I think he made a good choice, if he really had a choice. He will have an easier road to starting for LBSU than he would have had with us. He will have a chance to play point guard there and probably would have been asked to play on the wing for us.

I wish him the best and hope it all works out great for him.

I disagree on both of those counts. From what I have seen, I would think that he could compete nicely for a starters role and that he does have the potential to be all league. Of course, doing those things would be totally up to him and the work he wants to put in.

I have never said that he wouldn't start for us, or that he is a definite starter for LBSU. I'm just looking at the competition for minutes at both places. It appears that the competition for PT at point guard is a good bet for Bryan at LBSU. I also know that we were not thinking of him as a point guard. He may well have earned a starting position on the wing for us. However, we have a lot of returning talent at those positions. The competition will be great.

It is my belief that our coaches sensed his apprehension weeks ago and started vigorously recruiting 2018 prospects. VCU did the same about 8 weeks ago. I think it has been LBSU for the last 3 or 4 weeks. Of course, like Tal has said, he could have been holding out, hoping for a bigger program to come calling.

This is the 85th post in this thread....I told you what was going to happen in the 8th post....Long Beach is nice...Ogden may be the nuts for you all but for some of us who have seen a lot of the world, Ogden is just another sleepy town in Utah where there is very little to do unless you hunt, ski or hike....BLAM!!!! End of story!!!! (time to stir up the natives..lol)... BTW, Alberts played point in high school so I don't think he ever wanted to play the wing...

How's this for a stirred up native.

Just did a SoCal baseball stadium tour -- SD, 2 at LAD and 1 at LAA. Loved it for exactly 5 days. Unbelievable traffic at almost all times. Expensive beyond belief. Overcrowded beaches filled with litter and people who don't care that they are littering. Antsy, stress-out people everywhere you turn. Perhaps the worst drivers in the U.S. (does anyone know how to use a turn signal?). And please Sac, you've constantly whined on this board about the CA liberals who are so smart that they've almost taxed the place out of existence -- and lack the common sense to stop even though your state is so broke it threatens everyone's future who wants to live there. California, the American dream gone awry. Yep, to each his own.

Sure glad to come back to fly-over Utah and sleepy Odgen with it's hunting, skiing, hiking, biking and happy, smiling people. I do think I know what I seem to be missing.

BTW, I've traveled plenty with a wife who is a Flight Attendant. SoCal sucks by almost any measure you throw at it.

I, mostly, agree with Pirate. There are many places in California that I really like. However, anything within a 50 mile radius of Los Angelus sucks mightily. I don't even like driving through it and always make sure to have enough gas to get completely past it, when there is no alternative.

You should visit O Town. I'll buy you an adult beverage and show you around. If by 'sleepy place' you mean that there isn't daily gang killings and crack houses on every corner, then I guess I can accept that moniker. :nod:

And, Yes, I do believe that the opportunity to play point guard may have been a big factor. Although, as you have your sources, so do I. I know your sources and you know mine, enough said. Weber State moved on about three weeks ago. VCU moved on over 6 weeks ago. GU was planning to use him as the first guard off the bench and maybe start him in his senior year. Even though GU still has open spots, he had apparently burned his bridges with coach Few. Coach Few is the one who originally recommended him to us. He said that he is a great shooter, but not a ball handler enough to play point for them. He recommended him as a wing player.

I knew I could rouse the natives...actually, I don't like much about SoCal either but there are many more things for a 20 something male to do there than in Ogden...I was in Ogden for the BSC tourney back in 2015 (I think it was 2015)....when the sun went down, everyone and I mean everyone, headed for their abodes...no need to roll up the sidewalks...but I did see "street people" wandering around Ogden too...looked to be tweakers to me....I don't drink so that bribe will get you nowhere Olds...lol...oh, I almost forgot about the clouds coming from your coal fired power houses (didn't look so clean air friendly to me)....and until they figure out that taxing us to death is not the answer to their problems, I will continue to whine about the idiots running this state...they don't call him governor MoonBeam for nothing...his head is not in the clouds though...his head is firmly planted up his ***.....and I hate the ******* Dodgers....Giants man here since 1958, my first major league game at Seal Stadium in SF.....Glad to get you guys blood flowing, it's been a long time since basketball season....

...and you take some kind of joy in "stiring up the natives?" I'll restate how I see it: if a 20-year-old is more concerned with what he can or can't find do in a "sleepy town in Utah" as opposed to what's the best fit for him as a student-athlete, then Weber State isn't the best place for him, nor would the staff or fans care about losing that "talent." I'm not saying that isn't a consideration for some/many athletes but it is far from smart thinking. I guess the more talented player whose focus is being the best player they can be-- and I'd argue citizen too (e.g. Damian Lillard)-- can get it done anywhere, no matter how "bored" they may be.

I agree with many that most of SoCal (within so many miles of LA) is a crap hole and of no interest to me even though I've visited and vacationed there many times throughout my life. The Cardinals and Angels are my two favorite teams. I've seen the Angels play in Anaheim more than once. Last week I helped drive my oldest boy to Arlington, VA, so he'd have his car while attending law school at George Mason. We made a very log drive even longer so we could see as many of parts of the country we hadn't seen before as possible. This included major cities of Lincoln, St. Louis, KC, Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and D.C. We stayed a night in St. Louis and watched the #rallycat game vs KC. All these cities are awesome to visit and are alive with people, bars, restaurants, and many attractions. We also drove through utter cesspools of 3rd world type slums, poverty, and crime-ridden ghettos in each city. I have a list of new vacations I want to make throughout the Midwest and Great Lakes areas but not a single place over thousands of miles would I have any desire to live in. Oh, and the MLB game in St. Louis (and after game celebration and dining) runs circles around Anaheim. I think it's a stretch to think all 20-year-olds prefer one type of living to another.

Oh, and coal fired air pollution? Really? Of the 6 active coal plants in operation, only two are in Northern Utah and one of those is not where pollution would move towards the Wasatch Front (i.e. Provo-SLC-Ogden). Interestingly, the largest coal fired plant in the state is in Southern Utah and lo and behold, operated by and mostly for the City of Los Angeles. Typical: SoCal sucking resources and crapping on much of the Inter-mountain West. You gotta love all the people fleeing CA and running to places like "sleepy UT," then bitching and moaning that Utah is not like CA-- no sh1t, Sherlocks!

Yeah...Los Angeles takes a bunch of our water and wants even more so I understand your stance on the power plants in SoUtah...but where the wind blows the pollution doesn't mean it doesn't pollute, I would guess that the plant I saw was the Kennecott...I took a trip with my father rather late in his life but it was an extremely informational trip for me...long miles on the road with only one other person tends to open communications about things that don't generally come up in conversation...I wouldn't give that trip up for anything and I hope you and your son's trip had a similar effect on you...my father was 80 when we took that trip and he died when he was 93....very glad we had that opportunity....don't get me wrong, I hate most everything about SoCal and hate the politics of this state immensely...we are governed by the coast lines...the central valley does not think like the coastal masses so I guess I live in "fly-over California".....

Yes, I feel for you and other rational Californians. It's a fantastic state considering the resources, attractions, geography, but it's governed by the extreme libs and has been financially irresponsible for decades IMHO. I've always thought there should be a North and South CA but maybe a better division would be East and West? Long, tiring road trip but also enjoyable and interesting and I'm sure was filled with great memories for my boy and I-- thanks for the well wishes. It's funny you mention fly-over CA, an usher after the Cardinal game offered to snap a picture of us and we got to chit-chatting a bit. When we expressed how nice and fun visiting STL and the game was, he said come back again to our fly-over state when you can spend more time.

Politics aside and as much of an influence the city/state may have on the decision a student-athlete makes, I still say it's dumb to allow something that meaningless to make a difference. There have been a handful of WSU players (from TX and CA that I'm remembering) that put emphasis on selecting "sleepy Ogden" as a place where they could keep their noses clean as they focus on school and sport. It's a shame and a waste when an athletic talent's interests are misplaced on things that can't offer them a future.

I don't know why Alberts chose LBSU and I never will but to say it was the wrong choice because Ogden is a great place to live is not the truth either...I assume you don't know Alberts any better than I do, so there is no way that you or I know what kind of place Alberts likes...he may actually want to live on a deserted island in the middle of the Red Sea for all I know (don't think there are many D1 programs in the Red Sea though) so no one but Bryan can tell what the correct decision is....and BTW, I don't live in Sac either....Lodi for me....Now try to tell me how you have much better wine in Utah than they have in Lodi...lol....

I've been to Lodi. Nice area, good wine, some of the best in California. I have family in that area and in Sac. I could live there. You are right. None of us know what is in Bryan's heart or what he was thinking. I truly hope it all works out the way he wants it to. There is certainly nothing wrong with returning home to play for your friends and family, or to have a chance at the position you love. For us, it could actually be a blessing to have an open grant for a 2018 recruit. There are some diamonds out there and we may well end up with one of them. One door closes and another opens up.

I think the difference for Alberts was what position he would end up playing at either school. Regardless of what he thinks, he will still end up being a wing at LBSU, just their coach is okay with lying to players, Randy isn't. He knew, if he chose Weber, that he would be either a 2 or 3. I'm sure, of course it isn't fair of me to assume, but he was told he could play the PG at LBSU. He'll end up being a wing if he wants to play. From what I have read about him is that he has the potential of being a premier shooter, but isn't a very good ball handler. He is okay handling the rock, but not at the level a player needs to be to play the point. No matter, I think he will end up being a good get for the 49ers as either a SG or SF.

On another note, Randy and staff pretty much had passed on him over a month ago. The coaches were actively recruiting guys to sign in November. As for Alberts, he really wanted VCU and VCU really didn't want him.

Just for kicks, looked up Alberts today. He's having a fairly nice season for the 49ers. Good to see for him. Too bad, even though he scored 25 against the birds, LBSU ended up losing in Cedar.
