It may just be a matter of who commits first. There is no pressure for us to sign anybody, but there may be some pressure for potential Wildcats to commit. If I am a coach, I would only want players who want to be part of our winning program. Right now, there are a lot of quality players available for 2017, 2018, and 2019. :coffee:

Latest rumor is Alberts is going to return to GU. :-(
I think that is a real possibility. He may still not start, but he would likely get more minutes this year.

That wouldn't change the direction of our program at all. We are headed in the right direction. Things look quite good for Weber over the next several years. :thumb: :thumb:

According to this tweet, sounds like that rumor is NOT true, but it also sounds like Weber State may be out of the running...

Long Beach State now has an opening. Last week they didn't, this week they do. One of their seniors decided to leave school and pursue a professional career. VCU doesn't have a grant available. Their roster has been updated. Unless, he is thinking of walking on at VCU, that isn't an option for him. I do have a conspiracy about SWX, they are big homers of Eastern Washington and Montana and don't want to see Weber getting a major addition. Making a mistake in a tweet could be their way to trying to hurt Weber's chances. Saying to him, "hey, you are too good for Weber, they shouldn't even be in the discussion."

But...in all likelihood, he has cut Weber from his choices. We have had a grant available to him and still do. Nobody had to be cut to make room and we have a great chance, with him, to being able to win the conference and go dancing next year. If he really wanted to come here, he would have committed by now.

Gotta hand it to Randy and his staff, they have tried really hard to bring in a player who will help improve the talent level of the Cats this summer. Just, nothing has click. I'm not giving up on Alberts based on a tweet from some gal from SWX, but it isn't looking good.

With Alberts:
Alberts
Harding
Richardson
Chapman
Braxton

Without Alberts:
Harding
Richardson
Chapman
Kozak
Braxton

OR

Harding
Richardson
Baker? John? Newb
Chapman
Braxton

Either way, I'm fairly confident in Weber's lineup.

VCU adds guard. They made their decision. Alberts has two options out of his original 3. Maybe he's adding more options. Who knows.

Although transfers are continuing to dribble in, if anything, the opportunities are getting scarcer, not more abundant. Add that to the fact that there are still several high quality players out there, looking for homes, and what a transfer once thought was a choice isn't any more.

Who knows where Bryan may end up, but two of the options, VCU and GU, don't seem to be options any more. There have been years when players waited long enough that there were no D1 options left for them. There will almost always be D11, D111, and NAIA options. At those levels, programs wait around to pick up the scraps. That is why you will sometimes find a very good player on a lower level team. There have also been guys who fall all the way through the cracks. At least Bryan will already have his BS Degree and will have the option of entering the working world with the rest of us.

Where ever Bryan goes and what ever he chooses to do, I wish him the best. He seems like a thoughtful man. :coffee:

Bryan still has not made a choice. VCU is out of the equation, and he has not eliminated us or LBSU. Both schools have openings. LBSU has recently counseled a guard to seek a pro career. Kind of late in the process to do that, but oh well.

This is the book on Bryan. He is a big combo guard, more suited to the wing than the point. He is a good shooter from range and has the handles to get to the rim. He has two years of eligibility left, as long as he can complete his studies to graduate this summer. It looks like he can do that.

What about LBSU: They have established guards in the program who have been rated higher than Bryan in the past. Does that mean that Bryan would not start? No, just that he would have heavy competition to start. Sources close to LBSU feel that Bryan would be the first guard off the bench and get a lot of time. Very similar to his expected role at GU.

What about WSU: Weber does not have an established point guard, but we would still expect some competition to start. Weber has a long list of established wing players, but nobody rated as highly as Bryan. Bryan's chances of starting at Weber would be better, but there would still be competition.

There could be other options we are not aware of.

And the band kid is still waiting and hoping that he has a shot with the hot cheerleader to prom. But time is running out and the flowers are wilting!
